Chapter 607 Inspired by Love
Noticing Alex's mood shift, Sophia got even more nosy about Moon. "Moon, what's got you all hesitant?"
Katherine yanked off her black mask, showing her ''real face'' to everyone. It was a face full of wrinkles. Besides her bright eyes, everything else—the flat nose, thick lips, the whole deal—was pretty rough.
Sophia was taken aback by the scars on Katherine's face and suddenly got why she was all covered up.
The light in Alex's eyes dimmed instantly.
Katherine's eyes were icy as she said, "Well, there you go. Happy now?"
Sophia asked, feeling bad, "Moon, what happened to your face?"
Her face looked like it had been through hell, with wrinkled skin that screamed burn scars.
Katherine put her hat and mask back on and said, "A fire. Barely made it out alive, and this is what I got. That's why I didn't wanna show up at the Melville Group's ribbon-cutting. Not that I didn't respect them, but I didn't wanna freak anyone out."
This fake face was Jonathan's idea, the ugliest one he could pick, and it worked like a charm, fooling them all.
Sophia felt super guilty. "I'm sorry, I had no clue. I was kinda harsh earlier."
Katherine couldn't care less. She just wanted out. "It's cool. Can I go now?"
Sophia nodded. "Need a ride?"
Katherine waved it off. "Nah, my friend's picking me up."
Thinking she was in the clear, she turned to leave.
"Hold up." Alex's cold voice cut through the air.
Katherine froze, turning back reluctantly. "Mr. Melville, anything else?"
Alex's tone was all business, cold and detached. "Since you're here, let's grab a meal. I got some questions about the building that are hard to explain over email."
The reason Alex gave made it tough for Katherine, as a designer, to say no. He had questions, and she had to answer. So, she agreed to the meal grudgingly.
But what eased her mind a bit was that Alex didn't seem to notice anything off about her mask.
Sophia felt bad about her earlier attitude and wanted to make it up to Moon. She decided to join the meal, planning to comfort the disfigured Moon at the table. As a woman, she knew how much looks mattered and how crushing disfigurement could be.
They headed to a restaurant near the new Melville Group Tower.
Alex and Sophia sat on one side, with Katherine across from them.
When it was time to order, Alex handed the menu to Katherine like a true gentleman.
Katherine didn't refuse and purposely ordered stuff she didn't usually like to keep up the act.
After ordering, she handed the menu back. Alex took it, ordered for himself, and then passed it to Sophia.
Sophia shook her head. "Alex, you know what I like. Just order for me."
Alex didn't argue, handed the menu to the waiter, and ordered Sophia's usual.
Seeing Alex order so smoothly for Sophia, Katherine sneered, and she took a big gulp of water.
"Moon, want anything else? Don't be shy with Alex; order whatever you want," Sophia said casually, as if she were telling a guest not to be shy with her husband. But it wasn’t just like that—he really was her husband.
Katherine forced a light smile. "No, I should watch my weight."
Sophia chimed in, "Girls look cuter with a bit of roundness. Alex, don't you think Moon isn't overweight at all?"
Alex glanced at Katherine indifferently, not wanting to comment.
'Alex won't bother lying,' Katherine thought. 'His look says it all – I'm overweight and ugly, and he couldn't care less.'
"Mr. Melville, got any questions about my design for the Melville Group Tower? But now that it's done, any opinions won't change a thing," Katherine asked.
Alex said, "No changes needed, I'm very satisfied. Moon, what inspired your design?"
This question hit Katherine hard. She lowered her eyes and said, "Probably love."
'Such a grand statement! But it's true. When I was designing, all I thought about was Alex. I wanted to give him absolute safety, the best view, a comfy and convenient environment, and a unique design that matched his status and taste. I was already in love with him then, and the design was made with full love for him,' Katherine thought.
Sophia blinked and said, "Because of love, how romantic! Moon, do you have a lover?"
Katherine slightly pursed her lips. "I used to."
Sophia sensed there wasn't a happy ending and didn't push further.
Alex squinted. "You designed the Melville Group Tower inspired by your love?"
"Yes!" Katherine nodded. "Is Mr. Melville unhappy with that?"
Alex was silent for a long time, then shook his head lightly. "No, if you don't mind, can you explain your design concept in detail?"
"Of course." Katherine was all about her profession, explaining everything from the exterior to the interior of the Melville Group Tower.
Alex listened closely, occasionally sipping water.
Katherine was getting tired from talking, and the food arrived. She asked, "Mr. Melville, can I eat first? I'm starving. I'll continue after I eat."
Alex nodded. "Please, go ahead."
Katherine picked up her fork and started eating. She was really hungry but had to eat food she didn't like.
