Chapter 13 Katherine Turns Out to Be Wealthy
Sherry excitedly grabbed the coat and interrogated, "Katherine, tell the truth. Where did you get this piece of clothing? How did you manage to get involved with a man who can afford such expensive clothes?"
Katherine glanced at the two pieces of clothing, unimpressed. "Is this outfit expensive? It was lent to me by a man as a 'kind gesture,' and I don't even know him well!"
Seeing her seemingly unwitting, Sherry didn't think she was lying.
In a disdainful tone, she said, "I knew you couldn't possibly know men who wear such high-end clothes! Wash the clothes and return them to him. Don't even dream that you can be with wealthy men! Any man with taste wouldn't look at a woman like you, who comes from the countryside!"
Katherine laughed nonchalantly. "By the way, you didn't answer my question just now. Where is your husband?"
Sherry's face instantly darkened. Seeing that Katherine seemed unaware of the details, she arrogantly said, "I changed my mind yesterday and decided not to get married. I'm still single, without a husband!"
Curious, Katherine raised an eyebrow and asked, "You don't want to marry Mr. Melville anymore? Why? The Melville family is a top-tier family. Are you looking down on even top-tier families now?"
Sherry sneered, "What's so great about a top-tier family? I can easily get any man I want! Mr. Melville is almost thirty years old and has never dated any woman. He must have some disease or even erectile dysfunction! So, even if he's infatuated with me and begs me to marry him, I won't!"
Katherine wanted to laugh. She nodded and said, "Right. You have a point. Congratulations on dodging a bullet!"
After packing her belongings, Katherine went downstairs, bid Joshua farewell with a simple gesture, and then left the Galatea Manor with her suitcase.
Meanwhile, Sherry secretly followed the taxi that Katherine had taken. She wanted to see what kind of man would lend Katherine such an expensive custom-made coat.
A man who could afford such high-end designer clothes must be worth tens of millions of dollars!
Yesterday's wedding had made Sherry lose all her dignity. If she could meet a wealthy man, she could regain her confidence and pride in front of her relatives and friends!
The taxi stopped in a block of the old city.
Katherine got off and dragged her suitcase to a nearby street-side restaurant, where she ordered a hamburger and sat down to eat alone.
Not far away, Sherry sat in her car and sneered.
She thought, "Katherine was able to borrow such an expensive designer outfit, and I thought she would go to a nice restaurant. Turns out she chose a cheap little eatery. She really is a country girl who can't adapt to the life of the wealthy."
She was smiling when someone knocked on her car window.
Sherry rolled down the window and saw a serious-looking police officer.
"You can't park here! You've already violated the traffic rules. Please show me your driver's license and accept the fine," the officer said.
Sherry snorted, refusing, "What's the big deal about parking here when there are hardly any people around? I'm a public figure, and I parked here to avoid being recognized by my fans, which would cause traffic congestion. I'm actually lightening your workload. Don't you understand?"
The officer didn't listen to her. "It doesn't matter who you are. This is a pedestrian street, and nobody is allowed to park here. You're illegally parked. If you continue to refuse to cooperate with me, I will have your car towed according to regulations."
"What? How dare you!"
Sherry took off her sunglasses. "Take a good look at who I am! Do you know that I have millions of followers on Twitter? Be careful; I can rally them to complain about you!"
The officer didn't spare her a second glance and immediately picked up the walkie-talkie to call for a tow truck.
Sherry became extremely angry and started arguing with the officer, attracting a crowd of onlookers.
However, only a few recognized her, and everyone was criticizing her for her lack of manners.
Sherry felt extremely embarrassed and didn't dare to be arrogant anymore.
She could only watch as her car was towed away. Suddenly, she saw Katherine, who had finished her meal, coming out of the restaurant.
Sherry remembered her purpose and didn't have time to retrieve her car.
She quickly left the crowd and followed Katherine.
Katherine entered a large shopping mall in the old town and headed straight to a luxury brand store to pick out clothes.
Sherry, who was observing from a hidden spot, widened her eyes!
She thought, 'Katherine must have a problem!
Otherwise, where did she get the money to shop at a luxury store? And she's only choosing the most expensive clothes.'
When she saw Katherine finish selecting clothes and leave through the other door of the luxury store, Sherry also tried to follow.
But she was warmly greeted and stopped by the store manager. "Ms. Galatea, your clothes are ready for packaging. Will you be paying with cash or a card?"
Sherry was puzzled. "You've got it wrong. I just walked into your store!"
The manager smiled and said, "Aren't you the famous actress Sherry Galatea? Your assistant came earlier and selected the clothes for you according to your size. We've already packed them for you, so now you just need to make the payment."
Sherry frowned. "What are you talking about? I came alone, and I didn't ask my assistant to buy anything from your store!"
A few nearby staff members whispered to each other.
"Does she think the clothes are too expensive and she can't afford them?"
"She's wearing outdated styles from two years ago!"
"Other celebrities who come to our store are usually very generous, but Sherry seems a bit poor. I heard she quit the entertainment industry a few days ago, so she probably doesn't have much money."
Sherry glared and said, "Who said I can't afford them? I just don't like these styles!"
The clever store manager quickly responded, "Ms. Galatea, rest assured, these styles are all the latest of the season, personally designed by a famous fashion designer. They are absolutely fashionable. However, if you don't have that much money, then..."
"Who said I don't have money? I have plenty! I'll pay with my card!"
The discussions among the staff made the proud Sherry feel conflicted. She gritted her teeth and swiped her card, spending nearly ten thousand dollars.
She realized that Katherine had played her!
Sherry thought, 'Katherine must have discovered me following her a long time ago.
She might have even reported me, which is why the police came!
That damn Katherine!'
Sherry walked out of the luxury store with her shopping bags and quickly chased after Katherine, wanting her to stop and pay for the car.
But she was too late. Just as she left the mall, she saw Katherine getting into another taxi.
Sherry hurriedly hailed a taxi and followed her.
This time, Katherine arrived in the city center.
She got out of the car and dragged her suitcase into a grand mansion.
Sherry was shocked. The houses here were extremely expensive.
Only the wealthy and powerful could afford to live here!
Sherry thought, 'Katherine just walked in like that?
Did she really find an amazing man?'
At that moment, a black car pulled up and stopped at the entrance of the mansion.
Fiona was helped out of the car by several maids. She had just come back from the hospital after receiving an injection, and her face was still a bit pale.
Seeing someone approaching, Sherry walked over and asked, "Excuse me, may I know who lives here?"
Fiona glanced at Sherry's outdated clothes and said disdainfully, "Who are you? How dare you come here and inquire about our family?"
Sherry was taken aback. In front of Fiona, who was dressed in limited edition designer clothes, she clearly lacked confidence. She awkwardly smiled and said, "I'm looking for my sister. I just saw her entering this mansion..."
Fiona became impatient. "You're looking for your sister? Who is your sister?"
