Chapter 395 Real Savior

Scarlett looked at him with wide eyes. "Jonathan, do you like Katherine?"

Jonathan hesitated. "Why do you ask?"

Scarlett replied, "I saw you save a cropped picture of just Katherine in a private album. If you don't like her, why keep her photo secretly?"

Jonathan was taken aback but stayed honest. "Yeah, I do like her. But there's nothing I can do about it now."

Scarlett shook her head. "If you like someone enough, there's always a way! Let's team up, Jonathan!"

Jonathan looked at Scarlett thoughtfully, a sly smile forming. "Team up? How do you want to do that?"

Meanwhile, Teresa was driving up front, jamming to rock music.

Katherine and Alex were in the back, her hand in his.

Alex patted her head and said in a babying tone, "You did great standing up for me."

Katherine rolled her eyes. "You've been indecisive and guilt-ridden for years without fighting back!"

Alex's eyes darkened. She was right. He'd been stuck in Scarlett's debt, unable to break free.

He'd been fed up for a while. Scarlett's intentions were clear, and she'd crossed the line many times.

But whenever she reminded him of her sacrifices, he'd feel guilty and give in.

Alex sighed. "If she had just saved my life, it would be one thing. But Scarlett ended up with irreversible health issues and infertility because of it. I can't ignore that kind of harm."

Katherine knew how important having kids was, especially for someone who loved them. Being told she could never have her own was devastating.

If Scarlett really had suffered such consequences to save Alex, she deserved his lifelong care.

But what if she hadn't?

Katherine turned to him. "Alex, where exactly did Scarlett save your life? Tell me about it."

He recalled briefly and spoke softly, "In a small village in Sunset Peak Valley. I was being hunted, seriously injured, and hiding in the bushes when a venomous snake bit me, causing blindness.

Scarlett was vacationing at the Mitchell family's mountain lodge nearby. She found me, sucked out the venom, and treated my wounds.

But because she didn't spit out the venom in time, she got poisoned and ended up infertile."

"Injured? Where were you hurt? Who was hunting you?" Katherine's eyes narrowed.

Alex patted her head. "An enemy. My injuries healed long ago."

Katherine frowned. "Is that enemy still around?"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Why? Planning to avenge me?"

Katherine looked serious. "I need to know more. I can't risk being a widow. If necessary, I'll help you get rid of that enemy!"

Alex chuckled. "Wow, you are so fierce! Guess I have my own bodyguard now!"

Katherine glared. "What's so funny? I'm serious! Nobody messes with my man but me!"

Alex paused, touched by her protective stance. He kissed her cheek and held her face gently. "Alright, don't worry. That was a long time ago. I'm fine, and I won't let you be a widow."

Katherine blushed, burying her head in his chest. "I'm being serious, and you just kiss me out of nowhere. That's not fair!"

Alex laughed, ruffling her hair. "Sorry, I'll try to hold back next time."

Katherine leaned against him, her mind drifting to Sunset Peak Valley.

She had been there too.

As a kid, she went with some nuns from the church to find a rare herb and stayed with a local family.

Every morning before dawn, she climbed the mountain with the nuns to gather herbs. Sometimes, she lost track of them and found her way back alone.

One day, she got separated and found an injured older boy on her way down. He'd been bitten by a snake and was blinded by the venom.

Luckily, she had the herb to counteract the poison. She sucked out the venom and applied the herb to his wound.

At first, the boy was hostile, thinking she meant harm. But he softened when he realized she was helping him.

He spoke very little and rarely talked to her.

Later, she brought him food every day, and he would say thank you.

Then one day, he was gone.

Katherine's heart raced as she recalled this memory.

Could Alex be that boy?

She snapped back to reality, grabbed Alex's arm, and pointed to a spot on his forearm. "Was this where the snake bit you?"

Alex looked surprised. "How did you know?"

Katherine continued, "You were blind at the time and never saw your savior, right?"

Alex nodded. "Yes, what's up?"

Katherine asked, "And the day you left, you wanted to say goodbye to your savior but were in a hurry, so you left your men to wait and gave a bracelet as a token?"

Alex replied, "That's right."

On that day, Scarlett, who was vacationing nearby, passed by. Because she was of similar age, Alex's men mistook her for the savior, and she went along with it, guilt-tripping him for years!

So that's how it was!

She had always felt that someone as selfish as Scarlett wouldn't risk her life to save a stranger.

She was lost in thought when Alex's rough finger brushed her nose. "Katherine, what's going on? What are you thinking about?"
