Chapter 232 Katherine Interviews for Bernard's Executive Secretary

Families like the Mitchells place great importance their reputation.

The Mitchells are powerful and influential. No matter what happens within the family, they can keep it under wraps.

Even if something did leak, no media outlet would dare expose such a prominent family. The news would only circulate within a small circle and wouldn't be discussed publicly.

In this situation, if she didn't get personally involved with the Mitchells, it would be impossible to find out what really happened back then!

Katherine originally thought that since she and Joshua weren't related by blood, it would completely clear her mother of the false accusation of being a homewrecker!

But now, learning that she's rumored to be the product of an affair, she's really getting a headache!

She absolutely didn't believe Claire was the kind of woman the rumors suggested, so she must find out the truth and clear Claire's name, righting any wrongs and settling any scores!

Frank reminded her again, "Katherine, if you go back to Janetrick, aren't you afraid the Melvilles will find you? Reliable sources say Alex hasn't stopped looking for you!"

"The most dangerous place is the safest place. I can't give up investigating Claire's matter just because I'm afraid the Melvilles will find me!" she answered.

Mentioning Alex, Katherine couldn't help but think of the news she saw on the mall's TV earlier, her brows furrowing in irritation. She scoffed, "I don't owe him anything. What if they find me? I heard he's about to get engaged to Scarlett. If he's looking for me, it's probably just to send me an invitation!"

Hearing about Alex's engagement to Scarlett, Frank's expression shifted from surprise to anger and sarcasm.

To think he once believed Mr. Melville was a good match for Katherine, someone she could rely on for life!

Now, it seemed Mr. Melville was nothing special!
Katherine had only been gone a month, and he was already getting engaged to another woman?!

Luckily, Katherine wasn't the type to get overly emotional in relationships; she didn't fall too deeply!

Frank said, "Alright! Katherine, I'll go pack up now. Tomorrow morning, I'll have Ambrosia send a car to pick us up!"

"Okay," Katherine responded, leaning back on the sofa to rest.

It was best for Ambrosia to send a car to pick them up, avoiding the traces left by using public transportation.

Although she wasn't afraid of being found by the Melvilles, she still wanted to avoid any chance of running into them. Any involvement with the Melvilles would inevitably bring trouble!

A few days later, at the Mitchell Group's Human Resources Department, the interviewer was meticulously screening candidates for the president's secretary position.

Since it was for the executive secretary position, the candidate requirements were very high.
The HR department screened candidates for their education, demeanor, and appearance before they were personally vetted by Billy, the president's confidant.

Billy had interviewed over a dozen candidates screened by HR, and his expression grew increasingly disappointed. According to Mr. Mitchell's standards, none of these candidates were qualified!

Mr. Mitchell preferred people who were concise, efficient, and focused.

Most of these candidates were women, all dolled up and heavily made-up, clearly not here for the job but for Mr. Mitchell!

He couldn't hire someone who wouldn't focus on their work and was only interested in Mr. Mitchell.

Billy looked at the woman sitting across from him, who was flaunting her curves and acting coquettishly, and waved her off dismissively. "Not qualified. Next!"

A few seconds later, Katherine walked in and took a seat for the interview.

Billy, already aesthetically fatigued, rubbed his temples and asked absentmindedly, "Why do you want this job?"

Katherine replied, "Because the pay is good."
Compared to the previous grandiose answers, this one was quite straightforward!

Moreover, the applicant's voice sounded familiar. Billy felt he ahd heard it somewhere before.

Billy lifted his eyes, and his pupils instantly dilated. Was this Katherine?!

Katherine smiled at him, relaxed and natural, but not too warmly.

Billy snapped out of it, frowning as he remembered how disrespectful she had been to both Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Mitchell in the past, feeling a bit hostile.

"Ms. Galatea, what are you doing here?" he asked curtly.

Katherine replied, "I'm applying for a job!"

Billy's frown deepened. "You want to apply for Mr. Mitchell's executive secretary position?"

Katherine nodded affirmatively and said, "Yes!"

Billy had no good impression of Katherine and felt she was up to no good. He said coldly, "I'm sorry. Mr. Mitchell wouldn't want to see you as his executive secretary. You can leave now! Next!"

Katherine didn't move, maintaining her smile. "How do you know Mr. Mitchell doesn't want to see me as his secretary?"

Billy was about to speak, but Katherine quickly interjected, "Are you guessing?"

Billy was at a loss for words.

Katherine chuckled, "So, the Mitchell Group handles recruitment so carelessly? The interviewer decides the candidate's fate based on subjective guesses about the boss's preferences rather than evaluating the candidate's work abilities?"

Billy found Katherine difficult to deal with.

He said, "What do you want then?"

Katherine sat up straight and proper. "I don't want anything. Please take a serious look at my resume and evaluate whether I'm qualified for the job. If not, give me a reasonable explanation for my rejection."

Billy gritted his teeth, unable to refute her, and symbolically flipped through her resume. She had strong academic qualifications and had worked for Fortune 500 companies.

There were no issues with her education or work experience. He couldn't find any flaws in her resume!
So, Billy looked up and asked her again, "You said earlier, why do you want this job?"

Katherine kept her answer the same. "Because the pay is good!"

Billy sneered, "Your goal is really vulgar. Here at the Mitchell Group, we don't need someone as vulgar as you!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow and retorted unflinchingly, "Then, Sir, may I ask why you work for Mr. Mitchell at the Mitchell Group? Isn't it to earn a living? Are you working for free? You must really love Mr. Mitchell deeply, then!"

Billy, mocked like this, turned livid with anger. "Do you have any manners? What nonsense are you spouting here?"

Katherine smiled and remarked, "Sir, have you ever heard the saying ‘Life is a mirror’? What you give is what you get back! If I lack manners, it proves your manners aren't much better!"

"You!" Billy couldn't out-argue her and grew impatient, dismissing her outright. "Your personality isn't suitable for this job. You can leave now! Next candidate, please!"
Katherine was unfazed and stated, "There's no one else after me. I'm the last one! Mr. Interviewer, you have no other choice. If you keep being picky, you'll only find a suitable secretary for Mr. Mitchell in your next life. Just hire me!"

Billy stared at her, speechless. He really wanted to call security to escort this shameless woman out, but then he remembered she used to be Mrs. Melville. He couldn't disregard the Melville family's face.

After some thought, Billy got up and called Mr. Mitchell.

In the Mitchell Group President's Office, Bernard was staring at his computer, engrossed in reading emails, when he absentmindedly answered the phone.

After hearing Billy's report, his eyes narrowed as he asked, "Katherine is here for an interview?"

Billy responded, "Yes, she refuses to leave no matter what I say, as if she won't give up until she gets the offer! Mr. Mitchell, I've never seen such a thick-skinned applicant!"

"Bring her to my office," he ordered.

Billy replied, "Yes, Mr. Mitchell!"
