Chapter 291 Miss Mitchell, Are You Tired?

Bernard took the document from Katherine and shot a cold look at his younger brother. "Do your homework."

Sunny, feeling the sting of his brother's scolding, kept his head down and focused on his assignments, not daring to say a word.

Bernard flipped through Katherine's sales proposal, his face freezing for a moment. Then he squinted, clearly impressed by her business acumen.

After a moment, he raised an eyebrow and eyed her suspiciously. "Did you do this yourself?"

Katherine nodded. "Yes, Mr. Mitchell. After checking out the market with Mr. Mostow yesterday, I had some ideas and put together this proposal for you. If it's good, I'll proceed with it."

Bernard sneered, giving her a once-over. "Nice work, but pointless!"

Katherine frowned. "Why?"

Bernard closed the document and tossed it aside. "The food sector is a tiny part of the company. We're not looking to make a name for ourselves with food, and we don't need to over-market to boost sales."

Katherine glanced at the discarded document but smiled, undeterred. "Mr. Mitchell, you gave me the sales manager position but limited my authority. I can't touch the bigger sectors. But I still need to do my job well. I don't want to just sit here and collect a paycheck, so I made this proposal. It's up to you whether to use it."

She continued, "Also, I heard the food sector is special to you because your sister loves the snacks we make. That's why the Mitchell Group has kept it going for so long. If it grows and more people love it, your sister might feel recognized and connected, making her happy. Just my two cents."

Bernard squinted at her, his eyes showing an odd expression.

Katherine interpreted it as dissatisfaction with her, her existence, and the fact that she was still alive.

Yesterday, Katherine survived Bernard's people. Seeing her now must be infuriating for him!

After a long silence, Bernard finally spoke, "Alright, I'll consider your proposal. You can leave now."

"Okay." Katherine said no more and turned to leave.

Sunny looked up and sneaked a glance at Katherine's back, frowning in confusion. What was going on? How did she end up working at Bernard's company?

As Katherine left the CEO's office, she ran into Scarlett, who had come to see her brother.

Scarlett was carrying what looked like food. She was standing at the office door, chatting and smiling with the new secretary.

Unlike her attitude towards Katherine, the secretary was very fawning and attentive to Scarlett, constantly complimenting her appearance and clothes, and being polite and respectful.

When Katherine stepped out, the slight noise made both of them look over.

Seeing her, their expressions turned sour—one filled with disdain, the other with hostility.

Katherine had no intention of engaging and walked past them.

Scarlett's soft, gentle voice called out, "Katherine!"

Katherine stopped and turned slightly. "Miss Mitchell, do you need something again?"

The word "again" dripped with sarcasm, hinting at all their past run-ins and subtly warning her not to start more trouble.

Scarlett walked up, smiling innocently, and asked, "Katherine, why didn't you acknowledge me when you saw me?"

After what happened yesterday, what was there left to say between them?

Katherine curled her lips. "I saw you chatting with Mr. Mitchell's secretary and didn't want to interrupt."

"Oh, I see!" Scarlett's innocent smile deepened. She stepped closer, stood on tiptoe, and whispered in Katherine's ear, in a voice only she could hear, "Katherine, you may have won yesterday! But don't get too cocky; the real show is yet to come! Do you think you can drive a wedge between Bernard and me? You're gravely mistaken!

Bernard adores me. No matter what I do wrong, he will always forgive me and love me unconditionally! And someone like you, an unloved illegitimate child, will never understand the happiness I have!"

Scarlett's words were spoken with a smile, but the content was far from kind, creating an eerie feeling.

However, Katherine didn't get angry; instead, she smiled, her lips slightly curved. "I can tell that Mr. Mitchell really dotes on you."

Scarlett, feeling proud and sweet, raised her eyebrows and smiled brightly. "I'm glad you see that! So, you should give up trying to use Bernard against me; it won't work!"

Katherine maintained her smile. "Miss Mitchell, aren't you tired? Every day, you put on a fake personality and image, use your family and friends to create trouble, and scheme against any woman who might threaten your position, always on edge. Honestly, are you really that happy? Do you feel secure?

Katherine added, "In my view, someone who is truly content and secure wouldn't go to such lengths to protect what they already have. I guess you feel very anxious and threatened inside. You know that everything you have is fragile, that the love and acceptance around you are earned through your pretense and flattery. You lack the confidence to believe that you could still have your current status and affection if you were to reveal your true self. So, you're more afraid of losing it than anyone else, right?"

Scarlett's smile froze, and she couldn't speak for a long time.

Katherine raised her hand and lightly patted her shoulder. "Miss Mitchell, instead of targeting me, why not do something good and be nice to Charles?"

With that, she walked past Scarlett and returned to her office.

Scarlett's expression almost faltered. Katherine's words had hit her right in her heart, exposing her deepest fears!
