Chapter 655 Solve the Problems

Alex squinted a bit, saying, "Just wanted to see you."

Katherine snapped, "Mr. Melville, if you got something to say, spit it out. If not, I'm hitting the sack!"

Alex shrugged. "Go ahead."

Katherine, feeling smug, said, "Alright, I'm hanging up then."

Alex's voice was flat but had a serious edge. "You can sleep, but don't end the video call."

Katherine looked shocked. "I need to sleep. How am I supposed to do that without hanging up? You wanna watch me sleep or something?"

Alex leaned on one hand, totally unfazed. "Not like I haven't seen it before."

Even though Alex's face was blank, Katherine felt he was being a real pain. "Mr. Melville, I didn't know you were into such weird stuff. But I don't have to play along. Find someone else!"

Alex said, "There is no one else."

Katherine shot back, "How can there be no one else? Call your wife, Sophia!"

Mentioning Sophia made Alex frown. "Do you not want the painting anymore?"

Alex continued, "Point the phone at the bed and sleep."

Katherine stared at the phone screen for a full minute, trying not to lose it, then put the phone on the nightstand, aiming the camera at the bed.

She angrily got into bed, pulled the covers over her head, and hid completely. But then she heard Alex's command. "Take the covers off your head. You'll suffocate."

Katherine was pissed but put up with it to save Lotus's painting from Alex's threats. She pulled the covers down, showing her head, but turned her back to the camera, not letting him see her face.

This time, Alex didn't complain and stayed quiet.

It was super quiet; she couldn't hear anything from his end. Katherine wondered if he had hung up, so she sneaked a peek, only to lock eyes with Alex.

The call was still on, and Alex was staring right at her.

Katherine felt awkward for a moment, then turned back, biting her lip, feeling really conflicted.

In the black car cruising over the Nebula Arch Bridge, Alex leaned back in the back seat, watching Katherine sleep with her back to him on the screen, lost in thought.

Leander, sitting in the passenger seat, turned around, holding a flashing phone, and said, "Mr. Melville, it's Ms. Coleman. She couldn't reach you, so she called me."

Alex, not wanting to wake Katherine, lowered his voice, saying, "Tell her I'm already resting."

"Got it!" Leander nodded, then answered the call, "Hello? Ms. Coleman!"

Sophia's voice sounded worried. "Leander, why can't I reach Alex? Are you home yet?"

Leander replied, "Yes, Mr. Melville is already resting."

Sophia sounded doubtful. "Resting? Then why can't I reach his phone?"

Leander stuck to the script. "Maybe Mr. Melville's phone died. Don't worry, he's fine."

"Alright, as long as he's okay. I'll call him tomorrow morning."

After hanging up, Leander turned back. "Mr. Melville, Ms. Coleman is good now."

"Okay," Alex replied, barely paying attention.

Leander hesitated, then said, "Mr. Melville, Mrs. Melville seems to be at the Mitchell Mansion. Should we send someone to get her?"

Alex squinted at the screen, which showed Katherine sleeping. "No need. She's safe there."

He'd noticed during the call that the room wasn't her usual one.

Katherine still didn't want to come home with him, so having Bernard look after her was a relief.

When Alex got home, he saw Sandra in the living room, looking worried. He took off his coat and walked over. "Grandma, why aren't you asleep yet?"

Sandra snapped out of her thoughts, catching a whiff of alcohol. "Alex, have you been drinking again?"

"Just a few," Alex admitted, tossing his coat on the sofa and sitting down. "Why are you up so late?"

Sandra frowned. "I heard you went to Sophia's birthday party today."

Alex nodded. "Yeah."

Sandra sighed, "Alex, when are you bringing Katherine back?"

Alex knew Sandra was worried and tried to reassure her. "It's not the right time yet. She's okay now, so don't stress."

Sandra's face was full of concern. "How can I not worry? I can't sleep thinking about Katherine out there. She was pregnant!"

Alex said, "She's not alone; someone's taking good care of her."

"Who can take care of her? Alex, you're her husband! You can't leave it to someone else!"

Alex wanted to take care of Katherine, but every time he got close, she pushed him away. He couldn't force it right now.

Alex looked seriously at Sandra. "Grandma, I promise she'll be fine, and I'll bring her back. Don't worry too much, and get some rest."

Sandra sighed deeply, "Alex, I know the Coleman Family has helped us a lot. You need to repay the favor and cut ties with Sophia as soon as possible. Only then will Katherine come home and stop misunderstanding you."

Alex nodded. "I know."

Sandra said no more, got up, and let the maid help her to her room.

After Sandra left, Alex leaned back on the sofa and rubbed his temples. Suddenly, he sensed movement in the corner.

A sharp look came into Alex's eyes. "Who's there? Come out!"
