Chapter 703 The Son-in-Law Arrives
Bernard rarely showed any admiration for Sunny's determination. "Alright, get ready. Once Katherine has the baby, I'll arrange for you to go abroad."
"Thanks!" Sunny nodded and headed upstairs, full of determination and energy.
Watching her go, Bernard finally felt like he had changed.
In the room, Katherine gently patted Charles to sleep. She kept glancing at her phone, knowing it was impossible for Alex to arrive so soon, but she couldn't help checking.
Eventually, she fell asleep herself.
When she woke up the next morning, there were still no messages on her phone.
She spent the whole day distracted.
It wasn't until evening that she finally got a call from Alex, who was overseas.
"Katherine, I just got off the plane. Did you eat well today?"
Hearing Alex's voice, Katherine felt a bit relieved.
"I had all three meals. How about you?"
It sounded like Alex was walking as he replied, "Yeah, I had the airplane meal."
Airplane food was pretty bad, even in first class!
Despite waiting all day for the call, Katherine found herself with nothing to say.
Alex advised her, "Alright, make sure you eat well these next few days. I have to get busy now, but I'll bring you a gift when I return."
This call was mainly to let her know he was safe; he had other matters to attend to, despite his reluctance.
Seeing that Alex seemed about to hang up, Katherine hurriedly said, "Wait!"
Alex's tone lifted slightly, "Hmm? What's up? Do you have more to say?"
Katherine cleared her throat, "Go ahead and do what you need to do, just don't hang up."
"Don't hang up?" Alex's tone carried a hint of amusement, saying, "Worried about me, huh?"
Katherine replied, "I just want to listen and make sure you're not up to no good over there! Of course, if you have something to hide and don't want me to hear, you can hang up. I won't call back!"
Alex chuckled, "Do you think I dare hang up now? Alright, I won't hang up, as long as you don't find me annoying."
Katherine pretended to be arrogant, "I'll reluctantly not find you annoying! So, are you heading straight to Sophia's place from the airport?"
Alex exited the airport terminal, and Leander stepped forward to open the car door for him. Alex bent down to get into the car that had come to pick him up in Markovia, while warmly replying on the phone, "Yeah, their place is quite far from the airport, about a three-hour drive."
Katherine suggested, "Then you can sleep for a bit in the car."
Alex opened his laptop to check the emails he had just received and said, "No need, I already slept on the plane."
Katherine smirked. So, they would have to chat for the entire three hours. She had no idea what to talk about.
So, Katherine grabbed a music player, "Alex, pick a song!"
Alex was somewhat surprised, "So nice? Are you going to sing for me?"
Katherine laughed awkwardly, "No, I'm just gonna play a song for you, not sing! My singing isn't free; it's pretty pricey!"
Alex raised an eyebrow, "How much per song? Let's see if I can afford it."
Katherine scoffed, "It's priceless now, and even if it had a price, you couldn't afford it! If you want to hear me sing, wait until you come back and request it in person! Cash on delivery!"
Alex was genuinely amused, "You're such a greedy person!"
Katherine was unfazed, "Hurry up, what song do you want to hear? I'll play it for you so that when we run out of things to talk about, it won't be too awkward or quiet."
Alex didn't find it awkward or quiet; even hearing her shallow breaths was a form of comfort for him.
He said, "Echoes of the Heart."
Katherine searched for 'Echoes of the Heart' on the music player.
She found the song he mentioned and clicked play. The music started.
After listening for a bit, Katherine suddenly felt emotional. "I never felt there was a big generation gap between us before, but now listening to this song, I really feel it! We don't even listen to songs from the same era."
Alex's long fingers paused on the keyboard, somewhat bothered by this, "Are you saying I'm old?"
Katherine sighed, "Even if I mind, there's nothing I can do. The fact is, you're older than me, and you can't turn back time."
Alex was a bit displeased.
He didn't mind the age, but he was very sensitive about being much older than Katherine.
Seeing that Alex wasn't speaking, Katherine giggled, "Why aren't you talking? Are you mad?"
Alex said, "No."
Katherine continued, "The song you picked is a bit old, but it's quite nice, especially the lyrics!"
The lyrics of "Echoes of the Heart" were indeed well-written.
Alex asked, "What kind of music do you like? Play something for me."
"The music I like, you probably won't enjoy!"
"Not necessarily, play it for me."
Then, Katherine played a deafening rap song for him.
As expected, he couldn't appreciate this kind of music.
And so, the two of them shared music and chatted, and the three hours passed quickly.
The car arrived at the Coleman mansion.
Alex told Katherine, "I've arrived." He then put the still-connected phone in his pocket and got out of the car.
Outside, Brent's people were already waiting to welcome him.
"Mr. Melville, Mr. Coleman specifically arranged for us to wait for you here."
Alex, exuding an air of authority, nodded slightly, "Take me to see Mr. Coleman."
"Yes, Mr. Melville, please follow me."
The person bowed slightly, making a very polite gesture.
Alex, with Leander, followed the person into Brent's estate.
Finally, he arrived at a large gym where he saw Brent exercising.
Despite his age, Brent maintained a good physique and was very disciplined.
The guide stepped forward and reported, "Mr. Coleman, Mr. Melville is here."
Brent put down the barbell and looked over at Alex, smiling, "Oh, my son-in-law is here!"
