Chapter 252 Bernard Worries About Katherine
He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he always felt uneasy about Katherine being alone there.
Bernard turned and asked, "Do you have my number?"
Katherine nodded. "Yeah, I saved it."
"Alright, call me if anything comes up before I get back," he said.
"Okay, Mr. Mitchell," Katherine replied.
Only then did Bernard walk away, his tall, slender figure blending into the crowd of guests.
Moments earlier, Bernard had entered with Katherine, showing so much concern for her that Sophie and Scarlett, chatting on the stairs, couldn't help but feel uneasy.
Scarlett forced a fake smile. "Looks like Bernard is really attentive to Katherine! The coat she's wearing is the one I gave him a few days ago!"
That coat was originally bought for Alex, but he didn't accept it. Disappointed, she gave it to Bernard instead, thinking it would be a waste to throw it away.
After all, Bernard and Alex were about the same size, so he wouldn't notice anything.
But now, seeing that coat on Katherine was an eyesore!
Why would Bernard give Katherine a coat? Didn't he dislike her?
Sophie felt even more upset and downed her glass of red wine in one gulp. "Scarlett, did you see that? Katherine must be really capable. In just a few days, she turned Bernard's dislike into concern!"
For years, Sophie had always been Bernard's plus-one at Aunt Victoria's birthday party. She had been devoted to Bernard for years and never received a single caring gesture from him!
Why did Katherine get Bernard's concern? Sophie was furious!
The more she thought about it, the more upset she got. Sophie stormed down the stairs towards Katherine, shouting, "You shameless woman!"
Katherine was enjoying a small cake from the dessert table. Hearing the commotion, she turned to look at Sophie and raised an eyebrow. "Oh, it's Miss Jones! Who ticked you off to make you start cursing right away?"
Katherine turned her head, her fair and delicate face stunningly beautiful. With a bit of cream on the corner of her mouth, she looked lively and adorable.
Seeing her like this made Sophie even more annoyed.
"You seduced Alex, and now you're seducing my Bernard! Katherine, can't you live without a man?" she cursed.
Katherine laughed and snorted, "Seems like the one who can't live without a man isn't me. Now, isn't it you, Miss Jones, who's hysterical because you couldn't be someone's plus one?"
Sophie gritted her teeth and shouted, "You!"
She couldn't swallow this anger and grabbed a piece of cake from the buffet table, ready to throw it at Katherine's face!
Seeing this, Scarlett quickly pulled her friend Sophie back. "Sophie, come on!"
Sophie was already in a bad mood because she couldn't be Bernard's plus one and had drunk a lot of red wine. If she lost control and caused a scene now, it would be difficult to clean up.
Scarlett comforted her, "Sophie, Katherine is only here with Bernard because of work. Don't overthink it! Come on, you must be drunk. Let's go to the terrace and get some fresh air!"
Sophie felt stifled and didn't want to let Katherine off, but under Scarlett's persuasion, she gradually calmed down. She glared at Katherine before walking towards the terrace with Scarlett.
On the terrace, the night wind was chilly.
Sophie's drunkenness faded a lot, but her resentment didn't diminish at all.
She said, "Scarlett, you shouldn't have stopped me. I should have taught Katherine a lesson!"
Scarlett, looking kind and sensible, shook her head and reminded, "Sophie, you were too impulsive. Don't forget, today is Aunt Victoria's birthday party!"
Realizing this, Sophie shivered and felt a bit scared.
She almost forgot that this party was Aunt Victoria's birthday!
Aunt Victoria was a super perfectionist and a strong woman. Anyone who dared to cause trouble at her birthday party would be completely offending her!
If that happened, not only would Aunt Victoria kick her out without mercy, but her chances of being with Bernard in the future would also be impossible with Aunt Victoria's support!
Sophie replied, "Scarlett, it's a good thing you stopped me, or I would have really angered Aunt Victoria, and that wouldn't be good!"
"Sophie, it's good that you understand!" Scarlett answered.
Scarlett didn't really want to stop her. She would have loved to see Sophie give Katherine a harsh beating, but it had to happen without her being involved.

A slick voice suddenly came from behind them. "Isn't this Scarlett? It's been a while, and you've become even more beautiful!"
Scarlett turned to see a man in a plaid suit holding a glass of red wine with a greasy smile on his face.
After a few seconds, Scarlett recognized the man and said, "Tony, it's you."
This man was Tony Steven, the son of an aunt on Scarlett's mother's side. He was a notorious womanizer, gambler, and addict. A few years ago, he was sued for raping a woman and was sentenced to a few years in prison. He should be out now, but he was still the same as before.
Tony responded to Scarlett, his lustful eyes fixed on the elegantly dressed Sophie beside her.
Then he commented, "This beautiful lady must be Scarlett's best friend, Miss Jones, right? It's been years, and Miss Jones has really grown into a stunning woman!"
Sophie found Tony's gaze disgusting and took a step back. If he weren't Scarlett's cousin, she would have slapped him already!
Scarlett noticed Tony's lustful intentions and suddenly had an idea. She pointed towards a direction in the banquet hall and said, "Tony, look over there! That pretty girl should be more your type. And she's single!"
Tony's lustful eyes finally moved away from Sophie and followed Scarlett's direction. He spotted the pure, fairy-like Katherine, and his eyes lit up with lust!
