Chapter 75 She Looked Very Appetizing
After Katherine left, the atmosphere in the coffee shop returned to normal.
Kenny, aside from being a bit displeased by the interruption of his speech, didn't take the rustic assistant seriously at all. He turned around and continued enthusiastically introducing his movie script to them.
Sherry fawningly approached to pour coffee for the three CEOs. When she poured coffee for Alex, Sherry was trying to get closer.
The man suddenly stood up coldly and said, "Excuse me."
Alex came out of the coffee shop and looked around. He didn't see Katherine, and his expression turned very cold.
There was a VIP-exclusive restroom at the entrance of the coffee shop without gender distinctions.
The restroom door suddenly opened a crack, and Katherine poked her head out from inside, saying, "Alex, I'm here!"
After speaking, Katherine's little head retracted, leaving the door open for him.
Alex squinted, strode over, and walked into the restroom.
The restroom door closed with a click.
Katherine tilted her head slightly, looking at the man in front of her, who was much taller and had a very unpleasant expression. "Alex, what do you want to say?"
Alex looked down at her, a hint of sarcasm flickering in his narrow eyes, and wryly said, "Ms. Galatea, didn't you just pretend not to know me?"
Katherine tugged at the corner of her mouth and then explained, "It's because I feel that our social standings are worlds apart, and there's no need to pretend to know each other outside."
Alex furrowed his brows and repeated, "No need?"
Katherine nodded and explained, "Alex, I know you only married me to please your family. In front of your elders, I will naturally cooperate with you to play the role of your wife. But this is not the Melville Manor, and there are no Melville Manor people here. I don't think we need to act, so we don't need to acknowledge each other."
Alex stared coldly at her, a hint of annoyance in his calm expression, and then he retorted, "Ms. Galatea, is it that my status embarrasses you? Or am I not up to your standards, making you so disdainful of acknowledging me to others?"
Katherine furrowed her brows, candidly saying, "Your status won't embarrass anyone. On the contrary, it can enhance the social standing of most people, but I don't need that. I also don't want too many people to know about our relationship. Alex, in consideration of my cooperation with you in front of your family, please help me keep this brief relationship hidden from unnecessary people."
Alex's face showed no obvious emotion. He fell silent for two seconds and then said in a low voice, "Since you insist, as you wish."
Katherine breathed a sigh of relief and then replied, "Thank you for understanding."
As long as Katherine could reach a consensus with him on this point, she would find things much easier going forward.
"Now, explain to me your behavior in the coffee shop just now," Alex suddenly raised her chin forcefully, asking aggressively.
Katherine was taken aback and forced to meet his dark eyes.
"Alex, what behavior are you referring to?" she then asked.
His eyes squinted, exuding a sense of danger,, and he scoffed, "What were you doing in the coffee shop before you came out?"
Katherine felt a bit guilty and excused, "I... was drinking orange juice."
Alex sarcastically raised his eyebrows and rebutted, "Do you need to clink glasses with a man to drink orange juice?"
Katherine sighed and thought he indeed noticed that.
Before Katherine could explain her actions, he leaned in close, his tone stern and oppressive. "Didn't I tell you not to casually drink things from strangers outside? Did you ignore my words?"
The stark height difference forced Katherine to tilt her head uncomfortably, then explained, "No, I remember what you said, Alex..."
Katherine's small face was forcibly lifted again, the man's slender fingers lightly pinching her cheeks, the rough thumb and forefinger holding her chin, dominating her from above, then saying, "So, you did it on purpose? Hmm?"
Katherine explained uncomfortably, "Alex, it's not what you think..."
The man's face remained calm, but a hint of stern annoyance lingered between his brows. He moaned, "You are Mrs. Melville now. But you clink glasses with another man in front of me. How do you think I should feel?"
Knowing she was in the wrong, Katherine felt helpless. She succinctly said, "It's because he has something I want."
Alex's grip on her loosened slightly, asking, "What do you want?"
Katherine didn't want to reveal much about herself to him. But at this point, she had no choice but to explain.
Katherine could only be honest and said, "Mr. Mostow's gallery has three paintings I want, but he refused to sell them to me. He said that if I clink glasses with him, he would give me the three paintings."
Alex furrowed his brows, then released her hand and replied, "If you want paintings, you can just tell me. You don't need to clink glasses under someone else's coercion."
Katherine lowered her eyelids and said softly, "We are not a real couple, and I don't want to trouble you. I also don't want to owe you."
Alex looked at her indifferently and remarked, "That's not considered owing. I've said that besides love, I can give you anything as long as you play the role of Mrs. Melville for these three months."
Katherine raised her eyes, her gaze clear, and then she rebutted, "The relationship between people fundamentally starts from owing each other. Whether it's in terms of emotions or money, owing and repaying, back and forth, relationships become complicated and muddy. It's hard to cut ties later on cleanly. So it's best to avoid it as much as possible."
Alex furrowed his brows slightly and questioned, "It seems like you're calculating the day you leave every day."
While other women hoped to get associated with him, Katherine was afraid of having any connection with him.
Katherine smirked, her eyes bright and mischievous. She was still upset about her chin being pinched by him earlier, and a sense of retaliation rose within her. She provocatively hooked her arm around Alex's neck, asking, "What if I cling to you? Wouldn't Alex be more afraid of me clinging to you?"
Alex didn't avoid her; he just lowered his eyes and quietly watched Katherine play her game.
Katherine didn't look particularly good today. She was dressed oddly, her face painted yellow with dense freckles, and she had two childish braids.
But even on this somewhat yellow face, her eyes were still clean and clear, captivating, with curved eyelashes like the moon in the sky.
Katherine looked very... appetizing.
Alex's eyes darkened and a visible roll in the throat occurred.
Katherine felt that her retaliatory action of hooking his neck didn't seem to have the desired effect of disgusting Alex. Feeling something was off, she furrowed her brows in confusion and asked, "...Alex?"
Their eyes met, and she saw a spark ignite in the depths of the man's eyes.
Katherine was taken aback and felt awkward. She instinctively tried to withdraw her hand to step back, but the man's large hand firmly held her waist, and her body almost collided with his chest, even closer than before.
Alex stared at her, his eyes deepening.
They were too close, their breaths intermingling.
Suddenly, their eyes seemed to be drawn together by a magnetic force, inching closer, meeting each other.
