Chapter 318 Real Marriage or Fake Marriage

Katherine quickly caught on that Alex was hinting at something else. His intense stare made her feel uneasy.

"Mr. Melville, what... what are you talking about? Who would steal from the Melville family?"

She reached for the car door, desperate to leave.

But, as expected, it was locked. She couldn't open it.

Frustrated, she yanked at the handle. "Unlock the door! I want out!"

Alex leaned in, his warm breath on her neck. "If you didn't steal anything, why are you so flustered?"

Katherine felt a warm tingle on her neck and jumped. "What are you doing? Get away!"

Instinctively, she swung her hand to push him away but accidentally hit his injured left eye.

He groaned, covering his eye, his face twisted in pain.

Seeing this, Katherine panicked. "Uh... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! Are you okay?"

Alex covered his eye, but his face was dark with anger. He glared at her with his good eye. "What do you think?"

Katherine felt guilty. Her tone softened. "Sorry, does it hurt?"

Alex replied, "It hurts!"

For someone as tough as Alex to admit pain, it must be bad.

Could he go blind?

The more Katherine thought about it, the more worried she got. She turned to Leander, who was staring at them from the front seat. "What are you staring at? Drive! Get Mr. Melville to the hospital!"

"...Yes!"

Leander snapped out of it, started the car, and drove away from the Ayers family, heading to the hospital.

In the car, Katherine stopped insisting on getting out. She stretched her neck to check the road ahead. It was clear, so they should reach the hospital soon.

After checking the road, she turned to look at Alex. Seeing him still covering his eye, she felt uneasy and moved closer. "Um... Mr. Melville, let me see your eye."

Alex raised an eyebrow, squinting at her but moved his hand away.

Katherine leaned in to check, seeing the blood clot in his eye had expanded.

Her heart tightened.

Katherine furrowed her brows, her worried eyes trembling. "Does it hurt a lot?"

Alex replied coldly, "It hurts a lot."

It hurt a lot. What should she do?

Katherine looked around but found nothing for a cold compress.

Helpless, she thought for a moment. "Do you want me to blow on it?"

Alex paused, not saying a word, neither agreeing nor refusing.

Katherine took it as consent.

She leaned closer and carefully blew on his eye.

Alex let her, closing his eye. Her breath felt like a gentle massage, easing some of the pain.

Seeing Alex's furrowed brow gradually relax, Katherine felt encouraged and kept blowing.

Suddenly, Alex opened his left eye, and their gazes locked!

They were so close they could feel each other's breath.

Katherine blinked, feeling awkward. She quickly pulled back and sat properly in her seat.

"Um... if it still hurts, just hang in there. We should be at the hospital soon!"

Alex didn't say anything, just leaned back and watched her.

Katherine felt conflicted. She didn't want any more entanglements with Alex, but she was worried she might have hurt his eye. She anxiously picked at her hands.

Alex suddenly called out, "Katherine."

Thinking his eye was bothering him, Katherine quickly looked at him. "Yes, what's wrong? Does it still hurt a lot?"

Alex's eyes narrowed slightly. "What's your relationship with Frank?"

Katherine, who had been worrying about his eye, was stunned by the question.

"We're married, didn't I already tell you?" she answered.

Alex's sharp eyes were piercing. "Are you really married, or is it a fake marriage?"

Katherine was stunned again. Why would he ask that? Did he find out something?

Feeling guilty, she still gave a firm answer. "Of course, we're really married!"

She thought, 'Once you lie, you have to keep it up.'

Alex sneered. "Really? Then why can't I find your marriage registration in the public records?"

Katherine was at a loss for words.

"What? No words after being exposed?" Alex retorted.

Katherine snapped, "Alex, don't you think your behavior is excessive? What right do you have to investigate other people's privacy?"

Alex's expression was subtle and pressing. "I'm just curious."

Katherine furrowed her brows, glaring at him irritably. "Fine, I'll satisfy your curiosity! We got married abroad, so of course, you can't find the records here!"

Alex asked, "Which country?"

Katherine replied, "It's not convenient to disclose the specifics!"

Alex squinted his eyes again. "As far as I know, there are no recent records of you leaving Janetrick at any airport."

Katherine took a deep breath and improvised. "Because I took... took my husband's private jet, of course, you can't find any records at the airport!"

Alex furrowed his brows. "Do you love him?"

Katherine was speechless.

"Answer me," he pressed.

"Yes, I love him very much!" she replied.

Katherine was telling the truth. She had always loved Frank and Ambrosia.

But her love for Frank was not romantic love but a deep bond forged from their childhood, a love and dependence that combined family and friendship.

Hearing her say she loved someone else, Alex's eyes darkened. "Katherine, you better not be lying to me!"

Katherine cleared her throat guiltily. "Why would I lie to you? You are still in the mood to ask about my business. You should worry about your eye first!"

Alex didn't say anything else, giving her a cold glance before leaning back and closing his eyes to rest.

Ten minutes later, the car stopped.

Leander turned around and said, "Mr. Melville, we're at the hospital."
