Chapter 644 Pretending to Be Affectionate
Katherine said, "Sophia, are you pretending to beg me now? Would it be too heartless of me if I don't go?, right?"
Sophia was totally speechless after that. She handed the invite to Leander, who was just chilling nearby. Then she turned back to Katherine, saying, "Katherine, I really do want you to come. Maybe I rushed things and ticked you off. My bad. Alex's buddies will be there too for my birthday. I hope you can make it. I'm out."
After that, she turned around and gave Leander a heads-up, "Leander, make sure you look after Katherine for Alex."
Leander nodded. "Got it."
Sophia smiled, grabbed her bag, and bounced.
Leander didn't walk her out, because he didn't wanna piss off Katherine. He held the invite, looking all confused. "Mrs. Melville, honestly, Ms. Coleman and Mr. Melville are just regular friends. Don't get the wrong idea. Sophia grew up abroad and is more chill, but she's cool. She met Mr. Melville while studying overseas."
Katherine shot back, "Friends? Does Alex usually registered for marriage with a regular friend?"
Leander was floored. "So you know. Actually, that's because..."
Katherine cut him off, "No need to explain. Whatever the reason, I don't care anymore!"
With that, Katherine stormed off to her room and slammed the door. Leander just stood there, letting out a big sigh.
Katherine went back to scrolling through baby stores online, but she was more pissed off than before. Even the cute little outfits didn't do it for her anymore.
A lie's a lie, no matter the reason. Whether Alex and Sophia hooked up or not didn't matter anymore. She was done with a big fat liar.
Later that evening, Frank and Ambrosia came back and found the invite Sophia had left.
Teresa and Sunny were there too, and the four of them started talking about what the invite meant.
Teresa said, "I know Sophia. She's Alex's college buddy. Word is she helped Alex a lot, so he sees her as a friend. There's nothing romantic, I swear!"
Sunny chimed in, "What are you swearing on? You didn't go abroad with Alex. Did you see everything? I think Alex might've had a thing for Sophia!"
Teresa shot Sunny a look. "Stop talking crap! Alex's first love is Katherine!"
Sunny said, "Alex is so hot. You really think he stayed single till almost thirty? There must've been tons of girls after him, wanting to hook up. He might've hooked up with someone."
Teresa put her hands on her hips. "Tons of girls after him, wanting to hook up? You talk like you know all about it. Been there, done that?"
"Don't you dare slander me!" Sunny shot a worried glance at Ambrosia, but she was just scrolling through her phone, not paying attention.
Teresa rolled her eyes. "Oh, so you don't like being slandered, but it's cool to slander Alex?"
Sunny snapped back, "You..."
Frank chuckled, "Alright, enough! Both of you, cut it out! I think this invite is a straight-up declaration of war against Katherine!"
Teresa and Sunny turned to Frank, saying together, "A declaration of war?"
Frank grinned. "Yep. Alex organized this birthday bash. She is here to show off in front of Katherine, to let her know Alex cares and is willing to throw a party for her."
Teresa and Sunny exchanged looks, thinking Frank might be onto something.
Leander, who had been eavesdropping at the door, couldn't take it anymore. He stepped in to clear things up, "Don't get it twisted. Mr. Melville just helped Ms. Coleman by inviting some friends to support her. Ms. Coleman is handling the party's expenses and venue herself."
Frank, Teresa, and Sunny all looked at Leander.
Even Ambrosia glanced up from her phone.
Teresa was the first to speak, "If they're just friends, why would Alex help her invite people? Doesn't he know his status? Helping a girl like this will cause all sorts of misunderstandings! Isn't he worried Katherine will get mad?"
Sunny added, "Exactly! Girls are super jealous. It's one thing to have female friends, but helping them this much? No wonder Katherine's pissed. Unlike me, since I started dating Ambrosia, I haven't talked to any female classmates."
Ambrosia said, "No one asked you to do that!"
Sunny, with a smug look and a bit of flattery, said, "I'd do it even if you didn't ask because I like you!"
Ambrosia couldn't take it anymore and stood up. "You guys chat, I'm gonna check on Katherine."
With that, she left.
Sunny said, "Ambrosia's shy again!"
Teresa rolled her eyes in disdain.
Frank smiled, took a sip of coffee, and raised an eyebrow at Leander. "So, is Alex gonna show up at Sophia's birthday party?"
Leander nodded honestly. "Mr. Melville will probably make an appearance."
Frank laughed sarcastically. "The most annoying thing is his serious and affectionate act, but he might be messing around with other women on the side."
Leander frowned. "That's not true! I've been with Mr. Melville for years, and I can vouch he rarely talks to women. He's helping Ms. Coleman because she's assisting him with something important!"
Frank asked curiously, "What important thing?"
Leander looked serious. "I can't disclose that."
Frank chuckled, "You're hiding something. Let Alex and Sophia be together. Stop bothering Katherine. And you, don't come to our house anymore."
