Chapter 1035 A Great Opportunity
"Ah, it's Grandma. Ms. Pearl, please make yourself at home and eat more later." Christina pursed her lips, maintaining a calm expression on her face.
Virginia smiled and raised her eyebrows, "I'll! Mrs. Mitchell's cooking is something I definitely want more of! She has always been so kind to me. When I was little, I often came to the Mitchell Mansion to play with Bernard, and Mrs. Mitchell would often buy us candy!"
Indeed.
Virginia and Bernard grew up together, so Hellen must have known her for a long time.
Moreover, she looked so beautiful now; she must have been very pretty and cute as a child.
Facing such an adorable girl, Hellen must have liked her a lot.
It was just unclear why Hellen didn't match them together.
If the two of them were together, she wouldn't have to be acting here now!
Christina couldn't figure it out and didn't want to think about it anymore.
"Ms. Russell, you and Bernard have been married for a while now. You must have tasted Mrs. Mitchell's cooking, right?"
Virginia closely watched her expression, noticing a flash of awkwardness on her face, and pretended to be surprised, covering her mouth, "Oh my! Christina, really? After all this time, Mrs. Mitchell hasn't cooked for you?"
Christina frowned. She could tell that Virginia was subtly showing off her close relationship with Hellen.
Fine, let them be close. It has nothing to do with her!
Christina smiled faintly, "Since you and Grandma are so close, you should have a good chat with her later. I'm a bit tired, so I'll go rest in my room first. Excuse me."
With that, Christina went upstairs.
She was really tired and a bit irritated.
Virginia watched Christina's back as she went upstairs, a hint of jealousy flashing in her eyes.
She could openly go to Bernard's room. Why? Did she deserve it?
Virginia had nothing to say to Hellen!
She did grow up with Bernard, but her family's status was nowhere near the Mitchell family. Their grandparents were just distant friends.
The key point was, Hellen didn't like her from a young age and often stopped her from playing with Bernard.
Later, when she entered the entertainment industry and needed connections, she would seek Bernard's help.
Although Hellen never said anything openly, Virginia knew it was Hellen who spread the word that the Mitchell family would never allow a woman from the entertainment industry to marry in!
That rule was clearly aimed at her!
Now Christina was also in the entertainment industry, acting, and Hellen hadn't kicked her out!
Virginia sat on the sofa, starting to think about her next move.
She rarely got a chance to come to the Mitchell Mansion; she couldn't waste such a great opportunity!
"Bernard, you're back."
Christina hadn't reached the room when she heard a joyful voice from downstairs.
She paused and turned her head.
Downstairs, Virginia saw Bernard return and ran towards him, "You're finally back. I've been waiting for you for so long!"
Bernard saw Virginia, his eyes darkening with surprise, "What are you doing here?"
Bernard had no idea Virginia was coming over for dinner.
"Your grandma invited me for dinner. I thought she would tell you!" Virginia glanced at Christina standing at the staircase and immediately reached out to help Bernard take off his coat, "Here! Take off your coat; it's warm inside. I'll hang it up for you."
Virginia acted like the lady of the Mitchell family, waiting for Bernard to come home from work and helping him with his coat.
"No need."
Bernard turned slightly, avoiding her hand without a trace.
Christina, standing on the stairs, saw this and felt a mix of emotions, silently returning to her room.
Let them flaunt their sweetness downstairs. If they weren't afraid of Hellen finding out about the fake marriage, let them flaunt it. It wasn't her problem if it got exposed!
Bernard changed his shoes with the help of a servant and turned to Virginia, "How long have you been here?"
"For quite a while!" Virginia blushed shyly, "Bernard, Mrs. Mitchell is so kind to me. She even cooked dinner herself. I wanted to help, but she wouldn't let me!"
"If Grandma invited you, make yourself at home. Sit here for a while; I'll go upstairs and change." Bernard said absentmindedly and went upstairs.
He had seen Christina go upstairs earlier.
Although Virginia didn't manage to take off his coat, their actions were somewhat ambiguous, and Christina might have misunderstood.
Bernard went upstairs and pushed the door open.
As soon as he entered, he saw Christina coming out of the bathroom, wrapped only in a towel, her exposed shoulders smooth and delicate.
Christina didn't expect him to come upstairs. Seeing him, she instinctively pulled the towel up and covered her chest, "You... why are you here?"
Bernard snapped out of it and said sarcastically, "This is my room. Is it strange for me to come in?"
Christina wanted to retort but felt he had a point.
This was indeed Bernard's room; he had every right to come in!
She had seen Virginia and Bernard being so close earlier, thinking they would chat downstairs for a while and not come up so soon. So she came out without changing after her bath!
Who would have thought Bernard would come up so quickly, leading to this awkward situation?
Christina pouted, not wanting to face Bernard like this. She quickly grabbed her clothes from the bed and went back to the bathroom to change.
After changing, Christina came out, drying her hair with a towel, "Ms. Pearl is still downstairs. Why did you come up so soon? Shouldn't you keep her company?"
"Why? Do you want me to stay with Virginia?" Bernard squinted at her as she dried her hair.
Christina sat at the vanity, brushing her hair, not wanting to look at his cold face!
Seeing them together earlier made her uncomfortable, feeling like Bernard was cheating!
"No, I just thought you two were having a good conversation and would chat for a while longer." Christina forced a smile, "So, I thought I'd be considerate and stay in the room, not to disturb you!"
Hearing this, Bernard's face darkened.
