Chapter 622 Abnormal Thought
Sophia tossed the lipstick back in her bag like it was no big deal. She glanced up and caught Katherine's confused look, then burst out laughing. "Ms. Galatea, you seriously don't buy what I'm saying?"
Katherine chucked the paper towel into the trash. "You really think I should? No wife is thrilled to see her hubby cozying up with another chick, right?"
Sophia shrugged, all nonchalant, then nodded. "Yeah, it bugs me a bit. But I see the bigger picture. Ms. Galatea, if you never showed up again, Alex would always have this spot for you in his heart, always wondering where you are. I'd never get him to forget you. But if you two meet, you'll probably get sick of each other eventually. Then, I won't have to lift a finger, and Alex will be with me again. We'll live happily ever after."
"So that's your game plan." Katherine eyed Sophia with a bit of respect, thinking her moves were way slicker than Scarlett's.
Sophia grinned. "Exactly. I don't care how many women Alex has been with; I only care about who sticks around. I know I'll be the one with Alex in the end, and Ms. Galatea, you're just passing through."
Katherine replied, "Yeah, the one who's gonna be with Mr. Melville forever is definitely you. Even if it's not you, it sure as hell won't be me. I'm over him."
Sophia stepped closer to Katherine. "But you're carrying his baby!"
She reached out and placed her hand on Katherine's belly without asking, giving it a gentle rub.
Katherine stepped back, wary. "The baby is mine. It has nothing to do with Alex!"
Sophia smiled sweetly. "Ms. Galatea, don't get me wrong. I don't have any hidden agenda. I just love kids and hope your baby is born safe and sound."
Katherine thought Sophia's ideas were a bit off, but then she figured Sophia might be another one of Alex's victims, tricked into marrying him.
With that in mind, Katherine firmly stated, "Of course, my baby will be born safely. I'll raise him myself and won't let anyone else get involved."
Sophia shook her head. "No way. Since it's Alex's kid, it should be raised by the Melville family. I'm sure I can be a great stepmom and take good care of Alex's child."
Not wanting to waste more time with Sophia, Katherine sidestepped her and hurried out of the restroom, only to bump into Alex in her rush.
"So clumsy!" Katherine's heart skipped a beat at the sound of Alex's familiar voice. She looked up to see him staring down at her with disdain.
She instinctively took a step back. "Sorry, I didn't see you there."
Alex grabbed her chin. "Not watching where you're going, Ms. Galatea? What's on your mind?"
Katherine didn't like him touching her and slapped his hand away. "Nothing. Mr. Melville, keep your hands to yourself. If you have something to say, just say it, don't touch me."
Alex's eyes narrowed as Katherine slapped his hand away. "Katherine, do you even know that I..."
"Alex, are you here to use the restroom too?" Sophia popped out of the restroom, all smiles.
Alex stopped mid-sentence.
Sophia walked over to Katherine and casually linked arms with her. "Alex, Ms. Galatea and I just had a little chat in the restroom. Don't worry, I'll help her find Mrs. Melville. You go ahead and do your thing."
Alex shot Sophia a cold, dark look but didn't say anything. He turned and walked into the restroom.
As soon as Alex was out of sight, Katherine yanked her arm back from Sophia, dusted off her sleeve, and started walking away.
Sophia trailed after her. "Ms. Galatea, it seems like Alex still has a thing for you."
Katherine snorted. "Really?"
Sophia nodded. "Of course. I've known Alex for over twenty years. I can tell if he's into someone. So, why don't you just make up with him?"
Katherine spun around, looking at Sophia like she was nuts. "As Alex's legal wife, you're asking me to patch things up with him?"
Sophia smiled, all generous-like. "Yes. I hope you can reconcile with Alex. I promise I won't be jealous."
Katherine rolled her eyes. "You're insane!"
She headed towards the restaurant entrance, but Sophia grabbed her arm. "Ms. Galatea, where are you going? Mrs. Melville is still waiting for you."
Katherine shook off Sophia's hand. "I'm done. I'm not going back. Tell Mrs. Melville goodbye for me."
With that, she started to leave again.
Sophia stepped in front of her. "I can't let you go. If I let you leave, Alex will think I drove you away on purpose."
Katherine smirked. "You think you didn't say anything?"
Sophia shrugged. "I just shared my thoughts and said I don't mind you reconciling with Alex temporarily. I didn't say anything to make you misunderstand, did I? If you leave like this, it'll make things tough for me."
Katherine's face turned icy. "That's disgusting enough! You two are a perfect match! One has a legal wife but pretends to be single to mess with others' feelings! The other pretends to be all cool, letting her husband go out and hurt others!"
Sophia laughed instead of getting mad. "Ms. Galatea, don't say that. Lots of girls would love to be 'hurt' by Alex but don't get the chance. And you even have his kid. I think he has been pretty good to you."
Katherine felt like she was going to be sick, her face dark with impatience. "Get lost!"
Sophia stood her ground. "No. I said I can't let you leave like this."
