Chapter 480 Even Good Friends Have Different Levels of Closeness
Alex dried his hair with a towel, walked over, and sat on the bed. He glanced at her phone and saw Jonathan's message.
Alex's face darkened. "You still talk to Jonathan?"
Katherine looked up. "Not really. He sends messages, but I don't reply."
Alex's tone tightened. "When did you two become friends?"
Katherine didn't hide it. "After our wedding shoot at Moonlight Manor. He sent a friend request. I ignored it, but he kept trying, so I accepted."
Alex leaned in, ruffling her hair. "When I'm not around, ignore him."
Katherine blinked. "I didn't want to talk to him anyway! But he's your friend. Shouldn't I be polite?"
Alex stared at her. "You don't have to be polite because of me. Respond if you want. It's your choice."
Katherine squinted. "So, you don't like Jonathan? I thought you two grew up together?"
"Even childhood friends can have varying degrees of closeness."
"So, you're closer to Hilton and Issac?"
Alex frowned slightly. "The night's short. Why worry about them now? Let's sleep."
He got under the blanket, bringing the fresh scent of his body wash.
Katherine blushed, sensing something was off. "You've showered, but I haven't! I need to shower!"
He pulled her close. "Don't shower. Just let me hold you."
Katherine looked up at his jawline, frowning. "I can't sleep without showering!"
Alex nudged her hair. "You'll sleep if I hold you. Don't worry, I won't bother you tonight. Sleep well."
"Alex..."
"Be good."
Katherine was helpless, held so tightly she couldn't move.
Maybe it was his scent, but she fell asleep before sneaking out to shower.
When Katherine woke up, she was surprised to see Alex still beside her.
Usually, he'd be at the company by now.
Today, she opened her eyes to find Alex lying on his side, smirking at her. Who knew how long he'd been watching?
Katherine felt uncomfortable and frowned. "Why haven't you gone to work? Why are you staring at me?"
Alex said, "Not much work today. I can leave after breakfast with you."
Given yesterday's Melville Group stock drop, Alex was still calm and didn't rush to reassure shareholders?
Katherine tugged at the corner of her mouth. "You don't have to stare at me like that."
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Is it a crime to look at my own wife?"
Katherine's cheeks heated up at the word "honey," and she quickly sat up. "I didn't shower last night. I need to shower first!"
Watching her dash into the bathroom and lock the door, Alex chuckled and got up to change his clothes.
When Katherine finished her shower and came out, he went in to freshen up. Then they headed downstairs for breakfast.
But the extra person in the dining room darkened Alex's relaxed expression.
Sandra saw them and smiled. "Come have breakfast. I made oatmeal porridge today! Katherine, see if you like it."
Katherine smiled sweetly. "Thank you, Grandma."
She then politely greeted Jackie, who was at the head of the table. "Good morning, Grandpa."
Jackie, still upset about yesterday, grunted in response.
Katherine didn't mind and was about to sit when she noticed Alex hadn't followed her.
She turned back and saw Alex glaring at Nathan, who was sitting next to Fiona.
Sandra noticed Alex's unusual behavior and introduced Nathan. "This is Fiona's tutor. He came early today, so I invited him for breakfast."
Nathan stood up politely and smiled at Katherine. "Good morning, Katherine!"
Katherine smiled back. "Good morning."
Nathan then met Alex's scrutinizing gaze, and tension filled the air.
Nathan hesitated before saying, "Good morning, Uncle Alex."
That word "Uncle" made Alex's face darken completely!
The tension was palpable.
Sandra didn't understand Alex's harsh attitude towards the tutor.
Nathan's greeting to Katherine made Sandra realize. "Katherine, you know Fiona's tutor?"
Katherine nodded. "Nathan is a very outstanding student from my university."
Jackie snorted. "University, huh! Who knows if it was really her own university!"
Sandra glared at Jackie. "Can't you keep your mouth shut while eating?"
Nathan, though an outsider, understood Jackie's hint. He saw the trending topics last night and messaged Katherine a lot, but she didn't reply.
Worried, he came early to check on her.
Seeing Katherine and Alex together, he thought she wasn't affected and felt relieved.
But hearing Jackie's sarcastic remarks and thinking about the Melville Group's stock drop, he worried about Katherine's position in the family.
Despite online rumors questioning Katherine's academic credentials, he knew her excellence was genuine. He had admired her from afar during university and had seen it all!
So, he couldn't help but defend her. "The online rumors are false. Katherine got into Janetrick University on her own merits. I can vouch for her!"
