Chapter 900 We Are Just Classmates
Lillian instinctively looked up, "You actually brought them into the house; aren't you afraid your dad will find out?"
Sherry grabbed Lillian's arm and pulled her upstairs, saying as they walked, "That's why we need to deal with those two women before Dad gets back from his visit, so they won't dare come looking for him again! Hurry, Mom!"
Sherry unlocked the attic door, and Claire and Nora were still inside the room.
They had been trying to figure out how to escape, banging on the door and shouting to no avail, when the door suddenly opened.
Sherry brought Lillian in, crossed her arms, and nodded towards the two beautiful women inside, "Mom, these are the two women! I don't even know which one is Dad's old flame!"
Lillian looked at the two women in the room with hostility, genuinely feeling threatened by their beauty.
She had always thought she was well-maintained for her age, but seeing these two women shattered her confidence in her appearance instantly.
She absolutely couldn't let Joshua see these two women, or she would surely lose!
Lillian spoke warily, "You..."
"Sorry, my child needs to use the bathroom urgently. Could you please tell me where it is?" Nora interrupted Lillian, holding Linda's hand.
Lillian frowned, her eyes full of suspicion, and her mood worsened, "What?"
Nora could tell Lillian was displeased, but there was no time for anything else, "Sorry! My daughter really can't hold it any longer. Ma'am, could you please let me take her to the bathroom first? If she has an accident, it won't be easy to clean up, right?"
Lillian didn't want to agree, but seeing Linda really struggling and hopping from foot to foot, she hesitated with a hint of disdain.
Claire spoke up at this moment, "Let them go! I'm the one looking for Joshua, they just came with me."
Lillian looked up at Claire, finding her somewhat familiar, then looked down at Linda, examining her closely and deciding she didn't resemble Joshua, so she probably wasn't his illegitimate child.
So, she nodded, "Sherry, take them to the bathroom and keep an eye on them. Don't let them run off and get seen by your dad."
Sherry responded to Lillian and then disdainfully said to Nora and Linda, "Follow me!"
After Nora and Linda followed Sherry out, Lillian focused all her attention on Claire and asked warily, "You said you were looking for my husband Joshua. What do you want with him?"
Claire replied, "I'm looking for him, not you. I think you should let him come see me; at least he should be present."
Lillian said, "I've seen women like you before. You just want Joshua's money and to replace me, right? Let me tell you, stop dreaming! I've held my position in the Galatea family for years, and I'm not that easy to push around!"
Claire realized why they were locked up here; this mother and daughter thought they were here to steal a man.
Although her taste in men wasn't great, she had no such thoughts about Joshua.
Claire politely said, "Mrs. Galatea, you're overthinking this! I have no relationship with your husband; we were just classmates. I'm here today to ask him about some old matters, so there's no need for you to be so anxious."
Being called out for her anxiety made Lillian uncomfortable, feeling she had lost her composure, "Anxious? Who said I was anxious? What gave you that idea?"
Claire smiled, "If you're not anxious, why lock us up here and be so afraid of me seeing your husband?"
Lillian's face stiffened.
Claire didn't want to mock her; she just wanted to see Joshua and confront him about the past!
"Mrs. Galatea, I have no interest in your husband Joshua, you can rest assured! I just need to ask him something, and I'll leave once I get my answers!"
Lillian frowned and glared at her, seeing her calm demeanor, not like those two-faced women, thinking she might be telling the truth, but still unwilling to let her husband meet her due to her beauty.
After thinking for a long time, Lillian pulled a chair over and sat down, "My husband is not home. If you have something to ask him, you can ask me! I've been living with my husband all these years, I know everything about him! Just ask me directly!"
Seeing Lillian sit down, Claire thought Lillian probably didn't trust her to meet Joshua. Considering she said she had been living with Joshua all these years, Claire thought she might get some answers from her.
After a moment of thought, Claire sighed slightly and then said, "Alright, I'll ask you first, Mrs. Galatea. Did your family ever have a child named Katherine?"
Hearing this beautiful woman mention the name she hated most, Katherine, Lillian's eyes immediately widened, "You're here for Katherine? What's your relationship with Katherine?"
Claire replied, "Katherine is my daughter, my biological daughter."
Getting this answer, Lillian's face turned serious, full of suspicion, "So it's you! And you still dare say you have no relationship with Joshua? If you two have no relationship, why would Joshua raise your daughter? Isn't Katherine your illegitimate child with him?"
The term "illegitimate child" made Claire very uncomfortable, "Mrs. Galatea, please show some respect! Katherine is my daughter, but she has nothing to do with Joshua! She's not the illegitimate child you mentioned!"
Lillian laughed mockingly, "I've always found it strange! If Katherine has nothing to do with Joshua, why would he bring her home and raise her as his daughter? I know Joshua very well; he's stingy. He wouldn't spend money to raise someone else's daughter for no reason! Stop pretending, you want to rekindle your old flame with Joshua; dream on!"
Claire felt speechless, thinking it was hard to explain.
"Mrs. Galatea, here's the situation. I encountered some difficulties back then and had no choice but to ask Joshua, my classmate, to look after my daughter temporarily. Of course, it wasn't for free; I gave him an antique necklace as a thank you."
"Moreover, as far as I know, Joshua hasn't treated my daughter well over the years and hasn't spent much money on her! I think you should know better than I do; if she were his biological daughter, would he have sent her to the countryside? I'm here to ask him about my daughter, not for the reason you think, I swear."
