Chapter 534 I Admire You
Fiona stuck out her tongue, looking like she was about to hurl. She couldn't stand girls who faked it like that!
Teresa took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Alright, Mr. Perez. Should I book you a room at the Hillman Hotel nearby?"
Frank grinned, "Sure, that'd be awesome."
Teresa replied, "No biggie, just a small favor."
After saying that, Teresa headed out to make the reservation. Booking online meant downloading an app, and she was way too lazy for that. Plus, she needed some fresh air; otherwise, she might lose her cool.
Once Teresa left, Katherine grabbed the fruit knife Ambrosia had just used to peel an apple and chucked it at Frank!
Frank didn't even flinch, and the knife just grazed his ear, sticking into the wall.
The girl in his arms jumped in shock.
Fiona's eyes went wide too.
Frank, still holding the scared girl, smirked, "Katherine, do you really have to go this far? If that hit me, wouldn't it hurt you too?"
Katherine pinched the bridge of her nose, clearly fed up, "Get out! Stop bugging me!"
Frank shrugged, helped the girl in his arms stand up, and bowed to Katherine. "Alright, Katherine, we're outta here. Let Ambrosia keep you company. I just hope Ms. Harris has booked the room for us?"
After Frank led the frail-looking girl out, Fiona frowned and looked at Katherine, nervously asking, "Katherine, are you always this hot-headed? Do you throw knives when you're mad?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow and glanced at her, "What? You're just figuring this out now?"
Fiona, both arrogant and timid, pouted, "I've seen your fierceness before!"
After all, the first time they met, Katherine had dunked her head in a toilet.
Of course, it was because she had provoked Katherine first.
But throwing knives? Wasn't that a bit too much?
Katherine's gaze was indifferent, "Then why are you asking?"
Fiona, a bit uneasy, said, "You won't abuse Alex , will you?"
Katherine paused, then looked at her with a subtle expression. After a moment of silence, she spoke, "Do you think I could beat Alex?"
Fiona thought for a moment, "That's true! You definitely can't beat Alex! But Alex never hits women. What if you use that to your advantage and become violent with him?"
Katherine laughed, "If I use violence against him, it must be because he made a fundamental mistake and deserved it! But if he really made such a mistake, I wouldn't waste my energy hitting him. There's no need."
Fiona didn't quite get it, frowning, "What do you mean by 'no need'?"
Katherine smirked, "It means I'd give him his freedom. He can do whatever he wants, and I won't care. I'd leave."
Fiona was stunned, "You mean... if Alex messes up, you'd leave him and get a divorce?"
Katherine looked out the window, "I don't have time to waste on a man who can't control himself."
Fiona was puzzled, pouting, "But you busted your butt to marry Alex and get my grandparents' approval. Are you really gonna throw all that away? Most chicks would just suck it up! Being Mrs. Melville ain't something you can just walk into!"
Katherine chuckled, "You still think I stuck around the Melville family for the Mrs. Melville title? You think I need that?"
Fiona fell silent.
Before today, she did think Katherine cared about the title of Mrs. Melville. After all, she was a girl from the sticks who never had it easy. Marrying into the Melville family was her ticket to a better life.
Sure, she knew Katherine and Alex had feelings for each other. Having both love and money was the dream, right?
But now, she realized Katherine was more of a mystery than she thought. Knowing Ambrosia and Frank from the Crescent Group, and having those two big shots treat her with such respect.
It showed that Katherine didn't need a man for status, money, or power. Maybe she already had those things but kept it on the down-low.
And with Alex, she might really only care about him as a person, not all the other stuff.
Fiona pursed her lips, "Alright, even if you don't need those things, don't write him off so fast! Alex isn't the type to mess around, unlike your buddy Frank! Alex has always been straight-laced, and everyone knows that!"
Katherine had a faint smile on her lips, "Yeah, he's different, but people can change. No one can predict the future. I'm just saying, I won't hit him. If he does something that makes me wanna hit him, I won't waste my energy on him. It's that simple."
Fiona sighed, "I guess I've realized that maybe it's your chill attitude towards him that makes him so into you! Guys always want what they can't easily control. Turns out Alex is no different."
Katherine laughed softly, "Yeah, Alex is no different. Because he can't control me, he wants to conquer me. But that desire to conquer and interest will fade. How long we last depends on how long his interest in me lasts."
Fiona puffed out her cheeks, "Katherine, I think you're kinda boring. If he loses interest in you, you won't stay with him? Can't you try to make him interested in you again?"
Katherine was slightly taken aback, then smiled playfully, "Don't you want him to lose interest in me? Wouldn't it be better for him to find a sister-in-law with a good background?"
Fiona looked embarrassed, "Alright, alright! Stop roasting me. I know I was shallow before, always saying you had a poor background and came from the countryside! I was wrong! I get it now! And... and..."
Katherine raised an eyebrow, "And what?"
Fiona, usually all high and mighty, looked down in embarrassment. After a long pause, she finally spoke, "And now I think having a sister-in-law like you is pretty cool! I... I admire you now and plan to learn from you, not be as shallow as before!"
Katherine squinted her eyes slightly, then burst into laughter, "I think you're saying this because of Nathan, right?"
