Chapter 438 It's Mine
Scarlett had been pretending to be his savior for ten years, completely fooling him.
Alex's anger filled the ward, making everyone uneasy.
Sensing something was off, Scarlett looked at Alex and met his cold, dark eyes.
"Alex, what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Alex's voice was icy. "Miss Mitchell, back then, how often did you bring me food, and how many times a day?"
Scarlett's eyes showed guilt, but she answered, "Uh, I... I can't really remember... Maybe twice a day, morning and evening."
Alex stared her down. "Miss Mitchell, do you not remember, or do you not know at all?"
Scarlett realized her mistake. "I... I really can't remember! Alex, it’s been ten years. I was just a kid. How could I remember all the details?"
Alex's tone was cold. "Even with a bad memory, you wouldn't get every detail wrong!"
Scarlett's eyes filled with tears. "Alex, why don't you believe me? Just because I got some details wrong doesn't mean our encounter didn't happen."
Alex looked at Scarlett, who was about to play the victim again. He used to find it annoying, but now it was disgusting.
Scarlett had come to him with the token he left behind. Busy with taking over the Melville Group, he didn't verify if she was really his savior. He just wanted to repay the kindness and fulfill any wishes she had. But she became obsessively attached to him.
He made it clear he wasn't interested in her.
Later, Scarlett showed him a medical report, claiming snake venom had damaged her reproductive system, making her infertile.
Ridiculous!
Scarlett had deceived him for years, making him feel guilty. Even though he was annoyed, he tolerated her.
Alice realized what was happening. With Katherine's intentional guidance, it seemed Scarlett's act was about to be exposed.
This couldn't happen!
Alice was counting on Scarlett to marry into the Melville family and bring her pride and honor. If Scarlett's lie was exposed, she would be finished.
Thinking quickly, Alice defended her daughter. "Alex, Scarlett has a poor memory. It's normal to forget details after so many years! You can't deny she saved your life just because of a few mistakes!"
Alex gave Alice a cold look and sneered. "How can you prove it was really her who saved me?"
Alice frowned. "What more proof do you need? Scarlett has the token you gave her! Could it be fake? Scarlett, show him the bracelet!"
Scarlett, feeling guilty and flustered, had almost forgotten about the token until her mom reminded her.
She quickly pulled out the bracelet from her pocket and handed it to Alex, looking pitiful. "Alex, look, isn't this the token you left for me? You can check if it's fake..."
Alex glanced at it, his brows furrowed, eyes narrowed.
He didn't need to check; he could tell at a glance it was real.
The bracelet was indeed real.
But Scarlett's details didn't match what happened back then. It seemed like she made it up, not just remembered wrong.
Alice, looking concerned, said, "Alex, you know this bracelet is real! Now that my daughter's infertility is cured, you can't doubt her like this!"
Scarlett, following her mom's lead, choked up. "Alex, my body has recovered. You don't have to be responsible for me anymore, but you can't doubt me like this. It really hurts."
Alex's expression darkened. Scarlett and Alice's words couldn't fool him anymore, but with the bracelet in Scarlett's possession, he had no proof she wasn't the girl from back then.
At that moment, a small hand reached out and took the bracelet from Scarlett!
Scarlett was stunned and frowned, seeing Katherine naturally putting the bracelet on her wrist.
"Katherine, what are you doing? That's the bracelet Alex gave me..."
The man's bracelet was a bit large for the girl's slender wrist, dangling loosely.
Katherine raised her arm, admiring the bracelet that was rightfully hers, and smiled. "Scarlett, do you really think Alex gave you this bracelet?"
Scarlett frowned, trying to stay polite. "Katherine, what do you mean? If it wasn't given to me, was it given to you?"
Katherine nodded. "That's right, it was given to me!"
Scarlett's eyes filled with disdain, but she tried to stay courteous. "Katherine, stop joking. You didn't even know Alex back then! Give me back the bracelet!"
Katherine shook the bracelet and said seriously, "Scarlett, let me tell you what you got wrong! Alex was wearing white clothes that day, and the injured part was his left arm. He was found coughing in the bushes! His savior brought him whole wheat bread every day, and he only ate one bread and drank a little water from his savior's canteen each day! He didn't like to talk and didn't pay much attention to his savior! Wasn't he annoying? He was so indifferent to his savior!"
Alex was momentarily stunned, looking at Katherine. How did she know such details?
He hadn't told her in detail, and since he was blind from the snake venom at the time, he couldn't see or remember.
