Chapter 429 Scarlett, Go for a Checkup
Scarlett had to throw her mom under the bus to keep her own image squeaky clean.
If she didn't, both of them would be out of the Mitchell family.
She wasn't sure what Katherine was up to, but her explanation seemed like the best way to clear her name, so she decided to roll with it for now.
Katherine gently tucked a stray hair behind Scarlett's ear. "Yeah, I agree. Scarlett's amazing and kind. She almost died saving Alex and ended up infertile. How could someone so selfless do anything harmful?"
Katherine's creepy praise gave Scarlett chills. Her sudden defense felt really fishy.
Katherine looked worried and said, "I just remembered! You drank a big glass of pomegranate juice with too much saffron. Are you okay? Feeling sick?"
Scarlett was still wary but had to play along. She shook her head and said, "Thanks for worrying, Katherine. I'm fine. No discomfort."
Katherine still looked concerned. "But you can't be too careful! I read that too much saffron can be harmful even if you're not pregnant. You should get checked out."
Scarlett knew Katherine wasn't really concerned and politely declined. "Thanks, Katherine, but I'm really fine. No need for a check-up."
Katherine shook her head. "How can you be sure without a check-up? You drank a whole glass! Look at Sunny; he only drank half and got stomach bleeding! Better safe than sorry."
Scarlett didn't want a check-up and insisted. "No need! I'm really fine! Actually, I didn't drink much; I even threw up..."
She realized she said too much and clammed up.
But Katherine caught it. "Threw up? Scarlett, didn't you say you didn't throw up the juice? If you did, why? Did you know it was poisoned?"
Scarlett froze.
She quickly tried to cover up. "No... I didn't... I just felt like using the bathroom after drinking it. I think the toxins got expelled, so I'm fine."
Katherine, still concerned, furrowed her brows. "If you didn't throw up, you should still get checked out! Your body's already weak from saving Alex. If you're hurt again, it won't be good! Better get checked early for treatment!"
Scarlett was frustrated but couldn't show it. Katherine was cornering her, but she still didn't want to agree to the check-up.
Katherine didn't wait for her consent and turned to the nearby doctor. "Doctor, please check her for excessive saffron consumption, especially focusing on gynecological issues. See if it caused any menstrual problems or excessive bleeding."
The doctor, who was about to leave, nodded. "Alright, Miss Mitchell, please come with me. I'll arrange a thorough check-up."
Scarlett's face went pale, and she shook her head. "I don't need it! I'm really fine, no check-up needed."
Katherine pulled her along with the doctor. "Scarlett, look at you! Your face is so pale, and you still say you're fine? It's just a check-up, not surgery. What are you afraid of?"
"I'm not afraid. I'm really fine, so I won't go..." Scarlett couldn't voice her concerns. She felt Katherine had bad intentions and feared falling into a trap.
At that moment, Bernard spoke up sternly, "Go get checked. There's no harm in it."
Scarlett tried to resist. "Bernard, I'm really fine. I don't feel unwell."
Bernard frowned. "Get checked to rule out any issues. Don't come home and then complain about feeling unwell!"
He had lost much of his patience with Scarlett. He used to project his affection for his long-lost sister Laura onto her, but now that Laura was back, that affection naturally returned to his real sister.
Despite his impatience, she was still his weak half-sister, and he cared.
Scarlett often complained about feeling unwell, so a check-up would prevent her from falling ill later!
With Bernard's insistence, Scarlett had no reason to refuse and reluctantly followed the doctor.
Katherine waved cheerfully. "Scarlett, cooperate with the check-up. For your health, listen to the doctor!"
Scarlett gritted her teeth in anger at Katherine's fake concern.
Damn Katherine, with her fake concern, who knew what she was plotting.
After Scarlett left with the doctor, Alice became the sole target of everyone's anger.
Bernard gave Alice a cold look. Out of respect for her as an elder and because Edwin was still present, he didn't pursue the matter on the spot.
He would wait until Sunny woke up and then settle the score!
Alice knew her situation was dire and was trying to find a way to turn things around.
As a stepmother with no standing in front of Bernard, she decided to approach Edwin instead.
"Edwin, listen to me..."
Edwin coldly waved her off. "Enough! Don't explain anything to me now. You better pray Sunny is okay, or the Mitchell family won't tolerate you either!"
