Chapter 456 Why Would I Be Jealous
Katherine said, "Niece."
Frank raised an eyebrow and smirked, "Katherine, we grew up together. Since when did you have a niece? Must be Mr. Melville's niece, right? You really treat his family like your own!"
Katherine rolled her eyes, "Just don't mess with her. She's a good girl, not someone for you to play around with. Don't cause trouble."
Frank, a bit wary of Katherine, pouted, "Come on, Katherine! She's a good girl, and I'm not a good guy?"
Katherine knew Frank too well to fall for his act. She straightened up and started walking, "I'm outta here!"
Frank followed, "Wait up, Katherine! My car's on the other side. Let me give you a ride!"
Katherine waved him off without looking back, "No thanks, I'll grab a cab!"
Watching her walk away, Frank shrugged. She was always so low-key, not even owning a car!
His phone buzzed. It was a picture from Teresa showing lunch: a main dish, two sides, and a soup. "Boss, here's your lunch for today!"
Frank replied with a [drooling] emoji.
So, that girl was Alex's niece? How did she end up in Crescent?
Putting his phone away, he walked out from behind the truck and bumped into Alex, who was standing there with his hands in his pockets, staring at him.
Frank quickly composed himself and smiled, "Mr. Melville, here for an inspection?"
Katherine had just left the construction site when a black car pulled up beside her.
She turned to see Scarlett's innocent, doe-eyed face smiling at her from the back seat. She looked much more confident than she did at the hospital a few days ago.
"Katherine, what a coincidence!"
Katherine nodded, "Yeah, quite a coincidence."
Scarlett asked cheerfully, "Need a ride?"
Katherine wasn't interested, "Thanks, but no."
She kept walking, ignoring Scarlett.
But Scarlett persisted, telling the driver to follow Katherine slowly.
"Katherine, get in! I haven't seen you in days, and I kind of miss you!"
Katherine wasn't buying it. Scarlett had never been kind to her and wouldn't start now.
Katherine kept her eyes on the road, "We’re not going the same way."
Scarlett smiled warmly, "Even if we're not, I can still give you a ride! We're close enough; it's no big deal!"
"No need."
"Katherine, are you afraid of me?"
Katherine chuckled, "Why would I be?"
Scarlett kept her innocent smile, "You think I'll retaliate! Don't worry, Katherine. After what happened last time, even if I wanted to, I wouldn't do it now, and definitely not in my car! I'm not that dumb!"
Katherine glanced at her, "So, what do you want?"
Scarlett's eyes looked sincere, "I just want to chat, is that okay?"
Katherine knew Scarlett was faking it but got in the car anyway. Being followed was annoying, and she couldn't even get a cab.
Once inside, Katherine yawned, "I need to go back to Melville Manor. Can you give me a ride?"
Scarlett said apologetically, "I need to drop lunch off for Bernard at the company first. Can I take you to Melville Manor after?"
Katherine frowned but agreed, "Fine."
Scarlett patted the lunchbox beside her, smiling sweetly, "Bernard loves this food. He always finishes it."
Katherine barely reacted, "Really?"
She expected Scarlett to talk nonsense.
Seeing Katherine's indifferent demeanor, Scarlett's smile faltered but quickly brightened again, "Katherine, I've accepted Alex's situation now! But how did you get Bernard to change his opinion of you? Can you tell me?"
Katherine was indifferent, "Miss Mitchell, I'm puzzled by your question. Did Bernard change his opinion of me? It doesn't seem that way to me!"
Scarlett frowned, trying to keep her smile, "Katherine, stop playing dumb! Bernard clearly disliked you at first, but then he changed his attitude, didn't he?"
Katherine replied, "Bernard didn't like me much at first, but he didn't hate me either. The reason he later disliked me so much was because of the misunderstandings you created, wasn't it? Now that those are cleared up, he knows he misunderstood me, so his attitude improved a bit."
Scarlett's mouth twitched, and she let out a cold laugh, "It's not just a bit better! Bernard's treatment of you was ridiculously good! Katherine, do you and Bernard... have some other kind of relationship?"
Scarlett's probing made Katherine wary. Recently, Scarlett and Alice had been investigating her in the countryside. Although she had Frank handle it, there was no guarantee they wouldn't find something...
She couldn't let Alice and Scarlett discover her blood relationship with the Mitchell family yet; it would hinder her investigation into her mother's past.
After a few seconds, Katherine lifted her eyelids and laughed, "Miss Mitchell, are you jealous? Your brother, who always doted on you, showed kindness to another girl, and you can't accept it?"
Scarlett's sore spot was hit, and she gritted her teeth but smiled even more brightly, "Why would I be jealous? Bernard has many women around him; none can compare to me, his sister. I'm just curious; Bernard never liked your type before!"
Katherine smiled, "Then go ask Bernard! Ask him why he changed his attitude towards me? Bernard loves you so much; he'll definitely tell you!"
