Chapter 124 Do You Have Anything to Ask?

For a long time, the man did not respond. Sophie complained again, "Alex, you know the situation of my family. If you withdraw your investment today, my family's business will be finished!"

Alex's tall and stern figure stood on the open-air balcony of the suite. He lit a cigarette without showing any emotion, looking down at the anxious Sophie. His tone was flat. "The Melville Group is not a charity. TheJones Company has been hopeless for a long time. The funds the Melville Group invests in the Jones Group shrink significantly every year. I turned a blind eye because of our long-standing friendship. Now, Ms. Jones, if you don't consider me a friend, then I have no reason to support your family anymore."

Sophie shook her head vigorously in fear, trying hard to explain, "Alex, that's not true! How could you think that? I do take you as my friend. We've known each other since we were kids. You are one of the most important friends in my life!"

Alex squinted his eyes and exhaled a thin stream of smoke expressionlessly. "Really? If we're friends, why do you keep targeting my wife?"

Sophie looked extremely embarrassed and guilty, but her eyes also showed a bit of defiance. "Alex, you are my friend, but Katherine isn't. I admit I can't stand her arrogant attitude, so I wanted to teach her a lesson."

Alex's eyes turned cold. "Who are you to teach my wife a lesson? If you dare to mistreat her, you are opposing me!"

His sudden harsh tone left Sophie stunned.

Then, Sophie timidly lowered her head and then said, "I'm sorry, Alex. I know I was wrong. I won't do it again! For the sake of our friendship, please don't withdraw your investment."

"Making light of my wife's safety, Ms. Jones, do you think I would still consider you a friend?" he sneered.

"Alex, are you really going to end our friendship because of Katherine? We've known each other for so many years," she questioned.

Alex's well-defined hand held a nearly burnt-out cigarette. He flicked the ash indifferently. "Ms. Jones, you should pray that my wife is fine. If Katherine so much as catches a cold or sneezes today, you and your Jones family will face consequences far worse than just losing the investment!"

Sophie's heart sank, her whole body stiffened, and the chill on her back instantly froze her body and mind! She had never seen Alex show such a fierce attitude towards her or any of their friends.

The term "Ms. Jones" was also very distant and cold, not something friends would use.

Alex was serious!

Sophie was very anxious and tried to evoke nostalgia in him again. "Alex, we've known each other for so many years. Don't treat me like this."

Having made himself clear, Alex didn't waste another word on Sophie. He extinguished the cigarette butt, turned, and walked towards the door, striding out of the suite.

Although this was Sunny's suite, Sunny had just run out, leaving only him and Sophie alone in the room. Staying longer was inappropriate, as it could easily cause unnecessary misunderstandings.

Watching Alex's tall and stern figure leave, Sophie felt utterly hopeless.

She knew Alex was a man of his word. At this point, there was no way to reverse his decision to withdraw the investment. But Sophie was still very unwilling and unconvinced!

Thinking about that, Sophie bit her lip and shouted at Alex's back. "Alex, wait! I have something else to say!"

Alex didn't stop; his steps were steady, and he didn't even turn his head.

Seeing this, Sophie had to run forward quickly, spreading her arms to block Alex's way, and asked excitedly, "Alex, I just have one more question! Have you forgotten your promise to the Mitchell family and Scarlett? Or are you just like other men, fickle and unfaithful?"

At the mention of Scarlett's name, Alex's cold face showed a slight hesitation. After a moment of silence, his long, narrow eyes deepened. "I haven't forgotten. What I said to Scarlett will always hold."

Sophie let out a mocking laugh and said, "Alex, even if you no longer consider me a friend, I hope you remember everything Scarlett has done for you! You can't betray such a good girl like Scarlett for someone like Katherine, who just showed up in your life!"

After saying this, Sophie turned and walked away, opening the suite door.

And then, she saw Katherine standing right at the suite door.

Katherine was silent.

Originally, she had heard what sounded like Alex and Sophie talking as she approached, so she quickened her pace to pass by the suite quickly, avoiding any suspicion of eavesdropping.

But just as she reached the door, Sophie opened it.

Now, it looked like she had been eavesdropping and didn't have time to leave, making it hard to explain!

Katherine forced an awkward smile, waved politely at Sophie and Alex inside the suite, and said, "Hi! If I say I was just passing by, would you believe me?"

Alex's brows furrowed deeply, his deep gaze fixed on her.

Sophie, coming back to her senses, looked at Katherine and curled her lips coldly. She deliberately turned her head to Alex and said meaningfully, "Alex, I believe you'll keep your word, and so does Scarlett!"

After speaking, Sophie moved to return to her suite. As she passed by Katherine, she paused and whispered in a voice only Katherine could hear, "Katherine, don't get too complacent! Scarlett will be back soon, and then you'll know who the most important woman in Alex's heart really is!"

Katherine's eyes flickered, but her expression remained indifferent.

Why should she care who the most important woman in Alex's heart was? It was none of her business!

So what if Scarlett come back? By then, her collaboration with Alex would be over, and they'd go their separate ways!

Sophie left.

Alex walked slowly to Katherine, looking down at her slightly damp, shiny hair. His brows furrowed, and in a somewhat lecturing tone, he said, "You ran out with your hair still wet. Where are you going now?"

Katherine sighed helplessly. Teresa had been blow-drying her hair halfway when Sunny came in, so of course, it wasn't dry yet!

"Your niece and your brother-in-law were arguing in our suite, so I came out for some peace. And I wanted to check on that unlucky bear!" she explained.

Brother-in-law?

She used that term to refer to Sunny, clearly indicating she knew something.

But Katherine was casually talking about something else.

Alex squinted his eyes. "Katherine, don't you have anything to ask me?"
