Chapter 559 No One Will Think You're Mute If You Don't Speak
Jonathan leaned back with a lazy grin, "Nah, just shootin' the breeze, checkin' in on ya."
Alex drawled, "After all these years, you haven't changed a bit. Still got a thing for married women, huh?"
Katherine's jaw dropped as she stared at Jonathan, totally floored.
'Wait, what? Is Alex saying Jonathan's got a rep for messing with married chicks?' she wondered.
Jonathan didn't even flinch, just kept that warm smile, "C'mon, Alex. I ain't got those kinda bad habits. In those old stories, I was the one getting played."
Old stories? What stories? There's some juicy gossip here!
Katherine's curiosity was piqued. She raised an eyebrow, glancing between Jonathan and Alex, dying to know what went down.
Alex didn't even react to Jonathan's claim, just kept feeding Charles, like he couldn't be bothered to call him out.
Jonathan's eyes narrowed, and he threw out, "But this time, I'm not playin' around. I've got my eyes on Katherine!"
Katherine nearly spit out her drink, "Cough, cough!?"
Is Jonathan nuts?
Alex stayed chill, his cold eyes flicking over with disdain. "You got the guts to make a move on her?"
Jonathan laughed, "Why so worked up? Alex, you don't strike me as the insecure type."
Alex shot him a frosty look, then turned to Katherine, his eyes full of confidence, before glancing back at Jonathan, "You want her to fall for you? Good luck with that. Jonathan, don't push your luck."
Jonathan chuckled, "Oh? Did you three ever really see me as a friend?"
'You three?'
He must mean Alex, Hilton, and Issac.
Katherine's curiosity was off the charts, her eyes darting between them, waiting for more dirt.
But Alex stayed silent, not denying it.
So, they never really saw Jonathan as a friend, huh?
Jonathan didn't seem to care, just smirked, "Well, if you never saw me as a friend, guess it's fair game for me to go after Katherine."
Alex's eyes narrowed dangerously, a deadly vibe in the air.
Katherine could feel the tension and worried they might throw down any second.
Just then, Bernard's voice cut through the air, "What are you all yakking about instead of eating?"
Bernard hobbled in with his assistant Billy Parker, leaning on crutches.
Seeing Bernard so determined despite his injury, Katherine was a bit taken aback and frowned.
Bernard still showed up, huh?
Jonathan toned down his provocations and joked, "Bernard, it's a first seeing you like this after all these years!"
Bernard shot him a look, "Yeah, blew your mind, didn't it?"
Jonathan grinned and got up to help him. "Come on, Bernard, take a seat! Can't stand seeing you all banged up like this!"
Bernard didn't turn down Jonathan's help.
Katherine watched Jonathan's attitude towards Bernard, deep in thought.
It was just like Leander said—Jonathan and Bernard were tight, always joking around, unlike the tension between Jonathan and Alex.
And Alex? He was clearly closer to Hilton and Issac, always cracking jokes with them.
Katherine had always thought they were all just childhood buddies, never really noticing the different levels of closeness among the guys!
Before sitting down, Bernard's sharp eyes landed on Katherine, frowning sternly, "You came here alone; why didn't you tell me?"
Katherine shrugged, sipping her milk. "Didn't tell you, but youfigured it out anyway, right??"
Bernard's tone was serious, "You make me worry, you know that?"
After Alice and Scarlett had teamed up to hurt Katherine before, how could she dare come here alone to see Alice?
Even though he knew Katherine was here to talk about Charles's custody with Alice, he was still pissed she came alone, ignoring the danger.
If something happened again, it would be too late for regrets!
Katherine was not having Bernard's criticism, "Mr. Mitchell, are you confused? First, I didn't come here alone; I already told your grandparents! Second, I didn't tell you because it wasn't necessary. I worked at the Mitchell Group for a few days, but you fired me! Now, I have nothing to do with you, so I don't have to report my whereabouts to you, right?"
Bernard was momentarily speechless. He was looking at her from a brother's perspective, but she didn't see him as a brother.
In Katherine's heart, he probably wasn't even as good as a stranger.
Every time he thought of this, Bernard felt sad and ashamed.
He was angry but had no right to blame Katherine for not considering him a brother because he had been a jerk to her before!
Being rebuked by Katherine, Bernard's attitude softened, "Katherine, I'm not blaming you; I'm just worried about you..."
Katherine sneered, "No need! I don't remember having a brother like you! And please, Mr. Mitchell, keep your position straight in the future, and don't meddle in my affairs."
Jonathan had never seen the proud Bernard being put in his place like this and found it very amusing.
He had long noticed that Bernard treated Katherine differently and initially suspected that Bernard might also have feelings for Katherine.
But as far as he knew, Bernard didn't go for the petite and cute type like Katherine.
Later, through his observation, he guessed Katherine's identity, probably Bernard's long-lost sister!
In this world, only Bernard's sister could make Bernard so humbled and submissive.
"Bernard, I thought you came here specifically to see me and entertain me! But now it seems it has nothing to do with me!" Jonathan teased.
