Chapter 516 Knocked Out
At that moment, in another hospital room.
Sandra woke up from her coma, her head throbbing. She squinted her eyes and looked around, finally seeing Jackie and Fiona by her side.
Seeing her grandmother awake, Fiona tightly grasped Sandra's hand, her eyes reddening with emotion. "Grandma! You're finally awake! You suddenly fainted just now, and it scared Grandpa and me to death!"
Jackie, clearly relieved, frowned and said something unpleasant, "You! I told you not to come to the hospital, but you insisted. And now look, you've just caused more trouble!"
Sandra didn't care about Jackie's words. She couldn't remember why she had fainted, but she did recall the reason she had come to the hospital. She quickly sat up, grabbing Fiona's hand and asked, "Fiona, how is Katherine? And what about the baby?"
Fiona looked troubled and sad, not knowing how to answer Sandra's question. She was afraid that telling the truth would upset her, so she looked to Jackie for help.
Jackie knew what Fiona was worried about and deliberately grumbled, not answering her directly. "The first thing you do when you wake up is worry about others. You should worry about your condition first!"
Sandra wasn't easily fooled. She shook her head in refusal and insisted, "I'm fine, just a bit dizzy! Jackie, Fiona, you two answer me! How is Katherine and the baby? Are they okay?"
Fiona remained silent.
Although Jackie was in a wheelchair, his arms were long enough to push Sandra back onto the bed. He tried to distract her by saying, "Alright, alright! I think you're still very weak. Don't worry about others for now! Rest well. When the doctor comes to check your blood pressure and heart, if everything is fine, we'll talk about other things at home!"
Sandra frowned and sat up again. "I know my own body. I'm fine! Besides, how can Katherine be considered 'others'? She's the granddaughter-in-law of the Melville family, and she's carrying the next generation of the Melville family! How can I not be worried?" she said stubbornly.
Jackie furrowed his brow and deliberately put on a stern face. He spoke harshly, "How do you know the baby Katherine is carrying is Alex's? I heard that before we came back, she had left the Melville family for a while. She got pregnant shortly after returning. Who knows whose child it is? Fiona, isn't that right?"
Jackie's question caught Fiona off guard. She didn't doubt that the baby Katherine was carrying was Alex's. After spending time with Katherine recently, she had fully accepted her as a sister-in-law. But now, with Jackie’s insinuations...
Jackie aimed his words at sowing doubt in Sandra's mind about Katherine, hoping to soften the blow of the truth.
Fiona understood Jackie's intention, but she was reluctant to tarnish the memory of the late Katherine. That was until Jackie cleared his throat and glared at her.
She said reluctantly, "Grandma, Katherine did leave Alex for a while... and she seemed to have a lot of male friends..."
In the end, for Sandra's health, she had to go along with Jackie.
With Fiona's cooperation, Jackie continued, "See! Even Fiona knows that Katherine wasn't short of male company," Jackie pressed on. "Who knows what she did during that month away from Alex? Sandra, people aren't always what they seem. I think you shouldn't trust Katherine too much. We can find another granddaughter-in-law. There are plenty of women out there who are willing to have children for Alex! We won't have any trouble having great-grandchildren!"
After Jackie finished speaking, Sandra's frown deepened. She realized something and asked, "You two, be honest with me. Did something happen to Katherine?"
Fiona was speechless, anxious on what to say next.
It seemed that Jackie's tactic didn't work. They couldn't hide it from Sandra!
Jackie frowned helplessly and tried to persuade Sandra. "Even if something happened to her, it has nothing to do with our family. She and Alex never got their marriage certificate, so she wasn't officially the Melville family's granddaughter-in-law! Don't take it too seriously!"
Sandra guessed the outcome and couldn't contain her worry. She threw off the blanket and got out of bed despite their attempts to stop her. "If you two won't tell me, I'll ask the doctor myself. I'll go see for myself..." she said with determination.
Jackie, sitting in a wheelchair, couldn't stop her. He quickly instructed Fiona, "Fiona, hurry! Bring your grandmother back. She can't go! The doctor said if she gets another shock, her heart condition will worsen!"
Fiona snapped out of her daze and quickly ran out to chase after Sandra...
Sandra ran out of the room without even putting on her shoes, heading straight for the emergency room...
Fiona caught up in time, bringing a few house staff members to help carry her grandmother back to the room. She ignored Sandra's struggles and scolded her.
Now that Katherine's death now a reality, Sandra's health couldn't withstand any more shocks.
Once Sandra was back in the room, Jackie called for the doctor, who administered a sedative to keep Sandra from dwelling on distressing thoughts.
Meanwhile, outside the emergency room.
Scarlett said many comforting words to Alex, but he remained unresponsive as if his soul had been taken away.
Although she was secretly pleased about Katherine's death but was genuinely worried that Alex might suffer a mental breakdown...
Was Katherine really that important to Alex? Was her death so hard for him to accept? She was just a woman he had known for a few months!
There were so many women in the world! Why couldn't Alex look at her?
Scarlett attempted to shake him again. "Alex, say something to me. Don't make me worry..."
Alex still he didn't respond, Sophie approached, suggesting "Scarlett, maybe you should let Alex have some quiet time? Why don't you comfort Bernard? He doesn't seem to be doing well either..."
Sophie’s implication was clear. Since Alex wasn't listening , Scarlett should focus on Bernard to improve her standing with him...
Hearing Sophie's voice, Scarlett looked up, understanding at her best friend's silent plea.
Sophie used her eyes to communicate with Scarlett, hoping she would understand and talk to Bernard...
Unexpectedly, after standing up, Scarlett raised her hand and slapped Sophie hard!
This was the second slap Sophie had received today!
And this one hurt more than the one from Bernard, leaving Sophie completely stunned. She looked at her best friend and asked in shock, "Scarlett? What are you doing?"
