Chapter 16 Keep it up!
Katherine stared in disbelief at the man doing one-handed push-ups on top of her! Her mouth was covered by Alexander's other rough hand. He had just pulled the blanket over both of them, leaving only their heads exposed. They looked at each other, sometimes closer, sometimes farther, as if...
Katherine felt a bit flustered. Faced with such an intimate gesture, she couldn't bear it any longer and forcefully removed Alexander's hand. "Alexander, you..."
Alexander pressed down on her, leaning close to her ear, and whispered in a warning tone, "Katherine, didn't you say you were going to complete this three-month task with dedication? Now, this is something you need to cooperate with, so don't move!"
Katherine paused for a moment, then keenly noticed someone at the door. Sandra had pushed it open slightly and was observing in secret.
After understanding, Katherine asked in a low voice, "Do you need me to make a few sounds to go along with it?"
Alexander raised an eyebrow, asking, "Can you?"
Katherine's gaze was very confident!
Alexander mocked, "Do you want to give it a try?"
Katherine took a deep breath and began to say, "Honey, come on! One, two, three, four! One, two, three, four..."
Alexander's mocking expression vanished. The veins on his forehead bulged. He tightly covered her mouth again!
Katherine furrowed her brows and made a muffled sound. This kind of suppressed sound, instead, made people imagine more.
The gap in the door slowly closed until it shut completely.
Sandra revealed a satisfied smile and turned to leave.
Katherine once again removed Alexander's hand, angrily saying, "Your grandmother has left; you can get up now!"
Alexander lifted the blanket, quickly stood up, and put on the shirt he had just taken off.
Katherine sat up against the headboard, whistled, and said, "Alexander, at your age, you're very disciplined!"
Alexander's back stiffened. He was old? How old did she think he was?
"Katherine, if you keep looking at me like that, I'll think you're enchanted by my face."
Katherine swallowed and wiped her mouth, saying, "I simply like your abs. The rest of you are not my type!"
"Is that so?" Alexander walked to the head of the bed, reached out, and pinched Katherine's chin, asking, "What type of man do you like?"
Katherine was forced to look up. "I like younger gentlemen."
Alexander disdainfully chuckled, "Do they even count as men?"
Katherine sneered, "And what type do you like?"
Alexander remained silent.
Katherine raised an eyebrow and said, "Let me guess, you like sexy women, don't you?"
Alexander looked down at her, slightly leaning forward, and said, "Well, I certainly wouldn't like a woman who shouts 'come on' in bed like you!"
Then, he coldly released her chin and turned to the bathroom.
Katherine pursed her lips. With Sandra at home today, Alexander would surely stay in the room overnight.
Although she knew Alexander wasn't interested in her, she still felt awkward spending the night in the same room with him!
When Alexander came out of the bathroom, Katherine was already leaning on the headboard, asleep.
Her phone screen was still lit, displaying a game she had been playing.
Alexander looked at her and thought, 'She acts like a child herself, yet she wants a man younger than her? She really overestimates herself!'
Alexander narrowed his eyes, walked over, locked her phone, and tossed it onto the bedside table.
He didn't want to bother with her, but considering he had accidentally hurt Katherine today, he pulled the blanket over her.
Then, Alexander turned and walked towards the sofa.
The next day, when Katherine woke up, Alexander was no longer in the room.
She didn't have a job anymore and didn't need to get up early for work. So, she leisurely leaned against the headboard, scrolling through her phone.
Suddenly, her WhatsApp friend Frank sent an urgent message.
[Katherine, I found the paintings by the artist Lotus! They're at the Peak Auction House. Hurry up and come!]
Katherine immediately perked up and got out of bed to freshen up.
As she was about to leave the house, she ran into Sandra, who had just come out of the kitchen.
Katherine politely said, "Good morning, Madam Melville."
Sandra frowned unhappily. "You're Alex's wife now. Just call me Grandma."
Sandra's attitude towards her seemed different from yesterday.
Katherine cooperatively replied, "Grandma."
"Yes, that's better. It feels more intimate this way!"
Only then did Sandra smile and pull her to sit down. "Come, taste the breakfast I made for you!"
The servants of the Melville family were all shocked. Sandra personally cooking for the newlywed Katherine was unprecedented!
Katherine was in a hurry to leave, but she couldn't refuse Sandra's kindness, so she sat down to eat.
"Grandma, thank you. It's delicious."
Sandra smiled as she watched her eat. "If you like it, have some more!"
Sandra had added some ingredients to the meal to help with pregnancy. She was looking forward to having a great-grandchild!
At that moment, Fiona came downstairs, yawning. "Grandma, good morning!"
Sandra's expression suddenly turned serious. "Fiona, you're just in time. Come here and apologize to Katherine!"
Fiona was stunned and looked at Sandra in shock. "Grandma? You... Do you want me to apologize to her? But she's the one who bullied me!"
Sandra's face darkened as she said, "Fiona! There are not only servants in this house but also other old servants! They all saw it. I have investigated, and it was indeed you who threw dirty water at Katherine first, and she only fought back."
Katherine quietly ate her breakfast and glanced at Fiona, who looked guilty.
Sandra dragged Fiona in front of Katherine. "Apologize quickly! Don't disappoint me!"
Though unwilling, Fiona dared not defy Sandra. "I'm sorry..."
"It's okay."
Katherine smiled faintly, put down her empty plate, stood up, and said, "Grandma, I have something to attend to. I'll leave first."
Sandra nodded. "Go ahead, take care on the way."
After Katherine left, Fiona couldn't help but cry in grievance.
"Grandma! How can you take Katherine's side? You're not helping me anymore."
Sandra sternly reprimanded her, "I'll support whoever is right! And she is Katherine, so show her some respect from now on!"
Fiona was very angry.
"But my brother won't like her. He clearly wants to marry Scarlett."
Sandra's face darkened. "Shut up! Don't mention Scarlett again in the future!"
Fiona rarely saw Sandra so angry and could only close her mouth in displeasure.
It was at the Peak Auction House.
Frank Perez, the president of the Crescent Group, was reporting to Katherine.
"Katherine, it's Lotus's authentic work 'Late Autumn'! It's being auctioned here by a foreign merchant, starting at one million dollars!"
Lotus was the pseudonym of Katherine's biological mother, Claire Galatea.
Over the years, everyone had said that Claire was no longer in this world, but Katherine had not found any proof of her death.
With no other leads, Katherine wanted to explore Claire's whereabouts and could only start by investigating Claire's works scattered around the world.
Katherine asked, "Frank, how much money do we have available in our account?"
Frank replied, "We have about ten million dollars in liquid assets, and the rest of the money is tied up in several projects."
"That should be enough."
As Katherine was about to enter the auction house, she saw Alexander's car approaching.
She was curious why Alexander was here, too.
