Chapter 505 You Must Help Me

Hearing Alice's words, Scarlett glanced at Charles who was seated in the back, and then they exchanged a knowing look.

Scarlett moved to sit next to Charles.

Charles was quiet but as soon as he saw her coming, he instinctively shrank to the side. Now, he had no other illusions about this mother besides fear and terror.

Scarlett secretly reached out and pinched Charles' arm forcefully. Hearing Charles cry out in pain, she asked loudly, "Charles? Charles, what's wrong?"

Then, she touched Charles' forehead, pretending to be worried. "Oh my? Why is it so hot?" she claimed with a hint of concern in her tone.

Alice cooperated by asking, "What's going on? Is Charles having a fever?"

Scarlett nodded in understanding. She exclaimed frantically, "Mom! It is! What should we do?"

Alice followed up, "What else can we do? Go to the hospital! Quick! Charles has a fever. Turn around and take us to the hospital!"

The servants hesitated to follow their orders.

Alice frowned and said sternly, "Charles has a fever. What are you still considering? Although he is adopted, he is now recognized as our member. If anything happens to his health, can you be held accountable?"

The servants looked at each other worriedly.

One of the servants said, "Madam, there's a township hospital not far ahead. Should we take Charles there first?"

Alice got anxious. "What? A township hospital? Are you suggesting we take Charles to such an unqualified hospital? What if he's misdiagnosed, and it delays his treatment? Will you be accountable for it?" she retorted.

The servants thought for a moment and had no choice but to turn around and head to the city hospital.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the city hospital, registered for an emergency, while Scarlett and Alice carried Charles into the examination room.

The servant who came in to assist waited at the door of the examination room. But after waiting for a long time, he didn't see them come out.

So, the servant went into the examination room to check, only to see the doctor attending to another patient, with no sign of them.

Seeing someone barging into the examination room, the doctor was displeased and said, "Who let you in? Go outside and wait in line, one by one!"

The servant questioned the doctor, "Where are the people who just came in with a child?"

The doctor frowned and said, "Are you talking about those two women? They asked me to give their child a fever-reducing shot. I arranged for them to wait in the injection area behind the curtain. After I prepared the injection, I lifted the curtain, and they were gone!"

The servant looked behind the curtain and saw an open window. The emergency room was on the first floor, and the other side of the window led directly outside the hospital!

The servant immediately felt something was wrong and quickly called the Mitchell Mansion to report the situation.

Scarlett and Alice, carrying Charles, ran out of the hospital and quickly hailed a taxi.

Once in the car, Scarlett finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Mom, where are we going now?"

Alice said, "I have an apartment that's vacant, and they don't know about it. We'll go there to settle down and then plan our next move."

Scarlett nodded in agreement. She was also tired and just needed a place to rest.

She had been worried about going to a hotel, as staying there would leave a record that the Mitchell family could find them and send them back to the countryside.

At this moment, Charles was nestled in her arms, sobbing. He didn't understand what was happening, but the sense of instability made him very scared. He didn't dare to cry out loud and tried hard to hold back his tears.

But how could Scarlett not hear his crying?

Since she realized that Charles was no use to her, Scarlett saw him as a burden, with no patience or love left. "Why are you crying? So annoying!"

Charles didn't know what he had done wrong and looked at her with anxious, pleading eyes. He cried out to her, "Mom, Mom."

Scarlett said disdainfully, "Don't call me Mom. I'm not your mom! I'm telling you, the fact that I haven't abandoned you and still take care of your food and drink every day is already very kind of me! You better not cause any trouble, or I'll throw you out of the car right now!"

With that, she stopped holding him, thinking of him as a nuisance, and put him aside to sit by himself!

Charles felt wronged but didn't dare to cry, forcing himself to hold backhis tears.

They arrived at the apartment Alice had bought under someone else's name.

Scarlett went to take a shower to relax and calm down, then joined Alice to discuss their next steps.

When she came out of the bathroom, she saw her phone vibrating. Scarlett looked at it with a bit of annoyance; it was her foolish friend Sophie calling.

Sophie had said she would help her get rid of Katherine. But so much time had passed without any action. She was utterly unreliable!

Scarlett proceeded to dry her hair and didn't answer the call.

After drying her hair, she saw the phone still vibrating, and Sophie  was still calling.

Scarlett finally answered the call impatiently, "Hello?"

Sophie's voice was anxious and frantic, "Scarlett, why did you take so long to answer the phone?"

Scarlett said, "Sophie, I was in the shower and didn't hear it. What's up? Why are you calling me?"

Sophie's voice was trembling, "Scarlett, you have to help me. Only you can help me now."

Scarlett frowned in annoyance. She was already in trouble herself; how could she have time to help Sophie?

"What happened?" Scarlett asked.

Sophie sighed deeply. She explained, "Didn't I say I'd help you get rid of Katherine? I paid someone to watch her and wait for a chance to run her over. He took the money and agreed. Yesterday, he finally found a chance to hit her with a van. But today, Alex found the driver, and his guys beat him up. He confessed everything about me! What should I do? Alex will come after me! Scarlett, you have to talk to Alex for me. You're my only hope."

After hearing Sophie out, Scarlett was a bit surprised and confused. She asked Sophie, "That guy hit Katherine yesterday? Then why is she perfectly fine today?"

Sophie said, "He didn't hit Katherine because Bernard was with her at the time and protected her. So, the guy hit Bernard instead. Bernard got hurt, while Katherine is fine."
