Chapter 374 Did Bernard Crazy?

Fiona shot Katherine a disgusted look and snapped, "Scarlett, don't waste your time with this crazy bitch! Let's go. I'll take you to my room to freshen up and change. We'll deal with her later!"

Scarlett nodded and followed Fiona upstairs. Halfway up, she turned and gave Katherine a dark, venomous look that screamed, "Game on!"

Katherine just smiled for a couple of seconds, clearly unbothered. She then called over two maids to clean up the spilled soup.

Anton came out of the kitchen, catching the tail end of the scene. He sighed and walked over to Katherine, concerned. "Mrs. Melville, that takeout's ruined. You shouldn't go hungry. I'll have the kitchen make you a simple sandwich."

Katherine, feeling hungry, nodded. "Sure, just a fried egg sandwich."

"Got it."

Anton was about to head to the kitchen when a servant rushed in. "Anton, Mr. Mitchell is here. He says he's here to see Mrs. Melville!"

Anton looked surprised. "Mr. Mitchell?"

The servant nodded. "Yes, Mr. Mitchell."

This puzzled Anton. The Melville and Mitchell families were usually at odds and rarely interacted, except for Scarlett, who was in love with Alex. But Bernard visiting personally? That was rare. And he said he was here to see Katherine?

Anton felt uneasy and asked Katherine, "Mr. Mitchell says he's here to see you. Do you want to meet him?"

Katherine nodded slightly. "Yes, let him in."

"Yes, ma'am." Anton signaled the servant to bring Bernard in.

Soon, Bernard arrived.

Katherine, sitting in the dining area, smiled faintly. "Mr. Mitchell, you got here fast!"

Bernard entered alone, tall and upright, but he didn't look as composed as usual. His expression was cautious. "I was nearby when I got your call, so I came right over."

"Oh, I see!" Katherine nodded, still smiling. "Something spilled in the living room, so it's being cleaned up. Shall we talk here? I hope you don't mind, Mr. Mitchell."

Bernard looked at her, his eyes filled with guilt. He shook his head. "I don't mind. We can talk anywhere."

Katherine smiled. "I thought someone as particular as Mr. Mitchell might not like sitting in a dining room with food smells. If you don't mind, please have a seat."

She lazily gestured for him to sit.

A servant pulled out a chair for Bernard. He said nothing and sat down.

Before they could start talking, a maid brought out a simple sandwich and placed it in front of Katherine.

Bernard frowned. "You haven't had breakfast yet?"

Katherine, hungry, took a bite of the sandwich and said, "It's a long story. Breakfast was a mess today. I'm just getting to eat now! I assume you've already had breakfast, so I won't offer you any."

Bernard didn't care about breakfast. He was more concerned about her health. "Given your condition, having breakfast this late and just a sandwich isn't enough."

Katherine shrugged. "Today’s an exception, and lunch is almost here."

Bernard checked his watch. "Lunch is still two hours away. Are you going to stay hungry until then?"

Katherine waved her sandwich. "I'm eating now, aren't I?"

Bernard frowned and looked at Anton. "Is this how the Melville family takes care of her?"

Anton, baffled by Bernard's sudden anger, explained politely, "Mr. Mitchell, it's not what you think. We get fresh food delivered daily. Breakfast was ready, but she couldn't eat it for some reason. Lunch ingredients haven't arrived yet, so we improvised."

Bernard looked dissatisfied with the sandwich. "Do you have oatmeal and milk?"

Anton replied, "We have those, but fresh vegetables and meats are delivered daily. We don't have extra in storage."

Bernard stood up. "If you have oatmeal and milk, bring them out. I need them."

Anton, stunned for a moment, realized what Bernard meant. "Alright, Mr. Mitchell, please wait a moment."

Katherine, nibbling on her sandwich, watched Bernard with curiosity. Was he going to cook in their kitchen?

Bernard took off his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and walked into the kitchen.

Anton, puzzled, instructed his subordinates to inform Alex about this unusual situation.

While Bernard was busy in the kitchen, Katherine leaned against the door, watching him like a spectator.

"Mr. Mitchell, I didn't expect someone of your status to be good at cooking!"

Bernard paused for a few seconds. "Not really. I just learned a few things my sister liked because she often pestered me to play house when we were kids."

Katherine, taken aback, chewed her sandwich, a hint of coldness in her eyes. She chuckled. "So today, thanks to Miss Mitchell, I get to taste your cooking!"

Bernard's hands paused, and he looked at her with a complex expression. The red veins in his eyes seemed to increase. "There's a lot of smoke. You should wait outside. I'll bring it to you when it's done."

Katherine shrugged. "Alright, thank you for the trouble!"

She turned and sat back in the dining room, lost in thought.

Had Bernard lost his mind? Or was he trying a softer approach after the hard one failed?

Was his goal still to help Scarlett get Alex?
