Chapter 536 Heart Racing
Ambrosia just shook her head, looking totally uninterested. "Nope."
Sunny, feeling like he was under a microscope, snapped, "You still haven't answered me! What were you two up to last time? Why'd you try to throw me off?"
Sunny's voice was way too loud, and Ambrosia shot him a dirty look. Her gold-rimmed glasses flashed as she warned, "Are you here to visit the patient or what? She's got pregnancy complications and needs peace and quiet. Keep it up, and I'll have hospital security toss you out."
Sunny was stunned and, seeing Katherine's worn-out face, clammed up, feeling pretty embarrassed.
Back in the day, he would've been all rebellious.
Now? Just plain ashamed.
After all, Katherine's hospital stay was all thanks to Alice and Scarlett.
Katherine rubbed her temples, "Ambrosia, you should head back to the office."
Ambrosia shrugged, "The office is fine. Everything's handled, so don't stress, Katherine."
Katherine was beat. "If you're staying, then zip it. I need more sleep. No noise."
With that, she lay down and pulled the blanket over her head.
Under the covers, Katherine checked her phone. A few unread messages, but none from Alex.
'Is this how it always goes? Once a guy gets what he wants, he ghosts you.' she tought.
He left for a business trip at the crack of dawn without even a goodbye!
Even if she was out cold, he could've left a message!
But nada.
Men!
Seeing Katherine crash, Ambrosia slouched in her chair and checked her phone for any work messages.
While typing a reply, she heard a low voice next to her, "What's your deal with Katherine?"
Ambrosia didn't even look up, "Friends."
Sunny pressed, "Like BFFs?"
Ambrosia paused, then said softly, "Kinda."
She hated the term "close friends," thought it was cheesy! Her bond with Katherine and Frank was deeper than that, more like family.
Sunny lowered his voice to a whisper, "Why'd you try to throw me off back then? Scared I'd find out something?"
Ambrosia glanced at him, "You're asking again?"
Sunny was dying to know. He was sure last time wasn't just a fluke, so of course, he wanted answers.
What was Katherine doing in Kryptonix City then? Why was she scared he'd find out?
Sunny frowned, all serious, "Don't forget, I banged my head on the door trying to save you and got a concussion! Whether you were faking it or not, I should be your hero. Shouldn't you treat your hero with a bit more respect? At least answer me seriously!"
Ambrosia raised an eyebrow and looked at Sunny's handsome young face with a smirk, "Oh, I remember now. Mr. Mitchell's head is pretty tough; you shattered the hospital's tempered glass door."
Sunny's face went dark in a flash.
In his anger, he lost control of his volume again!
Ambrosia put a finger to her lips and shushed him, signaling him not to disturb the sleeping Katherine.
Sunny then realized he had raised his voice again and pursed his lips, falling silent.
Ambrosia ignored him, got up to tuck Katherine in, and then moved to a farther sofa to play games and pass the time.
If she stayed by the bedside, the little prince of the Mitchell family would undoubtedly keep pestering her with questions, disturbing Katherine again.
Seeing Ambrosia playing a game, Sunny leaned over to take a look and found that her game level was quite high. Her game ID was: Rainbow_Adventurer, which seemed familiar. "You play this game too? I play it as well. Let's team up; I'll carry you!"
Ambrosia focused on her phone, uninterested, "No, I'm just killing time. I'm not interested in playing with kids."
Sunny frowned in displeasure, "What's wrong with you? I told you I'm not a kid! I'm an adult now! Why can't you remember that?"
Ambrosia ignored him, engrossed in her game as if he didn't exist.
Sunny, not getting any response, felt very annoyed but couldn't throw a fit in the hospital room. He could only cross his arms and sit angrily to the side, glaring at Ambrosia.
After playing a few rounds, Ambrosia got tired. She glanced at the bed and saw that Katherine was still asleep. She then nodded at Sunny, "Mr. Mitchell, if you're not going to sleep, could you move? I want to nap here."
Sunny frowned and huffed but stood up straight.
"Thanks!" Ambrosia didn't stand at the ceremony. As soon as Sunny got up, she lazily lay down on the sofa, "Mr. Mitchell, if you're sticking around, watch her. Wake me up if she stirs."
"Alright!" Sunny replied with a stiff face, feeling really annoyed. Being treated like a kid was not a good feeling, even though he was often treated like one everywhere he went!
Sunny had no interest in watching Ambrosia sleep. He glanced at Katherine to make sure she was still asleep, then walked to the window to look at the scenery outside and think about what to do with Alice and Scarlett in the future.
He didn't know how much time had passed when he suddenly heard a noise!
Sunny snapped back to reality and turned around to see the woman with glasses really dozing off on the sofa. As she turned over, her glasses slipped off her face and fell to the ground.
She is such a grown-up, yet she doesn't know to take off her glasses before sleeping.
Sunny walked over with a look of disdain, bent down to pick up her glasses, and inadvertently glanced at her face, freezing in shock!
So beautiful!
Sunny couldn't help but hold his breath, hearing his heartbeat quicken.
What the heck? His heart was racing.
How could he possibly be interested in a woman like this?
Perhaps sensing someone nearby, Ambrosia's eyes suddenly snapped open, her cold gaze locking onto Sunny, who was now too close, "What do you want?"
Meeting Ambrosia's cold eyes, Sunny felt inexplicably guilty, "Your... your glasses fell off! I was just picking them up for you!"
