Chapter 453 He Is Her Nightmare

Before, she thought he was just unclear about his feelings, but now she knew—he really didn't want to marry her.

Alex's wedding was super low-key, just a few tables with close family, more for show. Everyone in the Melville family knew he did it to keep Jackie happy; he didn't take it seriously.

With the Melville family's wealth and status, it should've been a big deal.

So, many outsiders didn't even know Mr. Melville was married.

It seemed Alex didn't want people to know he was married.

Thinking about it, Katherine shrugged, "I was joking. Who wants to marry you anyway!"

Alex frowned, "If not me, then who?"

"None of your business! I'll marry whoever I want, and I won't tell you!"

Katherine joked and got into the car.

The driver had been following them slowly.

Once she got in, Alex naturally followed.

He pulled down the partition, then, like he was starved, pulled Katherine into his arms, cupped her face, and kissed her passionately.

He liked to pinch her chin, prying her lips open bit by bit, slowly invading, exploring...

But today, she kept her mouth shut, not letting him kiss her.

Katherine could feel Alex's affection and desire for her were real.

But he just didn't want to marry her!

Alex, growing impatient, panted softly, "Be good, open your mouth."

Katherine frowned and pushed him away, "Alex, I'm feeling carsick, stop it."

Seeing her pale face, Alex, though unsatisfied, kissed her cheek and stopped.

Katherine had eaten too much and felt uncomfortable. As soon as they got back to Melville Manor, she rushed to the bathroom to throw up.

It was unclear if it was morning sickness or just carsickness.

Since she wasn't feeling well, Alex didn't bother her that night, just held her tightly as they slept.

Even when they can't do anything, men's hands are still restless.

Alex's hand on her chest became more unruly, and Katherine couldn't stand it, warning him, "Alex!"

"Call me Honey," he murmured, nuzzling her neck.

Katherine didn't comply. He didn't even want to marry her, and he still had the nerve to ask her to call him Honey?

She wasn't that forgiving; she still minded it!

Maybe all men are like this—when they can't have you, they're deeply affectionate; when they first get you, they're infatuated; but once they have you completely, they don't cherish you anymore.

Not wanting to marry was leaving himself an out. When he got tired of her, it would be easier to part ways, right?

Recently, Katherine had learned a lot about her mother's younger years and found out Edwin had also pursued her mother passionately. Before and shortly after their marriage, they were an enviable couple.

But what happened? Not long after, Edwin started fooling around, staying out all night, and even had a daughter, Scarlett, outside!

What did it matter that Edwin had chased his wife so hard?

He still didn't cherish her once he had her!

Katherine didn't think she was special or lucky enough to find a man who'd be faithful forever.

She just felt Alex was different. He made her feel secure, maybe a bit more long-lasting, and the rest was up to time—wherever it led.

But Alex was different. He seemed to get tired of things even faster, and being older, he was more cunning. He had left himself an out from the start, and she couldn't outsmart him!

Late at night, Katherine lay with her back to Alex, pretending to sleep. No matter how he nudged or teased her, she didn't turn to face him.

Eventually, her pretending turned into real sleep...

She had a disturbing dream.

She dreamt of being pushed to the bottom of a dry well as a child. She was small and weak, couldn't climb up, and no one heard her cries. She was terrified.

She looked up at the well's opening, hoping someone would find her and save her...

Then, she saw someone—it was Alex!

Alex's face appeared at the well's opening, looking down at her.

She was overjoyed, thinking she was saved, reaching out for him to pull her up, but he just looked at her coldly, not bending down or reaching out.

She was puzzled, loudly calling for help, but Alex turned around and walked away expressionlessly. Then, someone moved a big stone to seal the well's opening.

Everything went dark. No matter how she shouted or called, no one came. The air grew thinner, and she couldn't breathe.

She woke up with a start!

Her eyes snapped open, her body covered in cold sweat...

She found that the reason she couldn't breathe in her dream was because Alex was pressing down on her, kissing her while she slept!

Because of that dream, Katherine was in a bad mood. Unable to push him away, she punched him hard!

She hit him with real force, not playfully.

He was genuinely hurt, groaning as he released her, still panting softly, "So much force, trying to murder your husband?"

Hearing the word "husband," Katherine felt even more mocked. Whose husband was he? He wasn't even listed as her spouse, yet he dared to call himself her husband! Ugh!

Katherine weakly said, "I told you I didn't want to today, why did you still sneak attack me while I was sleeping!"

In the moonlight streaming through the window, Alex's eyes were still disoriented, clearly showing he was highly aroused.

Katherine thought, ‘if I hadn't woken up from that nightmare, he would have definitely taken advantage of me while I slept! ’

Alex's voice was still tinged with a uniquely sexy hoarseness, "You kept calling my name just now; it's hard not to think you were inviting me."

Katherine sat up, turned on the bedside lamp, and took a deep breath.

In the dim light, Alex noticed her sweat-drenched face and immediately became more serious, softly asking, "What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

Katherine responded with a faint "Yes."

He moved closer, wrapping her in his arms, gently stroking her back, "It's okay, it was just a dream! I'm here!"

Katherine didn't feel comforted, her eyes cold, speaking indifferently, "I just dreamt of you!"

Alex paused, "I was in your nightmare?"

She didn't push him away, nor did she lean into him as she used to, frowning, "Mm!"

Alex suddenly understood why she had been calling his name, sighing helplessly, "What kind of dream? Did I bully you in the nightmare?"

Katherine replied irritably, "Not only in the dream, but I also woke up to find you really bullying me!"
