Chapter 498 Let's Start Over

At the press conference, a reporter stood up and asked, "Since both of you got perfect scores, doesn't that make the test pointless? It still doesn't show who got into Janetrick University back then! Ladies, any comments?"

Fern raised her hand, signaling she had something to say.

The host handed her the microphone.

Fern, with a slight accent, said, "I think I won because I finished faster, and I haven't studied in years. I answered from memory! Katherine's been at a top uni but still took longer!"

The media agreed, thinking Fern had more of a top student's attitude and confidence

"Fern's right. Top students usually finish first!"

"Yeah, she's more impressive!"

"Considering she hasn't studied in years and still got a perfect score! I can barely remember high school stuff!"

"Same here! I'd probably fail a high school test now!"

"Seems clear Fern got into Janetrick University back then!"

"Katherine, any comments?"

A reporter asked Katherine, who was asleep at her desk.

She had woken up early and, being pregnant, was more prone to sleepiness. She dozed off after finishing her test.

The reporter frowned. "What's with Katherine's attitude? Has she just given up on defending herself?"

The host, feeling awkward, knocked on Katherine's desk. "Katherine? Please wake up!"

Katherine woke up, looking drowsy. "What's going on?"

The host forced a smile. "Katherine, this isn't the time to sleep! A reporter asked you a question."

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Oh, what did they ask?"

She had really fallen asleep and missed it.

Everyone was a bit annoyed with her attitude.

The host repeated the question. "The reporter asked if you have anything to say, given both of you got perfect scores."

Katherine squinted. "We both got perfect scores?"

She glanced at Fern, who looked confident, and Camlia in the audience, who seemed pleased.

The host said, "Yes, you both got perfect scores. You might have missed my announcement because you were asleep."

Katherine yawned and casually said, "I don't believe it."

The media looked at her with questioning eyes.

"She said she doesn't believe it? Does she not believe she got a perfect score, or does she not believe Fern did?"

"Obviously, she doesn't believe Fern got a perfect score! She thinks Fern hasn't studied in years and couldn't do it. But Fern proved she's a true top student, even after all this time!"

"Yeah, Katherine's just being arrogant!"

The audience buzzed with chatter, and the host turned to Katherine. "Katherine, after you both finished, the teachers graded the tests on the spot. The results were displayed publicly, and no one objected. Fern mentioned she finished first and thinks that gives her an edge. Any thoughts?"

Katherine yawned again, covering her face. "Even if we both got perfect scores, finishing first doesn't mean she has an edge. I've never heard of finishing time being a scoring factor."

A reporter shouted, "Even if it's not a scoring factor, we all think Fern has an edge over you!"

Katherine looked up. "Why?"

The reporter replied, "You've had top education and time to catch up. Fern's been farming for years and still got a perfect score. Doesn't that say it all?"

Katherine chuckled. "Your conclusion assumes I took Fern's SAT scores, which isn't very credible, is it?"

The reporter was stumped but still sided with Fern. "Do you have any evidence you didn't take Fern's SAT scores?"

Katherine shook her head. "No."

The reporter scoffed. "If you don't, doesn't that make you suspicious?"

Katherine sat on the stage, looking down at the outspoken reporter, and calmly said, "First, a journalist should be neutral and objective, which you clearly aren't. You can only prove what exists, not what doesn't. Don't you get that? Which media outlet do you work for? They won't keep you for long."

The reporter's face turned sour. "You..."

Most other reporters sided with Fern, sympathizing with the underdog and disliking Katherine's nonchalant attitude.

Another reporter stood up to defend his colleague. "According to your logic, you can't prove you didn't take Fern's SAT scores, but we can't reasonably suspect you either? That's twisted logic!"

Katherine smiled lightly. "I didn't expect my classmate who didn't do well in high school to get a perfect score now! This is quite troublesome. To prove I didn't do something, how about we take the test again? What do you say, Fern?"
