Chapter 179 Take Responsibility for Your Actions
Joshua angrily commanded, "Katherine, get back here right now! First, deal with those curses at the front door, and then take responsibility for your actions. Find a way to admit your mistakes to the public and make sure you get their forgiveness. Don't drag our whole family down with you!"
Katherine listened, feeling utterly indifferent, and even found it somewhat amusing.
Just a moment ago, Sandra, someone she hadn't known for long, firmly believed in her and advised her to stay indoors and be mindful of her safety.
But her dear father Joshua couldn't wait to throw her to the wolves of the internet mob to clear his name.
The contrast was stark.
Since childhood, Joshua had always treated her this way.
Whenever something bad happened, he would blame, despise, and scold her without any regard for the facts.
He never once asked about the circumstances, never cared if she was wronged or mistreated.
Not even once.
When she was younger, Katherine often wondered why her father was so different from others. She couldn't feel any of the fatherly love her classmates wrote about in their essays.
But if Joshua was truly different from other fathers, that wasn't entirely accurate either. When he was with Sherry, he seemed like a loving father.
No matter what Sherry did wrong, Joshua would eventually forgive her and continue to love her as before.
But for her, it was different.
Now, she understood why Joshua was so indifferent and uncaring towards her. He had always known they weren't biologically related, so he had no fatherly love for her, only a bit of pity.
But if Joshua knew from the start that they weren't biologically related and didn't want to adopt her, why did he bring her home from the hospital and then neglect her, sending her to the countryside?
The more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.
Once the internet storm passed, she needed to investigate Joshua's past thoroughly.
Having received no response from Katherine, Joshua was already livid on the video call. "Katherine, are you mute? Didn't you hear what I said? Get back here right now and clean up your mess!"
Katherine snapped back to reality and replied calmly, "I heard you. But I'm busy right now, so I won't be coming back. I'll have someone deal with the curses. I promise your family won't receive any more of those strange things. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
Joshua was taken aback by her icy demeanor, feeling that his younger daughter's attitude had changed. He complained, "Katherine, what kind of attitude is that?"
Katherine lazily responded, "What's wrong with my attitude? Didn't I agree to handle the mess? What more do you want?"
Joshua was furious and shouted, "You insolent girl! You don't even call me 'Dad' anymore, and you dare address me so disrespectfully! How dare you?!"
"Dad, let me talk to her!" Sherry took the phone, glaring disdainfully at the camera with her heavily made-up face.
"Katherine, you jinx! Ever since you came to the city from the countryside, our family has had nothing but bad luck! Recently, you ruined my career, and now you've dragged me into your scandal, making me a target for online abuse. It's humiliating!''
She continued, ''Katherine, you better fix this mess as soon as possible and then get back to the countryside! Stop causing trouble for us in Janetrick! Do you hear me?"
Katherine chuckled, "Sherry, wasn't your career ruined by your own actions? And whether I stay in Janetrick or go back to the countryside is none of your business."
Sherry was livid and scoffed, "At a time like this, how can you still be so arrogant? No wonder everyone online calls you shameless; you deserve it!"
"I deserve it? Then you, who got dragged down with me, deserve it too?" snapped Katherine.
Sherry replied, "You..."
Lillian couldn't stand it anymore. She leaned into the camera and said, "Katherine, what have you become? Sherry's career was ruined because of you! She was supposed to be Kenny's new star, bringing glory to our family! But you sabotaged her opportunity!''
Lillian added, ''You even spread rumors that Sherry wasn't Joshua's child, causing family strife! Thankfully, Joshua gave us a chance to do a DNA test, proving that Sherry is indeed our biological daughter, and that you were lying! Now you're out there doing those deceitful things, ruining the reputation of our Galatea family. Katherine, what are you up to?"
Katherine smirked and said, "Deceitful? Lillian, isn't that your specialty? Didn't you use deceit to climb up in the family? And didn't you use deceit to get Sherry those opportunities from Kenny? But Kenny found out the truth, and you failed. How is that my fault? Besides, I don't have your talent for deceit; I can't take your title away."
Lillian's face turned pale and said, "You… what did you say?"
Why was Katherine so sharp today?!
Before, she would at least be somewhat polite in front of Joshua.
Sherry snatched the phone, fuming. "Katherine, how dare you talk about my mom like that! Who do you think you are?! I warn you, apologize to my mom right now, or else."
Katherine, annoyed by Sherry's loud voice, lazily rubbed her temples and then clicked the 'X' in the top right corner, ending the video call.
When Sherry tried to call back, Katherine ignored it.
She had no time for the family's nonsense; she had important matters to attend to.
Katherine opened the group chat and sent a message: [Frank, go deal with the curses at the family's door. Find a way to stop those extreme netizens from sending wreaths and other things.]
Frank didn't respond, but Ambrosia's message popped up: [Katherine, he's already out handling what you asked earlier.]
Katherine rubbed her temples, almost forgetting due to the family's commotion.
Then Katherine texted: [Ambrosia, then send someone else to do it!]
Ambrosia replied: [Got it, boss! I'll inform the entire city's curse industry not to take any orders for the family.]
She answered: [Good.]
Ambrosia went offline to handle the task.
Katherine also began cleaning up the internet mess surrounding her.
