Chapter 256 Aunt Victoria

Bernard paused and turned toward the voice. He saw Katherine, small yet determined, squeezing through the crowd and walking up to him.

Katherine asked, "Mr. Mitchell, you are looking for me?"

Tony, Scarlett, and Sophie were all stunned. What was happening? How did Katherine go in from outside?

Bernard scrutinized her closely.

"Where have you been?" he asked.

Katherine responded calmly, "Nowhere. I was waiting downstairs for you, Mr. Mitchell. Then I saw a crowd rushing upstairs, so I followed out of curiosity. And now you’re here, looking for me! Why’s that, Mr. Mitchell?"

Bernard remained silent.

How should he answer?

Should he say he thought she was fooling around with a man here?

Sophie didn't believe it. She stepped forward to challenge Katherine.

"Katherine, stop pretending. I saw you and Tony enter this room just now! You must have sneaked out, and now you're pretending to come in from outside!" Sophie rebutted.

Katherine looked at Sophie, utterly confused, as if she didn't understand a word she was saying. "What? Who's Tony?"

Sophie glared with her meticulously made-up eyes. "Stop pretending!"

Katherine furrowed her brows, looking both helpless and aggrieved.

"Miss Jones, I don't quarrel with you. Why do you always want to throw dirt on me? Is it because you didn't get to be Mr. Mitchell's plus one today, so you hold a grudge against me?" Katherine answered.

She then turned to her boss, Bernard, and continued, "Mr. Mitchell, next time, for non-work-related events, it might be better if I don't accompany you. It could create misunderstandings among your admirers and cause unnecessary trouble for both of us."
Sophie's face soured, and she rushed to explain, "Bernard, don't believe her lies. I'm telling the truth! I saw Katherine and Tony enter this room just now!"

Bernard looked at the noisy and troublesome Sophie, a trace of irritation flashing in his eyes.

How could he not know Sophie's feelings for him? But out of respect for her being Scarlett's best friend, he had always given her some face.

Over the years, Sophie had caused him quite a bit of trouble!

This current situation could be due to this woman's jealousy.

Katherine looked around at the people. "May I ask who Tony is?"

Tony, also confused, stood up. "That's me!"

Katherine smiled at him. "Hello, Tony. I don't know you. Do you know me?"

Tony was stunned for a moment. Realizing he couldn't admit to almost messing with Bernard's secretary, he quickly shook his head.

Tony responded, "No, I don't know you! Who are you? Have we met before?"

"I don’t think so." Katherine then looked at Sophie. "Miss Jones, you see, Mr. Steven and I clearly don't know each other."

Tony, shifting from guilty to justified, echoed confidently. "Exactly! We don't know each other! Bernard, I just had a bit to drink and felt tired. I wanted to take a bath and rest here. I had just started running the water when you knocked on the door, confusing me!"

Relieved, Bernard felt a bit guilty towards Katherine but showed no mercy to Tony.

He retorted, "This is not a place for you to take a bath and rest. Put on your clothes and go home. Do whatever you want at home!"
Tony, trying to please, smiled obsequiously. "Bernard, we're family. What's wrong with me taking a bath here? Don't be so harsh on me!"

Bernard's lips curled without warmth. "Are you going home yourself, or should I have someone send you?"

"I, I'll go myself! Right away!" Realizing Bernard was serious, Tony got scared. He quickly buttoned up his clothes, picked up his coat from the floor, and hurried out.

With the excitement over, the crowd at the door gradually dispersed.

Bernard glanced at Katherine and noticed she was only wearing an off-the-shoulder dress. He frowned and asked, "Ms. Galatea, where's the coat?"

Katherine looked at her empty shoulders and realized she was missing a coat. Damn!

She had accidentally dropped it while climbing from the bathroom window to the next room.

Ever since she got pregnant, she hadn't been as agile as before. This kind of mistake shouldn't have happened!

Given the situation, she could only make up a story. "Sorry, Mr. Mitchell. I accidentally spilled some drink on your coat and left it downstairs. But I'll definitely compensate you at the original price. You can have the company deduct it from my salary."

Bernard, feeling a bit embarrassed for almost wronging her, waved it off. "No need. It's just a coat."

"Thank you, Mr. Mitchell." Katherine breathed a sigh of relief.

Scarlett, standing nearby, bit her lip in frustration. That was a limited edition coat she had given Bernard!

Bernard didn't seem to care about the gift she had given him because of Katherine?

She had underestimated Katherine, not expecting her to win over even her brother, who was usually indifferent to women!
"What's going on? Why is everyone gathered here? What happened?"

A dignified and mature woman's voice came through, carrying authority.

Someone respectfully called, "Mrs. Mitchell!"

A second guy said, "Good evening, Mrs. Mitchell!"

A third guy followed. "Mrs. Mitchell."

A fourth guy said, "Mrs. Mitchell is here!"

A woman in her thirties walked in, wearing a navy blue mermaid evening gown, exuding elegance and fashion.

Scarlett ran up to her excitedly, calling sweetly, "Aunt!"

Sophie didn't miss the chance to flatter her future aunt. "Mrs. Mitchell, your dress looks amazing today. It makes you look so elegant and regal!"

The woman glanced at Sophie indifferently and ignored Scarlett's sweet smile. She then looked at her nephew Bernard with mature, discerning eyes. "Bernard, what's going on? Why is everyone gathered here?"

Bernard replied, "Aunt, it's nothing. Just a minor incident, but it's all resolved now."

Aunt Victoria had severe OCD and hated anyone disrupting her order, especially at her birthday party.

She asked, "Bernard, who did you come with today?"

As Victoria spoke, her gaze fixed on Katherine. "Who is she? I don't think I've seen her before."

Bernard introduced her calmly, "Aunt, she is my plus one."

Katherine politely looked at the elegantly dressed woman in her thirties, offering a slight nod. "Hello, Mrs. Mitchell. I'm Mr. Mitchell's plus one today and his new secretary at the company. My name is Katherine."

Victoria's sharp eyes appraised Katherine from head to toe.

She asked, "Is that dress you're wearing Comi's latest design this year—'Mist in the Woods'?"
