Chapter 502 Get Out to the Countryside

Faced with Vincent's questioning, Alice and Scarlett both turned pale and stammered.

Alice said, "Dad, how could you think that? You arranged the exam. We never contacted the person who made the questions. How could we have stolen them?"

Scarlett nodded in agreement. "Grandpa, we definitely didn't cheat!" she exclaimed.

Vincent glared at them and sneered, "Really? You two didn't cheat? So, did they sneak into our home and steal the questions from my computer? Do you think I'm senile or that our security system is just for show?"

Alice's eyes blinked nervously, feeling extremely guilty. "Dad, why are you so sure someone cheated? Did Katherine say something to you?" she questioned

Vincent replied irritably, "If no one cheated, then why did Fern score perfectly the first time but struggle on the retake? The first time, she clearly had memorized the correct answers in advance! The teacher who created the questions sent a copy to my email before the exam. I reviewed it and found no issues, so I approved it. The only ones with the motive and opportunity to access my computer at home are you two. Who else could it be?"

Despite her guilt, Alice refused to admit it. She claimed, "Dad, we really didn't! You can accuse me, but don't accuse Scarlett."

Scarlett, with red-rimmed eyes, said aggrievedly, "Grandpa, my mom couldn't have leaked the questions to them. I think Fern just didn't perform well the second time."

Hellen frowned deeply, looking at her beloved granddaughter with mix of disappointment and concern. "Scarlett, if you admit your mistake now, we might think there's still hope for you. Don't be stubborn!" she urged.

Scarlett hesitated, wavering. If she did, her grandparents might not trust her as much as before, right? No, she couldn't lose their favor!

She insisted, "Grandma, I really didn't do anything."

Seeing Scarlett and Alice's stubborn refusal to admit their mistakes, Vincent lost all hope in them.

Vincent said with great dismay, "I thought raising you in the Mitchell family would make you more like us, but you're becoming more like Alice; hypocritical, pretentious, and greedy! There's no saving you!"

Scarlett tried to use her tears to gain her grandpa's sympathy. She cried out to him, "Grandpa."

Vincent, however, had no patience left. "Enough, both of you pack your things and move to the summer estate in the countryside. I don't want to see you!" he commanded, banishing them.

Alice was shocked. "Dad, you mean you want us to live in the countryside?" she questioned.

Vincent was unrelenting. "Yes! That's exactly what I mean. Pack your bags now, and I'll have someone take you there immediately!" he said impatiently.

Alice couldn't accept this outcome and nearly collapsed to the ground. "Why? Dad, are you really going to send us away just for Katherine, an outsider?" she remarked.

Vincent looked at her with disdain, and rebutted, "You have already corrupted Scarlett. I can't let Sunny be influenced by you too! Both of you go to the countryside, so Sunny won't be influenced by your behavior!"

Alice began to cry pitifully, "Dad! You can't do this to me! I'm Edwin's wife. How can you send me to live in the countryside? People will laugh at us."

Vincent was resolute and unmoved.

Hellen also agreed with the arrangement. Scarlett had already learned all of Alice's schemes, and Sunny was still an innocent child. They couldn't let Sunny become like Alice!

Seeing that pleading with Vincent was useless, Alice knelt and crawled to Edwin, who was sitting on the other sofa, and begged him, "Edwin, say something to defend us! You can't just watch Dad send us to the countryside!"

Edwin looked indifferent, his eyes downcast, and asked her in a flat tone, "Do you admit to what you two have done?"

Alice, with tearful eyes, looked evasive. "We really didn't do anything! How can you believe outsiders over us?" she claimed.

"Didn't do anything?" Edwin's eyebrows shot up sharply in anger. He remarked, "Wasn't it you who taught Scarlett to bring Camlia and Fern to slander Katherine?"

Alice hesitated before answering, "Yes, Scarlett brought them. But she believed their sob story and wanted to help them get justice! Besides, today's exam results might not be fair. I think Katherine might have tampered with it. She could have bribed the teacher."

Edwin's eyes filled with disgust. He rebutted, "That professor is an old friend of Dad's and only helped out as a favor. Do you think he is the type who needs money and could be bribed? The exam was live-streamed with media and cameras. Both sides had the same sets of questions. Fern didn't get any right on the retake, it was all caught on camera! How could Katherine have tampered with it? Did she use magic to erase Fern's knowledge?"

Alice was speechless, her face growing paler, yet she still acted as if she was greatly wronged. "Then it must be that mother and daughter deceived us, using our kindness to help them against Katherine! Edwin, this means we are also victims!" she claimed, insistently.

Edwin listened to her excuses, coldly removed her hand from his leg, and then patted the wrinkles she had caused, his actions dripping with disdain.

"Enough, stop pretending to be victims in front of me! The more you pretend, the more hopeless you seem! Dad's arrangement is good. Take Scarlett to the countryside and reflect on your actions!" Edwin scolded harshly.

Alice, with tears in her eyes, gritted her teeth and said unwillingly, "Edwin, no matter what, can you bear to see us suffer in the countryside? Besides, Scarlett has an adopted child now. Living in the countryside is very inconvenient for us!"

Edwin replied, "Dad is only sending you to the summer estate in the countryside. You've been there before; it has all the facilities and servants to take care of you. It's not an inconvenience. It's not like you're being sent to prison."
