Chapter 1032 Pretending to Sleep

According to what Virginia said, Bernard should be pursuing her now, but she didn't agree because of her acting career.

"Actually, I know all about the relationship between you two." When she said this, Virginia's face showed some guilt. She stared closely at Christina's expression. "Bernard's grandma has been urging him to get married for years, arranging many blind dates for him. He had no choice but to ask you to be his shield."

Christina suddenly looked up, staring at her in surprise. "What did you say?"

"Actually, I feel sorry for you. You're so young and already in a fake marriage with Bernard. Even though it's fake, you went through the formal procedures. When you get married for real next time, it will be your second marriage! I'm afraid your future boyfriend might mind that!"

Since signing the contract with Bernard, Christina had strictly adhered to its terms, never telling anyone about their contract marriage.

But while she was keeping the secret, Bernard had already told Virginia.

If Bernard could share such private matters, their relationship must be unusual.

But Bernard had clearly told her that he and Virginia were just ordinary friends, nothing more.

Who was telling the truth? Who was lying to her?

Christina was starting to get confused.

Noticing the change in her expression, Virginia's face showed a smug smile.

Actually, Bernard hadn't told her any of this. She was just testing, and the reaction she got was quite satisfying.

Throughout the meal, Christina was somewhat distracted.

Afterward, she couldn't even hear what Virginia was saying, only occasionally responding.

After the meal, Christina returned to the hotel, not in the mood to do anything, and just lay on the bed all night.

The next day, with no filming schedule, Christina went back to the Mitchell Mansion to get some clothes.

When she got home, she saw Hellen sitting in the living room drinking tea.

"Grandma," Christina weakly called out and sat down beside her. "I haven't seen you in a long time."

"Christina, you finally have time to come back."

Since Christina went out to film, she hadn't returned.

Although she occasionally called Hellen, it wasn't the same as being there in person.

"The filming schedule is quite tight. Today I just happened to have a day off to come back." Christina felt a bit embarrassed, "I'll come home more often to keep you company, Grandma."

Hellen looked at her face, feeling a bit puzzled. "Christina, did something happen?"

"Huh?" Christina was a bit surprised and shook her head blankly, "No, Grandma."

Hellen noticed something was off about her expression, thinking she might have been wronged while she was away, which was why she was in a bad mood. "Do you not like this job? If you don't like it, you don't have to go. Stay home with me."

Christina's bad mood was because of the meal with Virginia, but she couldn't tell Hellen about it. "No, Grandma, I quite like this job. It's very new to me, and I want to experience what it's like to be an actress."

Hearing her say this, Hellen felt a bit relieved. "That's good. But remember, the Mitchell family will always be your strongest support. If you encounter any problems, you can always come back and tell me. I'll stand up for you."

Hellen's words made Christina feel very warm inside.

Bernard had said similar things to her. But he didn't seem to follow through, while coming from Hellen, Christina believed it completely.

Hellen had always been sincere with her.

Finally back home, Christina spent almost all her time with Hellen.

Hellen was the first person in her life to treat her so well, and Christina wanted to do everything she could for her.

After dinner, she took Hellen back to her room, then went to her own room to sleep.

Having not been in this room for so long, Christina felt it was a bit unfamiliar.

This wasn't her room to begin with. She didn't belong here, and this place didn't belong to her.

Christina stood at the door in silence for a while, then took her clothes, showered, and lay down on the bed.

Even though she hadn't slept well the night before, Christina was very tired but couldn't fall asleep with her eyes closed.

She tossed and turned in bed for a long time, still unable to sleep, when she heard the sound of a car outside.

Bernard was back.

Christina was about to get up when she suddenly remembered what Virginia had said to her today.

A surge of anger suddenly flared up inside her. Christina gritted her teeth, lay back down on the bed, and closed her eyes.

When Bernard walked into the room, he saw Christina lying on the bed, motionless, seemingly asleep.

He showered and returned to the room, lying down on the bed very gently, afraid of disturbing the already sleeping Christina.

As soon as he lay down, Bernard heard very uneven breathing beside him.

From this breathing, it was clear that Christina wasn't asleep.

She was pretending to be asleep.

Bernard felt a bit displeased. What did this mean? Christina was clearly not asleep but was pretending. Did she not want to see him?

Bernard moved closer to Christina, lying very close to her.

Feeling Bernard's approach, Christina felt very uncomfortable, resisting his closeness and moving a bit away.

Her reaction made Bernard even more uncomfortable, his face darkening as he moved closer to her again.

Christina continued to move away, increasing the distance between them.

After several rounds of this back and forth, Christina finally fell off the bed.

"Ah!" Christina cried out in pain, unable to help but shout, "What are you doing?"

Bernard looked at her falling and teased her, "I didn't do anything. I just didn't know you could move so quickly even while asleep."

His eyes scanned her up and down, making sure she wasn't hurt before he felt relieved.

Christina sat on the floor, rubbing her butt, angrily saying,"I just woke up from the fall."

"Really?" Bernard coldly snorted, "I never knew that people could breathe so erratically while asleep. Should I take you to the hospital?"

Hearing this, Christina realized that he had known she was pretending to be asleep as soon as he lay down, and everything he did afterward was to tease her.

Christina sneered, standing up from the floor, "No matter how good I am at pretending, I'm not as good as you."

Bernard was already displeased with her pretending to be asleep and ignoring him. Now, hearing her talk to him like this, he got even angrier. "What do you mean?"
