Chapter 32 She stole something!
"Katherine, I'll go with you!" Teresa stood up, wanting to follow Katherine, but Sunny stretched his leg across the seat, intentionally blocking her way.
Teresa got angry and exclaimed, "Sunny, are you crazy? Move aside!"
Sunny smiled and said, "You want to pass through here? Then just jump over!"
Teresa rolled her eyes, cursing under her breath.
Alexander's gaze shifted from Katherine's figure, and he gave the two of them a cold glance, immediately silencing them.
In the restroom, Katherine came out of the toilet and started washing her hands. Sophie saw her and walked over, handing her recently taken-off coat, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Katherine, can you hold my coat for a moment? I just realized there's no place to temporarily hang clothes in the restroom."
Katherine nodded, took a tissue to dry her hands, and accepted the coat.
Soon after, Sophie also came out. She was washing her hands and looked at Katherine apologetically, saying, "Katherine, Sunny has always been careless. Please don't mind what he said at the table!"
Katherine smiled and asked, "What did he say?"
Sophie hesitated for a moment and smiled, "It's nothing important. As long as you don't mind, Katherine. I didn't expect you to have such a good temper!"
Katherine smiled. Unimportant people saying unimportant things shouldn't make her angry.
Sophie looked different today compared to her glamorous appearance at the bar yesterday. She was dressed more casually, with a beautiful and delicate makeup.
Katherine thought to herself, 'Sunny must see her as a sister. For Sophie's sake, Sunny tripped her yesterday, causing her to fall on Alexander.'
But if Sophie really liked Alexander and he liked her too, why didn't he just marry Sophie and take her to deal with the Melville family?
She couldn't understand.
Sophie had finished washing her hands and reached out to take a tissue to dry it, but she accidentally knocked over the tissue box, which fell into the trash can.
She sighed in embarrassment, "These tissues are unusable! Katherine, can you please help me hold the coat a little longer? My hands are still wet."
Katherine replied, "Sure, no problem."
When they returned to the table, Alexander was not there; only Teresa and Sunny were still arguing.
Sophie looked around and asked in confusion, "Sunny, Teresa, why are you two the only ones here? Where's Alex?"
Teresa explained, "It's too noisy here. He just went out to take a phone call."
"Oh, I see." Sophie looked out the window as if searching for Alexander's figure.
Katherine, on the other hand, sat back in her seat, indifferent, and continued eating the fondue.
After a while, everyone had almost finished eating, but Alexander still hadn't returned.
Teresa felt that it was too hot in the restaurant and suggested that they go outside to cool off and look for Alexander.
Everyone agreed with her proposal.
As they were about to leave, Sophie stood up, put on her coat, and reached into her pocket, only to exclaim in shock, "Where's my wristwatch?"
Teresa helped her search on the dining table and even checked under the table, saying, "There's no watch on the table or on the floor. Sophie, are you sure you didn't forget to bring it today?"
Sophie shook her head firmly and said, "No! I'm certain I brought it. I took it off and put it in my coat pocket because it was inconvenient while eating fondue. What should I do? If I lost something else, it would be fine, but that watch is very important to me. It was the last birthday gift my Grandfather gave me before he passed away."
Teresa sympathized with her and said, "Don't worry, let's search for it together."
Katherine had already premonied what was happening.
Sunny also joined the search, and suddenly, something came to his mind. He stared at Katherine with suspicion and questioned, "Hey! Weren't you the one who came back with Sophie's coat?"
Katherine nodded and asked, "Yes, what's the matter?"
Sunny's eyes revealed a hint of disdain as he said, "Then you better hand over Sophie's wristwatch right now!"
Katherine remained composed and said, "I didn't take her watch, so why should I hand it over?"
Sunny grabbed Katherine's arm, treating her like a thief, afraid that she would run away, and said, "You were the only one who touched Sophie's coat the whole time. If it wasn't you, then who else could it be?"
Katherine remained calm and explained, "When I went to the restroom, she asked me to hold her coat, so I did."
Sunny sarcastically snorted, "And then you took the valuable item from her pocket while you had the chance!"
Katherine remained unfazed and said, "I didn't."
Sunny clearly didn't believe her and became more aggressive, "If you really didn't take the watch, are you willing to let us search you?"
Teresa, displeased, pushed Sunny away and said, "You're being ridiculous! Katherine would never steal a watch! It's just a watch; if she liked it, Alexander would naturally buy it for her!"
Sunny sneered, "Then she should agree to be searched to prove her innocence!"
"You can't search her! Why should you? It's humiliating to be searched in public!" Teresa insisted, standing in front of Katherine to protect her.
Katherine had risked herself to save Teresa at the bar yesterday, and today, Teresa was determined to defend Katherine.
Sunny, annoyed by Teresa's interference, tried to pull her aside, and they ended up in a tug-of-war, causing Katherine to step back.
Something fell to the ground!
Sunny let go of Teresa and picked up the object that had dropped near Katherine's feet. He exclaimed in surprise, "What's this? You said you didn't take the watch, but here it is! You're a thief! A woman like you doesn't deserve to marry Alexander!"
Sophie looked at Katherine in disbelief and said, "Katherine, was it really you who took it?"
Katherine didn't know where the watch had fallen from on her body and furrowed her brow.
She looked at Sophie and said with a smile, "Whether it was me or you intentionally placed it on me, you should know better than anyone, right?"
Sophie looked innocent and confused, "Katherine, what are you talking about? Why would I do something like that on purpose?"
Sunny angrily said, "You have no shame! The watch clearly fell from you, and not only do you not admit it, but you also want to slander Sophie!"
The people in the restaurant gathered around, staring at Katherine and discussing.
"They were sitting together; how could she steal her friend's things?"
"I don't think that girl looks like a thief!"
"These days, you can't judge just by appearance!"
"What's going on?" a cold and stern voice sounded.
Alexander's appearance instantly silenced the scene.
His imposing presence made the crowd make way for him.
Teresa ran to Alexander and said, "You're back! Sunny insists that Katherine took Sophie's watch and wants to search her!"
Sunny, unafraid, confidently held up the evidence and said, "Alexander, I'm not accusing her falsely! Sophie's watch fell from Katherine, and everyone here saw it!"
Alexander lowered his gaze to the watch and then turned to look at Katherine, his expression unreadable, as he asked in a deep voice, "Did you take it?"
