Chapter 282 Katherine, Don't Play Tricks
Katherine fired off a barrage of questions at Bobby. "When did I tell you to get rid of the memory card? How did I contact you? Which bank did I use to transfer the money? And how much did I send?"
Bobby looked like a deer caught in headlights. Scarlett's recent cough seemed to startle him, causing him to change his story just as he was about to reveal the truth. Did Scarlett have some leverage over him?
Katherine thought, 'Lies concocted on the spot are full of holes and easy to dismantle.'
Bobby's face turned guilty again as he scrambled to answer. "It was just half an hour ago. You contacted me through social media, asked me to do it, and transferred $10,000 to me."
Katherine raised an eyebrow, not a trace of guilt on her face. "Oh, social media? Then where's our chat history? Show it to us!"
Bobby swallowed nervously. "There is no chat history. You were very cautious. After contacting me, you told me to delete all your contact information and chat history!"
Katherine smirked. "Really? We never met before. When did we exchange social media contacts? How come I don't know about it?"
"It was... when you were leaving, you specifically found me and asked for my social media account. How can you pretend not to know?" Bobby stammered.
Katherine let out a cold laugh. "You had already run off when I was leaving. Where would I find you to ask for your contact info? Fine. Even if what you said is true—that I asked for your contact info, gave you money, and asked you to destroy the evidence—then why did you initially accuse me of snatching the kettle from you and burning that child? If you took my money to help me, shouldn't you be speaking well of me and making false statements? Bobby, don't you think your statements are contradictory and illogical?"
Bobby was sweating bullets under Katherine's calm questioning. Her logic was sharper, and he was on the verge of cracking.
"It was you... you told me to act that way, saying it would seem more realistic," he excused.
Katherine couldn't help but laugh. "Realistic? That's bullshit! So, to achieve some effect, you took my money and then snitched on me?"
Scarlett cursed Bobby in her heart, thinking he couldn't even lie without leaving holes. Now, it was up to her to smooth things over and add fuel to the fire.
Scarlett put on a look of indignation, her eyes red. She tugged on Bernard's arm as if she wanted to defend the weak. "Bernard, is Katherine being so aggressive that she is forcing the waiter to recant? How can she still try to push the blame onto an innocent worker? I think this is just too much bullying!"
Bernard looked down at the tearful Scarlett, frowned, and then looked at Katherine with extreme impatience.
Billy stepped forward and reported, "Mr. Mitchell, we checked Bobby's account, and indeed, there was a $10,000 transfer to his card half an hour ago."
Bernard's eyes were filled with doubt, almost like he was sentencing Katherine to death.
"Katherine, enough!" he shouted. "Stop playing games. No one here believes you anymore!"
Katherine remained calm. "Mr. Mitchell, don't you think all the accusations this waiter has made against me are illogical?"
Bernard's face was stern. "Then tell me, why would a waiter who had never met you before want to frame you?"
Katherine sneered, disgusted by Bernard's loss of reason. "Mr. Mitchell, don't you think it's possible that this waiter injured your nephew and, fearing responsibility, wanted to frame me? He also took the memory card from the camera to destroy evidence of his actions. The money transferred to his account didn't have a name. Is it possible that someone else transferred it to him?"
As she said the last sentence, Katherine's eyes coldly and unmistakably fell on Scarlett—the implication was clear.
Scarlett acted very aggrieved, uneasily leaning into Bernard's arms. "Bernard, why is Katherine looking at me like that? I didn't provoke her."
Bernard, afraid that Katherine's aggressive demeanor would scare his sister, wrapped his arm around Scarlett and gently patted her shoulder to comfort her. His brows furrowed as he glared at Katherine.
"Katherine, if you used your cunning and intelligence for the right purposes, I believe you would be an exceptional talent! But now, you have no chance. You can either turn yourself in, or I will call the police," Bernard reprimanded.
"Expecting you to see the situation clearly? Hopeless. I choose to prove my innocence!" Katherine rolled her eyes, fed up with Bernard's attitude.
She walked straight up, unceremoniously pushing aside Bernard and Scarlett, and swaggered into the restaurant's counter area. She waved to the engineer still sitting in front of the computer. "Hey, could you move aside? I need to check something myself!"
The computer engineer felt pressured by this assertive woman but didn't dare let her tamper with the surveillance system. He looked up at his boss with a questioning gaze.
Bernard, having just been pushed aside, was visibly displeased. After considering for a moment, he nodded to his subordinate, signaling him to let her do it. "Let's see what else she can do."
With Bernard's permission, the computer engineer stood up and stepped aside for Katherine.
Katherine plopped down at the computer counter and began to access the surveillance footage herself.
The memory card from the Harmony Garden Retreat's private room had been taken, but the other angles' surveillance in the restaurant was still intact.
Since direct evidence was unavailable, she decided to approach it from another angle.
Scarlett and the Bobby's consistent stories suggested they had interacted, likely when Scarlett went to the restroom and spoke with Bobby.
As long as she could pull up that footage, she could prove that it was Scarlett, not her, who conspired with Bobby!
