Chapter 402 Katherine Is A liar

Moonlight?

The flower's name was Moonlight, pretty poetic.

Its color really did look like moonlight at night.

Katherine had never heard of it before; must be rare.

She stared at the flowers for a bit, then asked, "Sir, with your status, why are you fertilizing the flowers yourself? Don't you have a gardener?"

Edwin replied, "This is my wife's favorite flower. It's tough to care for, needs specific conditions. I don't trust anyone else with it."

Wife?

His current wife was Scarlett's mom!

This old jerk ditched his first wife, and now he's all about the flowers his new wife likes. How ironic!

Did he think this made him look caring?

Hypocrite!

Thinking about all the crap her mom Claire went through with the Mitchells, Katherine got mad.

This guy, who should've been Claire's rock, joined in on the bullying. What a jerk!

Katherine didn't want to be nice. She sneered, "Mr. Mitchell, instead of fussing over flowers, maybe spend more time with your wife. It's more practical than this self-indulgence!"

Edwin was taken aback; it was the first time someone, especially someone he barely knew like Katherine, had dared to criticize him to his face.

She glared at him, clearly hostile.

Edwin didn't get why she was mad but didn't want to argue. He nodded and sighed, "You have a point. But some things, if not done in time, will be too late when you finally get it."

Katherine was puzzled. Too late? What did he mean?

"Katherine, you liar, so you're here!"

Sunny suddenly appeared, panting and pointing at her angrily.

Katherine raised an eyebrow. This silly boy was home too!

Seeing his son being rude, Edwin frowned. "Sunny, don't talk to a guest like that. It's rude!"

Sunny noticed his dad and toned it down. "Dad, you're here too! I need to talk to her!"

Edwin lectured, "Even if you need to talk, be polite. Don't point!"

Sunny frowned, reluctantly saying, "Katherine... sorry, can we talk?"

Katherine nodded. "Sure."

She turned and coldly said, "Mr. Mitchell, excuse me."

Edwin nodded, sipping from his thermos. "Go ahead."

Katherine followed Sunny, and Edwin watched her, thinking of his missing daughter, and fell into deep thought..

He closed his eyes, remembering his missing wife and daughter.

"Dad, you're here messing with these flowers again?"

Hearing "Dad," Edwin snapped back and saw Scarlett. Sadness flickered in his eyes.

To his second daughter, Edwin was gentle. "What's up, Scarlett?"

Scarlett said, "Mom's not feeling well. She wants you to check on her."

Edwin frowned. "If she's not feeling well, she should go to the hospital. I can't treat illnesses."

Scarlett was taken aback. Her dad's words echoed what Alex had told her.

Did men treat women they didn't love all the same?

Since marrying into the Mitchell family, her mom had done everything to please her dad and in-laws but still couldn't earn any respect or love from Edwin!

Over the years, her mom's status in the family was only maintained by having her and Sunny.

She couldn't understand these men. Her dad still missed his unfaithful ex-wife and the missing Laura, ignoring her mom's love.

And Alex, he just had to like that scheming country girl, Katherine, ignoring her love.

Scarlett wasn't ready to give up and tried to fight for her mom. "Dad, you should go check on Mom. I heard grandparents are hosting an important guest today. If Mom says she's not feeling well and needs to go to the hospital, they'll think it's bad luck!"

Edwin pinched his brow. "You go back and stay with your mom. I'll see her in a bit."

Scarlett pretended to be annoyed. "I want to stay with Mom too, but I have to take care of Charles! Dad, you should go be with Mom!"

Edwin sighed and got up.

Sunny brought Katherine to his room, afraid the adults would scold him if they talked outside.

Furry, who was doing Sunny's homework, was surprised to see Katherine.

Sunny ordered, "Furry, get out!"

Furry bleated, "I haven't finished."

"I don't need you to finish! Get out now!"

"Yes!"

Furry put down his pen and got up, relieved not to do Sunny's homework. He quickly left!

After driving Furry out, Sunny closed the door tightly, turned around, and angrily pointed at Katherine. "Katherine, you big liar!"

Katherine lazily looked around his room and casually pulled a chair to sit down. "What did I lie to you about?"

Sunny glared at her. "Don't play dumb! You lied, saying you weren't interested in Alex anymore and wouldn't compete with Scarlett for him. But now you're back with Alex, aren't you?"

Katherine admitted calmly. "I did go back to the Melville family, but I didn't compete."

Sunny, arms crossed, said angrily, "Right! You didn't compete. You just had to beckon, and Alex would be yours. You're so impressive!"

Katherine yawned out of boredom. "Did you bring me here just to compliment me?"

Sunny was used to Katherine's nonchalant attitude. Although angry, he wasn't surprised anymore!

"I ask you, can you give Alex back to my sister?"

Katherine didn't hesitate. "No!"

Sunny was very upset. "Why? Are you going back on your word?"

Katherine smiled, casually resting her elbow on the chair's armrest and supporting her head with one hand, "Before, Scarlett caused a misunderstanding between Alex and me, which left me very disappointed in him. Now that it's cleared up and we like each other, why should I give him up to your sister?"

Sunny said, "Katherine, stop making excuses! just breaking your promise!

"Even if I were willing to give him to Scarlett, could she handle it? Before I came along, Scarlett hadn't won Alex's heart or person for years, had she?"
