Chapter 121 The Real Reason for the Runaway Horse
Katherine, amused and helpless, patted Teresa on the back, saying, "Alright, it's okay now!"
Sunny walked over with a stern face and asked seriously, "Katherine, are you alright?"
Katherine, still held tightly by Teresa, could only let her cry while looking up at Sunny with a smile. "I'm fine. Are you disappointed?"
Sunny frowned and asked, "Why would I be disappointed?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow and explained, "If I had died, you wouldn't have to deal with me for Scarlett, right?"
Sunny huffed in frustration and answered, "I never wanted you to die! I just..."
At that moment, the white horse Sugar, which had been lingering near the cliff, suddenly neighed excitedly and ran towards Katherine.
Everyone became alert!
Because it was this very horse that had thrown Katherine off earlier today for unknown reasons, and now it might attack her again.
Alex's eyes narrowed as he quickly stepped in front of Katherine, shielding both her and Teresa.
Hilton, Issac, and Jonathan also stepped forward, ready to support and block the frenzied horse together!
Sugar stopped nearby, seeing a line of people blocking its path, and began to pace back and forth anxiously, neighing in frustration!
Seeing this, Katherine gently pushed the tearful Teresa away and squeezed through the people in front of her, walking towards Sugar.
Alex grabbed her wrist and said sternly, "Don't mess around!"
Katherine remained calm and said, "Alex, it's okay. Let me go over. It won't hurt me."
Alex was worried, but seeing the determination in her eyes, he considered it for a moment and then followed her closely.
Katherine walked up to Sugar, raised her hand to stroke its face gently, and softly said, "I'm fine. Don't worry, and don't blame yourself."
Sugar's anxious demeanor calmed down, and it gently nuzzled Katherine as if apologizing, making sounds that resembled sobbing.
Katherine couldn't help but giggle as Sugar's nuzzling tickled her.
Seeing this, Alex's tense expression relaxed slightly, and a hint of unintentional tenderness flashed in his eyes.
Teresa wiped her tears and walked over, sniffling. "Katherine, after you fell, this horse stayed here the whole time. We couldn't get it to leave, and it wouldn't let us near it! I think it knows it did something wrong and is here to repent, right?"
Katherine turned to look at Teresa, her eyes holding a deep meaning, stating, "It's not Sugars' fault. Someone used sugar."
Teresa's eyes widened in confusion. "What? Did someone use it? Katherine, are you saying someone used this horse to harm you?"
By now, it was already dark.
Katherine remained silent. She turned her head and scanned the people present.
Finally, her gaze locked onto Hilton, and she inquired, "Hey, can I borrow your flashlight?"
Hilton looked around to make sure Katherine was talking to him, then walked over with a playful smile and twirled the flashlight. "Katherine, call me Hilton, and I'll lend it to you."
Without hesitation, she snatched the flashlight from Hilton's hand.
Hilton clicked his tongue and said, "No manners!"
Katherine ignored him and walked around to the side of the horse.
Seeing the usually talkative Hilton get shut down by Katherine, Alex's lips curled up slightly.
Katherine removed the saddle from Sugar and handed it to Alex. Then, using the flashlight, she inspected the horse's body carefully, searching for something.
As the flashlight shone, a small object suddenly reflected the light!
Katherine immediately moved the flashlight closer and saw that a diamond-studded earring was embedded in the horse's flesh.
And that earring was identical to the one that had pricked Sophie's foot earlier in the day!
Alex also saw the earring and narrowed his eyes.
Due to her allergy to silver, Katherine didn't touch the earring. She turned to the group and said calmly, "Everyone, take a look. This is the reason Sugar went wild today."
Everyone moved closer curiously. Their expressions shifted from surprise to realization.
Then, all eyes simultaneously turned to Sophie, who had been pretending to be concerned about Katherine. Their gazes were filled with suspicion and rejection.
Sunny furrowed his brows deeply, his face full of anger and disbelief. "Sophie, how could you do such a thing!"
Sophie feigned ignorance and asked, "Huh? What? What did I do? Sunny, what are you talking about? I don't understand!"
Sunny pointed to the earring on the horse and questioned, "Take a look! Why is the earring on Sugar identical to the one that pricked your foot this morning? Did you place it under Sugar's saddle when we weren't looking, causing the horse to panic and throw Katherine off the cliff?"
Sophie's face turned pale, and her lips trembled. "No, it wasn't me! Sunny, how could you level such accusations against me? Even if the earring is identical, it doesn't prove I put it there!"
Sunny's initial anger and disappointment morphed into revulsion as the individual he had regarded as a trusted friend and sister figure staunchly denied her transgressions.
"If it wasn't you, then who? I'm a man; I don't even have pierced ears. How could I have an earring on me?" Sunny snapped.
Sophie's expression grew increasingly livid, but she still refused to admit it. In her panic, she tried to deflect the blame, speaking without thinking, "Sunny, there were other women in the woods, too! Wasn't Teresa there as well?"
Teresa's eyes widened in anger. "Sophie, what do you mean? Are you saying I wanted to harm Katherine? That's ridiculous! I love her too much ever to hurt her!"
This sudden declaration of deep affection left Katherine at loss for words.
Because of Alex, Sophie had never dared to offend Teresa. She awkwardly explained, "Teresa, that's not what I meant. I just didn't want Sunny to jump to conclusions and blame me."
Teresa, hands on her hips, retorted, "If it's not you, then who? Katherine is allergic to silver and can't even touch it. She wouldn't do this to herself! So if it's not you, it must be me?"
Sophie was at a loss for words, then excused, "Teresa, no, I..."
Sophie's attempts to explain only made things worse.
Teresa, full of disdain and anger, said, "I didn't want to think you were this bad, but now you're trying to frame me! You're truly a vile woman!"
"Alex, you should stay away from such a malicious person! She's always plotting against your wife!" she added.
Alex's face was cold, and his gaze towards Sophie was filled with anger as if she had crossed a line.
Sophie was utterly panicked, shaking her head in terror, explaining, "Alex! Really, it wasn't me."
