Chapter 887 Wait For Me

As soon as she entered the house, Fiona rushed over, "Katherine, why are you guys back so late? I was worried sick!"

After speaking, she bent down and kissed Charles, George, and Edith one by one, "Did you pester Katherine to take you out to play again? Your Mommy works so hard all day, and you don't even think to be considerate!"

Edith replied, "Aunt Fiona, that's not true! Today, Mommy took us to the amusement park on her own!"

George echoed, "That's right, Aunt Fiona. Today, Mommy really wanted to reward us!"

Edith rolled her eyes at George, "Mommy was rewarding Charles. We just tagged along!"

George glared back, "I know! You don't have to say it!"

Edith ignored him.

Fiona was already used to Edith and George's bickering, so it didn't surprise her. Instead, she turned her curious gaze to Charles and rubbed his chubby cheeks, "Charles got a reward today? Tell me what happened. Did you win first place in something at preschool again?"

Charles blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed. Although Katherine said he did nothing wrong, he still felt that hitting someone in a fit of anger wasn't a good thing.

Thinking Charles was too shy to speak, Edith and George crowded in to explain to Fiona.

"Aunt Fiona, I know! Charles acted bravely today and saved a girl who was being bullied. Mommy praised him for it!"

"Aunt Fiona, Charles was amazing! He beat up the bully until he was black and blue!"

"What?" Fiona's eyebrows knitted together as she quickly checked Charles over. "You got into a fight? Charles, tell me if you're hurt!"

Charles shook his head, "No, I'm not hurt."

Fiona still wasn't reassured and continued to check Charles carefully, even rolling up his sleeves to look for any injuries.

Katherine reached out and patted Fiona's head, "It's okay, no need to check. He isn't hurt; I've already looked him over."

Hearing Katherine say this, Fiona finally felt a bit relieved and stood up with her hands on her hips, "Katherine, what exactly happened? Who did Charles get into a fight with? This is a big deal, and you didn't even tell me. I should go to the preschool and see which kid dared to mess with my nephew!"

Katherine was amused by Fiona's protective stance, "If you go, you'll end up fighting with the other kid's parents, making things even messier."

Fiona looked indignant, "What? Are the other parents really arrogant? Did they bully you, Katherine?"

Katherine shook her head calmly and coaxed Charles, George, and Edith to go inside first.

Fiona, however, was anxious and followed her, pressing, "Katherine, tell me! Did they bully you?"

Katherine said, "No. Do you think I'd let anyone bully me so easily?"

Fiona was taken aback and, after thinking it over, realized that Katherine, who was both eloquent and strong, wasn't the type to be easily bullied.

Back when she was influenced by Scarlett and made things difficult for Katherine, Katherine hadn't been polite to her either.

But she still wasn't reassured and frowned, pouting, "Even if you weren't bullied, I still want to meet those parents and that kid. The kid must have done something really excessive to push our well-behaved Charles to the point of hitting them."

Katherine patted her shoulder, "Alright! It's late, and you're tired. Go rest."

"I'm not tired! Katherine, I think you're the one who's tired! Taking Charles, George, and Edith to the amusement park by yourself must have been exhausting, keeping an eye on them and playing with them."

"It was okay, Fiona. They don't dare to run wild with me; they were pretty well-behaved."

"Katherine, next time something like this happens, you have to call me. I can help you watch them at the amusement park!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow and looked at Fiona's unhappy face, "You've grown a lot these past few days and become more considerate. Alright, I'll definitely call you next time!"

Fiona pouted, "It's not about being considerate; I just feel for you! With Alex not around, I want to help you out!"

Katherine smiled and pinched Fiona's cheek, "Alright, I get it. Next time something comes up, I'll definitely share it with you!"

Fiona knew Katherine was just humoring her and probably wouldn't call her next time. Katherine's greatest strength was her independence and determination, but it was also her greatest weakness, making people worry about her.

If only Alex were back, he was the only one who could pamper Katherine and let her shed some of the responsibilities she shouldn't have to bear alone.

"Katherine, what do you think Alex is doing right now?"

Fiona sighed with a worried look.

Katherine squinted her eyes, "It's so late; he should be sleeping by now!"

Fiona said, "How can he still sleep? These past three years, he's been carefree while all the pressure is on you!"

Katherine said, "Alright, you go to sleep! I need to get Charles, George, and Edith washed up and to bed."

Fiona finally nodded obediently and went upstairs with mixed feelings.

Katherine stood alone for a moment, glancing out the window at the moon.

'Is he asleep?' she wondered.

She took George, Edith, and Charles upstairs.

Katherine and Edith washed up, then she had Charles take George to wash up.

While blow-drying Edith's hair, Katherine saw her phone light up twice. She reached for it and saw it was an encrypted message, which could only be from Trevor.

'He's not asleep yet?'

Her heart skipped a beat as she decrypted the message to read its contents, which were brief: [Not home yet?]

For some reason, even though it was just text, Katherine felt that Trevor's tone wasn't very good.

She replied: [I'm home. Why aren't you asleep?]

A few seconds later, Trevor's message came through again: [Who did you go to the amusement park with today?]

Finally, he asked. Otherwise, he really wouldn't be able to sleep!

Katherine found this message quite baffling. Didn't she video-call him at the time? Why was he asking this?

She frowned and replied: [I went by myself.]

This time, it took a while before Trevor replied: [You went alone, with the kids?]

[What's wrong with that? Can't I?]

[You went to the amusement park alone with three kids. Could you handle it?]

Katherine couldn't help but laugh, texting: [What do you think? I've been managing just fine for the past three years!]

Late at night, Trevor lay in bed, looking at Katherine's reply, feeling a pang of sorrow.

After a long time, he finally replied: [I'm sorry. Wait for me.]

Katherine didn't reply because she was busy blow-drying the two boys' hair.
