Chapter 852 Immediate Discovery
Rolf glanced at the time and noticed the jealousy in Sophia's furrowed brow. He nodded, "Alright! I'll call right now! Just a moment!"
Sophia paced back and forth in the examination room, occasionally glancing at Rolf, who was already dialing.
He had called twice, but Clio didn't answer. This didn't look good!
Sophia noticed something was wrong and asked, "Dr. Tackett, what's going on now?"
Rolf looked a bit embarrassed, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Turner, Clio didn't answer the phone. There might be some issues. I'll go check it out now!"
Sophia's frown deepened!
Could Clio be too engrossed to answer the phone?
Thinking of this, she couldn't stand it for another second!
"What exactly is the issue, Dr. Tackett? I'll go with you to check it out!"
Rolf didn't refuse Sophia. He reached into a drawer, took out the key to the special examination room, and led Sophia to check the situation.
Meanwhile, Ambrosia and Sunny, who were eavesdropping outside, didn't have time to escape. They hurriedly hid in a nearby storage room!
Following Rolf out, the always suspicious Sophia sensed something unusual in the air. She stopped and looked around but saw no one.
Rolf noticed she wasn't following and asked, "What's wrong, Mrs. Turner? Did you see something?"
Sophia snapped out of it and frowned, "Nothing, I just thought I saw two shadows pass by the door crack."
Rolf, who was highly nearsighted, didn't notice any shadows. His thick glasses were proof of that.
"This area is abandoned and rarely visited, Mrs. Turner. You must have been mistaken."
Was she mistaken?
If it were a busy area, she might have thought she was mistaken and wouldn't have cared.
But no one ever came here, so how could she have seen two shadows?
Sophia still felt uneasy and told Rolf, "Dr. Tackett, wait a moment! I'll check the storage room to see if anyone's there!"
Rolf didn't stop her and agreed, waiting in place.
Sophia walked towards the storage room. She had seen the shadows move in that direction and heard the door close!
At the storage room door, Sophia pushed it.
The door didn't budge; it was locked from the inside!
This made Sophia even more suspicious. She turned to Rolf, "Dr. Tackett, is this storage room usually locked?"
Rolf looked surprised, "No! It's just filled with some useless junk, nothing valuable. It shouldn't be locked."
Sophia frowned, "Then why is it locked now?"
"Is it locked?" Rolf walked over, tried the handle, and found it wouldn't turn. The door was indeed locked!
"This is strange. This storage room is never locked. We even pile useless junk in here! Who would lock it?"
Rolf muttered in confusion.
Sophia was now sure she hadn't been mistaken. Someone must have been eavesdropping and hiding in the storage room when they came out!
"I'll stay here. You go get the key to this storage room! I need to check and make sure no one's inside before I can relax!"
Rolf found the locked door odd but didn't think anyone would be inside. Maybe a nurse had locked it after throwing in some junk.
But since Sophia insisted, he agreed and went back to the examination room to get the key.
Sophia stood at the door, arms crossed, staring at it. She didn't want to let anyone inside escape unnoticed!
Inside the storage room, Ambrosia glared at Sunny, "What now?"
Sunny shrugged, "What can we do? There's no furniture to hide behind. We can't hide anywhere! Instead of waiting to be discovered, we should confront her and ask what they did to Alex!"
With that, Sunny moved to leave, ready to confront Sophia!
Ambrosia thought it unwise and pulled him back, "Don't mess this up!"
Sunny turned back, "What other choice do we have? The doctor will open the door soon and find us. We won't have a good explanation, and Sophia won't believe we just happened to be here and heard nothing!"
Ambrosia looked around the storage room. It was filled with medical waste piled high, but nowhere to hide.
Sunny was right; they had no other choice and were about to be discovered!
Just then, they heard the sound of a key in the door. It was about to be opened.
Ambrosia took a deep breath, ready to face whatever came next. Suddenly, someone pulled them both into a dark space!
They couldn't see anything!
Just as they were about to panic, they heard the doctor and Sophia's puzzled voices outside.
"See? Mrs. Turner, there's no one in the storage room."
Sophia frowned and searched the room carefully, finding no one.
But she still found it odd, "A storage room that's never locked suddenly being locked, Dr. Tackett, don't you find that strange?"
"Mrs. Turner, though this area is rarely visited, sometimes nurses do pile medical junk here. Maybe one of them locked it by accident! Don't worry too much!"
Sophia frowned, feeling it wasn't as simple as Rolf said. "Dr. Tackett, is there surveillance in this hallway? If so, I'd like to check it now! You see, I'm very suspicious and obsessive. If I don't confirm my doubts, I won't sleep tonight!"
