Chapter 620 You don't Know What You're Allergic to
Sandra gave a nod and a grin. "Thanks a bunch. Just leave the dessert here; I'll dig in when I get back. Sophia, we got some family stuff today, so we won't keep you. Swing by another time, and I'll whip up something special for you."
Sophia beamed. "Mrs. Melville, seriously, no need to be so formal with me. By the way, are you heading out? I drove here, so how about I give you a lift?"
Sandra shook her head. "No need, the family driver’s on standby. They can take us, so it won't waste your time."
Sophia stayed chipper. "No trouble at all; I got nothing else going on anyway."
Fiona always had a bone to pick with Sophia, annoyed by her constant visits to chat with Sandra and Jackie.
Sandra got Sophia's little hints as a fellow woman. Jackie, on the flip side, liked Sophia, always singing praises about her bubbly personality.
Thinking about it made Fiona fume. She snapped, "Enough, quit wasting your breath! Sophia, I know you got a thing for Alex. He will never like you!"
Sophia shrugged, looking helpless. "Fiona, I just wanted to give you and Mrs. Melville a ride. Don't read too much into it; I really don't mean anything else."
Fiona rolled her eyes. "You know deep down if you got other intentions. Katherine's back today. No matter how much you try to butter up Alex and my grandparents, it's pointless."
Hearing this, Sophia was first shocked, then thrilled. "Really? Katherine's back? Where is she? Mrs. Melville, are you going to see Katherine now? Can I tag along? I've always wanted to meet her!"
Sandra frowned a bit. "Sophia, I know you mean well, but maybe another day. Katherine just got back, and she's probably wiped out and not in the mood to meet new people. I'll introduce you another time."
Sophia insisted, all excited. "Mrs. Melville, don't worry, I won't bug Katherine. I think she might have left because she got the wrong idea about me and Alex. It'd be better if I cleared things up with her personally."
Thinking it over, Sandra found it made sense. 'Katherine left without a word, and it might indeed have something to do with Sophia. Now that Alex and Katherine are talking about breaking up, if Sophia clears things up, they might patch things up on the spot.'
Fiona chimed in, "Grandma, if Sophia wants to go, let her. I think she should explain things to Katherine properly. And once she sees Katherine, she'll back off."
After some thought, Sandra nodded. "Alright then. Sophia, you can come with us."
Sophia grinned ear to ear. "Thanks, Mrs. Melville!"
After handing the dessert to the servant, Sophia grabbed her car keys and walked ahead, helping Sandra out the door as she thought, 'Katherine's back! I finally get to see what kind of person she is.'
At the restaurant, all the grub was finally on the table. The waiter, totally clueless about who ordered what, just plopped the dishes down in no particular order.
Katherine was just poking at her food, her mind a million miles away. The two dishes in front of her were Teresa's picks, not her faves, but whatever.
Teresa was just as spaced out, constantly checking her phone, stressing about why Fiona hadn't brought Sandra over yet.
Anthony slid a chicken wing onto her plate and asked, "What's on your mind?"
Teresa snapped back and forced a smile. "Nothing."
'If Fiona doesn't bring Grandma soon, Katherine's gonna finish eating and bail,' Teresa thought.
Katherine was almost done eating, too lazy to reach for the far-off food, feeling like this meal was dragging on forever.
To slow her down, Teresa casually added some salad to her plate. "Katherine, have some more salad; you need those vitamins."
Katherine pursed her lips. "Thanks."
Without much thought, she accepted Teresa's gesture, about to munch on the carrot Teresa had given her when another fork intercepted hers halfway.
Katherine was stunned and looked up. "What the heck are you doing?"
She was annoyed, thinking eating with him was already a pain, and now Alex was causing trouble.
Alex frowned, his tone icy. "You don't know you're allergic to carrots?"
Looking down at the carrot on her fork, Katherine remembered she was indeed allergic to carrots.
Her allergy report had shown she was allergic, but she wasn't usually that careful. Eating a little now and then didn't cause a big reaction.
'Did he remember my allergy report?' Thinking about it made Katherine's heart skip a beat, but she quickly warned herself not to overthink it. 'Even if he remembers, it's only because of the baby I'm carrying that he's so cautious.'
The more Alex cared about the baby, the more uneasy she felt. He was right; if he wanted to take the baby, he didn't have to use legal means.
Probably out of defiance and not wanting to be controlled, Katherine ignored his warning, dodged his fork, and stubbornly ate the carrot.
She knew that eating a little carrot wouldn't be a big deal. She didn't need his concern.
But the next second, she saw his face darken rapidly. Alex reached out, grabbed her chin, and forcibly pried her mouth open, trying to take out all the carrots.
Katherine felt super uncomfortable, coughing lightly. "Are you nuts?"
