Chapter 283 Ms. Mitchell's Real Colour
Scarlett watched Katherine fumbling with the computer, feeling zero fear. She just found Katherine utterly ridiculous.
The memory card from the private room's surveillance had already been destroyed. No matter how much Katherine fussed, what could she possibly retrieve?
Plus, Alex had been sitting there the whole time, not saying a word in Katherine's defense. He was clearly disappointed in her.
Perfect. Her goal would be achieved as long as Alex believed Katherine harmed the child.
Feeling satisfied, Scarlett sighed outwardly in fake helplessness. With an innocent look, she walked to the counter and spoke softly, "Katherine, pretending to be righteous won't help you anymore. How long are you going to keep this up before you admit your mistake? If you confess now, I'll persuade Bernard to let you off."
Katherine didn't pay Scarlett any attention; she didn't even raise an eyebrow. She focused solely on the computer screen and swiftly hit the Enter key twice.
"Done!" Katherine extracted two segments of surveillance footage and waved to Bernard. "Mr. Mitchell, please come over and take a look!"
Bernard frowned, then walked over impatiently. "What do you want me to see?"
Katherine stood up and politely offered her boss Bernard a seat. "Mr. Mitchell, please sit down and take your time."
Bernard, already out of patience, sat down with a stern face, looking at the two video files on the computer screen, waiting to hear how Katherine would defend herself this time.
Katherine bent down beside the chair, adjusted the mouse, and played one of the video files.
She stated, "Mr. Mitchell, this nearly hour-long surveillance footage shows all the angles of the restaurant from the time Mr. Mostow, Mr. Melville, Miss Mitchell, and I entered until we left. I'll play it at high speed for you. You can see that I had no interaction with Bobby the entire time. We didn't even cross paths before he entered the private room to pour water, and I didn't ask him for any contact information when I left the restaurant."
Bernard frowned, watching the fast-forwarded footage on the screen, still skeptical.
Katherine added sharply, "Mr. Mitchell, rest assured, although the video is sped up, I haven't edited the footage. You can have your computer engineer check it later."
Bernard snorted. "Surveillance cameras have blind spots everywhere, Katherine. Do you really think this clears you of suspicion?"
Katherine smirked. "I know it's a stretch. That's why I need you to watch the next segment, which is less than ten minutes long."
She then moved the mouse and played another video file. "Mr. Mitchell, this footage is from the camera outside the restroom. You can see Scarlett calling over Bobby after leaving the restroom, and they talked for about five or six minutes. Mr. Mitchell, what do you think they were talking about?"
Seeing the second surveillance footage, Bernard's stern expression faltered, and he glanced at Scarlett, who was watching from the counter.
Scarlett's face stiffened, and her eyes flickered with guilt. She never expected Katherine to find footage of her talking to Bobby from that angle.
Katherine continued, "Mr. Mitchell, look closely. During their conversation, Miss Mitchell's hand clearly made contact with Bobby's hand."
Katherine rewound the footage by a few seconds and played it in slow motion, pointing out, "Look, their hand movements are obvious. Miss Mitchell took something from her pocket and secretly handed it to Bobby! Mr. Mitchell, do you think it's normal for two strangers to secretly exchange items while chatting?"
Katherine's tone carried a hint of sarcastic amusement, but she didn't overdo it, merely returning Bernard's earlier accusations.
Bernard watched the entire footage Katherine had extracted, his expression gradually hardening.
Then he stood up, looking deeply at his beloved Scarlett with a complex gaze.
Bernard inquired, "Scarlett, did you know this waiter beforehand?"
Scarlett, feeling guilty, put on her best innocent face, blinking her doe-like eyes and shaking her head. "Bernard, I, I didn't know him before!"
Bernard sternly questioned, "Then what were you talking about in the footage? What did you secretly give him? Explain it clearly!"
Scarlett, who had never been spoken to so harshly by Bernard, was genuinely scared, fearing she would lose his trust.
She knew Bernard hated lies!
Scarlett quickly put on a pitiful expression, her voice tinged with tears. "Bernard, I, I was just asking the waiter about the menu, nothing more."
Bernard's frown deepened, showing his clear dissatisfaction with Scarlett's explanation.
Katherine smiled. "Miss Mitchell, what kind of hobby is that, ordering food at the restroom door? So peculiar and for five or six minutes? What exactly were you ordering?"
Scarlett's expression became even more unnatural, but she quickly composed herself with innocence and pity, "Katherine, can you stop being so sarcastic? I just saw you struggling in the restroom and thought your stomach was upset, so I asked the waiter if there were any light and stomach-friendly dishes to add for you."
Katherine raised an eyebrow with a light laugh. "So, what did you end up ordering? I don't remember seeing any new dishes on the table."
Scarlett excused, "I didn't order anything because Bobby said we had already ordered too much and advised against wasting food, so I didn't order anything in the end!"
Katherine smirked. "Oh, so you talked to the waiter for five or six minutes and didn't order anything? Mr. Mitchell, what do you think?"
Bernard's expression darkened, filled with deep disappointment. He didn't respond to Katherine but sternly questioned Scarlett again, "Scarlett, what did you give Bobby?"
