Chapter 462 Jealousy
Katherine's face stayed neutral. She didn't react to the recent incident and just smiled politely. "I was chatting with a friend. I didn't know you and Grandpa were coming back today, or I would've stayed home to wait for you."
Sandra shook her head. "It's fine, Katherine. We decided to come back last minute and didn't tell anyone. Even Alex doesn't know we're back yet!"
"You must be tired from going out. Go upstairs and rest. Alex will be back soon, and I'll cook something nice for you!"
Katherine nodded. "Okay. Thanks, Grandma."
She was pretty tired. Ever since she got pregnant, her energy levels had dropped.
Sandra told her to rest, and she didn't argue. She should've stayed downstairs with her grandparents, but it seemed Sandra didn't want her to.
Halfway up the stairs, Katherine glanced back and saw Sandra frowning as she whispered something to Jackie, probably telling him to keep quiet.
Katherine's eyes darkened a bit, and she continued upstairs to her room.
It seemed the Melville family's situation was complicated, and maybe that's why Alex didn't want to get a marriage license with her.
Back in her room, Katherine felt exhausted. She lay down but couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tried.
She didn't know how much time had passed when the door opened, and Alex walked in.
Seeing her with her eyes closed, he walked over and tucked her in, but his movements woke her up.
Alex paused, then sat by the bed and asked gently, "Did I wake you?"
Katherine stared at him. "I wasn't asleep."
Alex lightly tapped her face. "Pretending to sleep?"
Katherine frowned. "No, I wanted to sleep but couldn't."
Alex asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Katherine sat up, leaning against the headboard. "I'm not unwell. Maybe I slept too much last night."
Alex relaxed a bit and asked, "Where did you go today?"
Katherine replied flatly, "Nowhere."
Alex frowned. "You clearly went out. Why won't you tell me?"
Katherine met his eyes. "Do I have to report everywhere I go? You don't tell me your schedule either."
Alex was taken aback, then smiled. "Do you want me to report my schedule to you every day?"
Katherine didn't smile. "No need, I don't care."
Alex squinted, sensing something was off. "Are you in a bad mood? Why are you talking to me like this?"
Katherine was indeed in a bad mood. She frowned at Alex. After a moment of silence, she said, "Alex Melville."
His eyes widened. This was probably the first time Katherine had called him by his full name.
Generally, calling someone by their full name meant something serious.
Alex picked up on this and got serious too. "What's wrong?"
Katherine stared into his eyes. "Are you hiding something from me?"
Alex's expression faltered for a moment, then he composed himself. He cupped her face. "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
Katherine didn't avoid his hand or show any emotion. "I had a dream where you deceived me. It was awful. So, are you hiding something from me? Are you lying to me?"
Alex remembered her nightmare from last night and sighed. "You're still upset about that dream. It was just a dream, don't overthink it."
Katherine's face remained calm. "Alex, answer me directly. Are you hiding something or lying to me? If you tell me the truth now, I promise not to be angry. But if I find out later, there will be no chance for us."
Alex was puzzled by her attitude. "I am not."
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure?"
Alex paused for a couple of seconds, then nodded. "Yes."
Katherine stared at him, her expression unreadable, and stayed silent for a long time.
Alex's hand slid from her cheek to her chin, gently pinching it. He leaned in to kiss her.
Katherine turned her face away. "Alex, your grandparents are back today; you better behave!"
Frustrated, he leaned in again, pressing his forehead against hers. "You won't let me kiss you? You went to the Mitchell Group to see your brother today. Why didn't you come to see me?"
Katherine was surprised he knew but quickly realized it wasn't surprising. In Janetrick, Alex could find out anything.
In a bad mood, she didn't ask how he knew. She let him press his forehead against hers but avoided his eyes. "I haven't acknowledged Bernard as my brother. Don't randomly assign me a brother!"
Alex seemed dissatisfied. He pinched her chin, lifting her face to look at him. "You don't acknowledge him as your brother, but you let him hold your hand?"
His words were full of jealousy.
Katherine frowned. "He just grabbed my hand suddenly. How do you know about that?"
Alex answered, "Scarlett took a photo and sent it to me."
Katherine snorted. "You know she's not your savior, yet you two are still in contact!"
Seeing her anger, Alex smiled. "Katherine, you know how to get jealous too?"
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Why would I be jealous?"
"Of course, you're jealous of me!"
"Tell me, why did you go to see Bernard but not me?"
"I was afraid of disturbing you."
"I'm not."
