Chapter 491 I'm Fine

Alice showed off her figure, hoping to catch Edwin's eye.

Edwin just stared at her face. "If you want that kind of life, find another guy. I wouldn't care."

He walked past her and headed to his small cubicle.

Alice felt insulted. She used to be a campus beauty with many admirers, but Edwin was the only one who completely disregarded her..

She fell for him, even though he only had eyes for her best friend, Claire.

"Edwin, how am I worse than Claire? You don't even want to touch me? My figure is way better than hers!"

Edwin paused at Claire's name and said, "Don't mention her."

Alice pushed on. "She's a flirt. She found another guy and had a daughter for you to raise! Am I worse than her?"

"If you don't shut up, get out of this house!" Edwin snapped.

Alice was shocked. Edwin was usually cold but rarely lost his temper.

She had only mentioned Claire twice, and he reacted so strongly. Had he not forgotten Claire after all these years?

Edwin didn't want to talk to Alice anymore, so he went into his cubicle and shut the door.

Alice buttoned up her clothes, gathered her thoughts, and focused on helping Scarlett steal the exam questions.

Meanwhile, Katherine left the Mitchell Mansion and walked to the nearest subway station.

It was hard to catch a cab near the mansion, and there were no bus stops.

A black sedan pulled up beside her, and Bernard's face appeared. "Katherine, get in. I'll give you a ride."

Katherine kept walking. "No need."

Bernard sighed. "As a friend, can I give you a ride?"

Katherine didn't look at him. "Since when are we friends?"

Bernard fell silent.

He understood her rejection. He had treated her badly before, influenced by his half-sister Scarlett.

He had no right to ask for her forgiveness. Bernard thought for a moment, stopped the car, and walked with Katherine.

Katherine noticed him and frowned. "If you want to walk, go somewhere else. You're blocking my sunlight!"

"Sorry," Bernard said, moving to her other side.

Katherine glanced at him but stayed silent. She couldn't stop him from walking on a public road. After ten minutes, they reached the subway station, and Katherine was relieved to finally shake him off.

Katherine checked the traffic and quickened her pace to leave Bernard behind.

Just as she was about to cross, a car sped towards her!

She noticed too late. In a split second, a tall figure lunged at her, shielding her.

As they fell, Bernard made sure she landed on him, not pressing on her belly.

After the screeching brakes and Bernard's grunt, they were safe.

Katherine, regaining her composure, first noted the gray van's license plate.

Then she looked at Bernard beneath her. "Are you okay?"

Bernard sat up, gently patting her head. "I'm fine! Don't walk so fast and be so absent-minded next time!"

Seeing his disheveled state and concern, Katherine felt a pang and helped him up.

Bernard was surprised by her help. He hesitated, then stood, but his right foot didn't touch the ground.

Katherine quickly noticed. "Did that car run over your foot?"

Bernard shook his head. "It's nothing. As long as you're okay."

Katherine felt awkward and didn't know what to say.

Bernard limped a few steps, hailed a cab, and turned to her. "Come on, get in. I'll take you to the Melville family."

Katherine looked at him, nodded, and got in.

In the car, Bernard gave the driver the Melville family's address.

Katherine changed it. "Sir, take us to the nearest hospital."

Bernard was surprised. "I'm fine. No need for a hospital."

Katherine frowned, looking ahead. "It's best to get checked. I don't want to owe you."

Bernard sighed. "I owe you. I didn't recognize you before and treated you badly. It's my fault."

Katherine turned, seeing his bloodshot eyes, feeling a bit sour. She looked out the window. "You didn't know who I was. Your attitude was understandable."

Bernard cautiously asked, "So, have you forgiven me?"

Katherine said, "Let's check your foot first!"

Bernard smiled. "It's nothing! As long as you're willing to talk to me, I wouldn't mind even if my foot had to be amputated!"

Katherine frowned. "You better not get amputated. I don't want to take care of you for life!"

Bernard affectionately patted her head. "Don't worry, I'm fine. Even if something happened, I wouldn't make you responsible. Just visiting me would make me happy."

Katherine turned to look out the window, not responding.
