Chapter 48 You Can't Escape
Fiona drove and secretly followed them to the police station.
Police station.
The officer handed the lost items to Katherine and said, "Please check if these are your lost phone and wallet. If they are, make sure nothing is missing inside."
Katherine cooperatively opened the wallet and checked, then examined the usage records on the phone. She confirmed, "Yes, these are all my belongings, and nothing is missing."
The officer nodded attentively. "Please sign here, and you can take your things. Remember, be more careful in the future. If you lose your belongings again, it won't be as easy to retrieve them as it was today."
Katherine smiled politely. "Alright, I will definitely be more careful. Thank you!"
At that moment, Sandra stood by her side, behaving like a well-mannered and kind elder, expressing gratitude to the police along with Katherine and praising their diligent work.
Alexander stood not far behind them. He had just hung up the phone, put down his mobile, and gazed gently at the harmonious scene of Katherine and Sandra being together.
Everything went smoothly. Katherine got her lost items, and while supporting Sandra, they walked out and discussed dinner plans.
"Grandma, what would you like to eat?"
"I'm fine with anything! Katherine, I'll accompany you to eat whatever you like!"
Katherine pondered for a moment, then turned to Alexander and asked, "Uncle, what would you like to eat? My treat!"
Alexander smiled and asked, "Are you really letting me choose?"
Katherine nodded generously and said, "Yes, really!"
Alexander wanted to tease her, so he said, "Then let's go to the K&H Restaurant. They have great meat there."
K&H Restaurant was a famous six-star restaurant, and it was very expensive!
Alexander was clearly trying to trick her!
Katherine ignored him and turned to Sandra, saying, "Grandma, I know a place that serves excellent steak! Would you like to give it a try?"
Sandra smiled and replied, "Sure, I also like steak. I'll go with you to try it."
Katherine obediently said, "Great, let's go now!"
Alexander felt helpless.
He thought, 'She let me choose, but then she ignores my opinion? She really has no sincerity.'
Even if she finds that place too expensive, how could I let her treat me when I'm around?'
As they were approaching the entrance of the police station, Fiona rushed in anxiously.
Upon seeing Fiona, Sandra was extremely surprised. "Fiona?"
Alexander frowned and coldly said, "Didn't I ask you to stay at home and reflect? Why did you follow us to the police station?"
Though Fiona was not afraid of Sandra's doting, she instinctively feared Alexander.
She didn't dare to directly state her reason for coming to the police station, afraid of being stopped by Alexander and Sandra. So she quickly bypassed them and walked into the police station, asking loudly, "I'd like to inquire, was a couple arrested for prostitution at the Melville Hotel today?"
The officer looked up at her and truthfully replied, "Yes, such an incident did happen. Do you have any questions?"
Fiona continued, "Can I see the woman who was arrested? I have a strong feeling that I might know her!"
She couldn't understand why the arrested woman should be Katherine, yet she safely returned home.
So she had to confirm. She needed to see with her own eyes that the woman was not Katherine in order to be certain!
However, the officer shook his head. "Unfortunately, the suspected woman played tricks and escaped during the detention. Our colleagues are currently in urgent pursuit of her!"
She did escape, after all!
Upon hearing the officer's words, Fiona's confusion suddenly cleared up!
She exclaimed excitedly, "I want to report! I know where that woman went!"
The police were surprised and said, "Do you really know? You can't joke about something like this!"
Fiona remained silent. She turned around and directly brought Katherine, who was being supported by Sandra, in front of the police, saying, "It's her! Please take a good look and see if she looks similar to the woman who escaped!"
Things happened so suddenly that Sandra regained her composure and immediately reprimanded, "Fiona! What are you doing?"
Fiona, however, said, "Grandma, don't worry. You will soon know the truth!"
The officer was somewhat surprised. He observed Katherine for a moment and said, "I wasn't involved in the arrest today, so I haven't seen the suspect until now. But, hearing what you said, I do find that she indeed resembles the woman in the enforcement records our colleagues reported. They have similar clothes, and their heights and body types seem to be alike."
Fiona smiled triumphantly and confidently said, "You can just arrest her! I'm sure that the woman in front of you is the one who escaped. The things found earlier were not accidentally dropped by her; she intentionally created that illusion. She did it to get rid of suspicion!"
The officer fell into deep thought.
Alexander stepped forward, looking at his troublemaking sister, and whispered, "Haven't you caused enough trouble at home?"
At this point, Fiona was extremely confident. "Brother, what I'm saying now is the truth! I just want you to see Katherine's true colors and not be deceived or misled by this cunning woman anymore!"
Alexander calmly instructed, "Leander, take her back home for now."
"Yes, Mr. Melville," Leander responded promptly.
However, Fiona suddenly hid behind the police. "I don't want to go home! I won't go back until Katherine is caught!"
Alexander signaled for Leander to take Fiona back.
Then he put his arm around Katherine's shoulder and led her away.
But the police quickly stepped forward, blocking their path, and said, "Wait! She can't leave temporarily."
Alexander asked, "Why can't she leave?"
The police scrutinized Katherine and became increasingly suspicious, explaining, "Katherine needs to stay here to cooperate with the police work. We received a report from the scene, and I need to verify the accuracy of her report so she cannot leave yet."
Upon seeing this, Fiona became even more certain. "Brother, the police said they need to verify. It proves that even the authorities find Katherine suspicious now!"
Alexander looked at Katherine.
