Chapter 495 Don't Mess Around
Alex's eyes darkened. "Katherine doesn't want to acknowledge you. Even if she did, I wouldn't let her recognize the Mitchell family."
Bernard frowned. "Why? Are you afraid the conflict between the Melville and Mitchell families will affect your marriage with Katherine?"
Alex shook his head. "Outside conflicts won't affect us, but if she reconnects with the Mitchell family, things will get awkward with the Melvilles. I can't always protect her, and she won't always be with me. Given her rough childhood, it's best to keep things as they are."
Bernard thought for a moment and nodded. "For now, we stick with the status quo. But if you ever hurt her, the Mitchell family won't just stand by."
Alex took a confident sip of his drink. "You're overthinking it."
Soon, Billy arrived with the caregiver.
After Katherine gave Billy all the medical instructions, she left with Alex.
Billy was initially surprised to see Alex at Bernard's private residence, but seeing Katherine there made it less surprising.
This private residence was special to Bernard, and he rarely let outsiders in. Even Scarlett, whom Bernard had doted on since childhood, had never been there.
But Katherine was different. She was Bernard's full-blooded sister and the person he cared about most, so she was naturally allowed.
"Sir, how did you get such a bad injury on your foot? Has the vehicle responsible been caught? Should I send someone to investigate?" Billy asked.
Bernard replied, "Alex will look into that car. Billy, have you noticed any suspicious people around the Melville family lately?"
Billy shook his head. "No suspicious people so far."
Bernard narrowed his eyes. "Tell them to keep watching and not slack off!"
Billy answered, "Yes, sir!"
Three days later, Katherine held a press conference at Arborwood Grove.
She had Frank send invitations to major media outlets to cover the event.
The press conference was set for 8 AM, and by 7 AM, the park was already packed with media.
Katherine was actually an unknown "nobody." Before this news broke, there was no information about her online, and those who knew her were limited to the teachers and students at Janetrick University.
The reason so many media outlets showed up today was because of the online rumors that Katherine was Mrs. Melville of the Melville Group!
The Melville Group was the most powerful and wealthy group in Janetrick, and any news related to it was naturally a big deal.
In the morning, after Alex dropped Katherine off, he left for the company.
Frank and Ambrosia's car was parked nearby. Before the media noticed, Katherine found them and got into the car.
It was not yet 7:30 AM, and she didn't plan to get out of the car before the press conference started. Otherwise, she would be swarmed by the media.
Seeing Katherine get into the car, Frank and Ambrosia turned to look at the yawning Katherine.
Frank complained, "Katherine, why'd you come alone? Didn't the Melville family send anyone? Where's Alex?"
Ambrosia chimed in, "What's the Melville family thinking? Are they distancing themselves in case you fail?"
Katherine, still sleepy, shook her head. "It's not that deep. Alex dropped me off. I told him to go to work."
Frank frowned. "You told him to leave, and he just left? Does he even care about you? Leaving you alone with those media vultures?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I'll be at a disadvantage?"
Frank shrugged. "I know you won't be, Katherine. You're smart! But he doesn't know you like I do."
Katherine said, "What good would it do for him to stay? It'd just cause a media frenzy. Besides, keeping my connection to the Melville family low-key is better. If something happens to me, their stock might drop. Limit info on my ties to the Melville Group."
Frank thought about it and agreed. "Alright! I just feel like you're still carrying the burden yourself, just like before. It's tough!"
Katherine glanced at him. "Mind your own business! How's the thing I asked you to do last time?"
Frank smiled knowingly. "Katherine, you always have tasks for me. Which one are you talking about?"
Katherine's eyes sharpened. "Don't play dumb! Is Teresa still working at the company?"
Frank spread his hands. "Yes, she is!"
Katherine narrowed her eyes. "What position?"
Frank smiled. "Just... my little secretary..."
Katherine frowned. "You ignored my words and kept her around to play?"
Frank waved his hands. "No, no! Katherine, I wouldn't dare mess with your niece! I kept her close on purpose!"
Katherine glared. "What's your plan?"
Frank sighed, both annoyed and self-satisfied. "You told me to make Teresa dislike me without hurting her self-esteem. So, I let her see my flaws up close. This way, she'll quit on her own. If I fired her, she wouldn't give up. No woman would willingly let go of someone as charming as me."
His words earned skeptical looks from the two girls in the car.
Katherine asked again, "How are you letting her see your true colors?"
Frank smiled mischievously, covering his face shyly. "Well... I'm too shy to say!"
Katherine remained silent.
Ambrosia, unable to stand his sleazy look, explained, "Katherine, he brings different women to the office every day and does some really inappropriate things.!"
Frank rolled his eyes. "Ambrosia, don't talk nonsense! Do you think I'd really mess around in the office? I'm just acting to let Teresa see!"
Ambrosia sneered. "You think just because you're acting, it means you're still pure?"
