Chapter 455 One-Sided Trust is Foolish
Katherine was almost done eating. She took a sip of water and said, "It's not a kid, it's Fiona."
Nathan looked surprised. "Katherine, Fiona's in college. I only tutor elementary and middle school kids."
"Just treat her like an elementary student."
"Uh... how? She's in college. It feels weird to tutor her on basic stuff."
Katherine said sincerely, "Our little sister's always struggled with school. Her foundation is weak. You know how her grades are at Janetrick University, right?"
Nathan stayed quiet. Fiona's grades were indeed terrible; failing classes was almost routine for her.
Katherine continued, "She doesn't need to be a genius to get by, but I want her to know some basics. Can you help tutor her?"
"...Sorry, Katherine, it's not convenient for me."
Nathan remembered rejecting Fiona's confession and wanted to avoid any awkwardness. He only helped her with flyers yesterday because Katherine asked.
Seeing his hesitation, Katherine added, "We can pay you more. Aren't you saving up for your startup?"
Nathan wasn't rich but wanted to be independent soon.
Talking about startup funds made Nathan pause. He did need the money.
After thinking it over, Nathan nodded. "Alright, Katherine, I'll do it. How much tutoring does she need?"
Katherine smiled, "Until you think she's good enough!"
Nathan thought for a moment. "Alright! I'll do my best."
With that settled, Katherine turned and instructed, "Anton, clear out a guest room, remove the bed, and set up a large desk. Make it a study room for Fiona."
Anton was surprised by Katherine's concern for Fiona's studies but quickly followed her instructions.
When Fiona came downstairs for fruit and drinks, she stopped in front of Katherine and said, "Hey! Katherine!"
Katherine snapped out of her daydream. "What?"
Fiona held it in for a long time before finally speaking., "Thank you!"
Katherine smiled, "Thank me for what?"
"You know what!" Fiona lifted her chin arrogantly, then went upstairs with the fruit and drinks for her tutoring session.
Watching Fiona run upstairs, Katherine daydreamed a bit, then told Anton she was going out and left alone.
Crescent Project was a construction site.
The Melville Group bought the land for a new office building. It used to be a rundown neighborhood. They demolished the old buildings and were now laying the foundation.
The foundation was crucial for the building's safety.
Katherine, wearing a hard hat, inspected the site.
Frank nervously followed her, offering support, afraid she might trip. "Katherine, it's so dusty here. You shouldn't be here!"
Katherine checked the foundation and told Frank, "This project is crucial. It affects Crescent's reputation. We can't cut any corners!"
Frank, usually playful, was serious about his work. "Don't worry, Katherine. I'll have someone here every day to keep an eye on things!"
Katherine trusted Frank but felt uneasy if she didn't check things herself.
Seeing her serious attitude, Frank joked, "You really care about Mr. Melville's future workplace!"
Katherine's eyes darkened. "I care about satisfying the client. I can redraw blueprints, but we can't rebuild the building!"
Frank smiled knowingly and handed her a water bottle. "Got it! I'll keep an eye on things. You don't need to come so often. You're pregnant! What kind of pregnant woman visits construction sites?"
Katherine was about to drink when she noticed a tall man in a suit with slicked-back hair approaching.
It was Alex!
Katherine instinctively hid behind a nearby truck.
Frank squatted down with her.
Alex stopped, sensing something. His sharp eyes focused on the truck.
"Do you have female workers on your crew?"
The project manager was puzzled. "Female workers? No! This job is too strenuous and dirty for women."
Alex squinted but then looked away and continued inspecting the site.
Frank peeked at Alex's receding figure. "Katherine, why are you hiding? That's your husband. Are you afraid of him seeing you?"
Katherine leaned against the truck. "He only knows I have shares in Crescent. He doesn't know my true role or that I'm the designer Moon for the Melville Group Tower."
Frank was puzzled. "Didn't you say trust and honesty are important in a relationship?"
Katherine took a big gulp of water. "Trust and honesty are mutual; but one-sided trust and honesty are foolish."
Frank sensed something was wrong. "Are you having issues with Mr. Melville?"
Katherine's expression was indifferent. "No."
"Then why..."
Frank's phone rang.
"Katherine, hold on. I need to take this call!" Frank stepped away. "I'm at the construction site. What's up? I'm not hungry. You eat without me. Just leave it on my desk; I'll eat it when I get back. Okay, keep up the good work."
After hanging up, Frank turned back. "Katherine, where were we?"
Katherine asked, "Who was that?"
Frank shrugged. "A junior employee who wants to mess around with me. She's been bringing me food lately, and I've gained weight. My abs are turning into one big lump!"
Katherine frowned. "Don't get involved with her."
Frank's eyes flashed. "Hmm? Katherine, do you know her?"
