Chapter 670 Who Else Besides You?

At the hospital.

After checking on Katherine, the doctor came out and said, "She passed out from some serious emotional stress. Luckily, you got her here in time, and both mom and baby are doing fine!"

Hearing this, Bernard and Sunny finally relaxed, letting out a big sigh of relief.

The doctor went on, "But her due date is coming up, and all this stress could trigger early labor. I recommend admitting her for observation and delivery."

Bernard had already thought about this. With everything Katherine had been through, he didn't feel right taking her home.

So, he told Billy, who was standing next to him, "Go get Katherine admitted."

Billy nodded and said, "Got it!"

As Billy walked off to handle the paperwork, Sunny frowned and looked at Bernard. "Bernard, how could Alex..."

Bernard cut her off, "Don't even start. Do you think Katherine hasn't been through enough?"

Realizing she hit a nerve, Sunny lowered her head and stayed quiet.

Bernard warned her again, "When we go in, don't mention Alex in front of Katherine!"

Sunny nodded. "Okay, I get it."

When Bernard and Sunny walked into the room, Katherine was already awake, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought.

Seeing her like this made Bernard feel uneasy. He walked over to the bed and gently asked, "Katherine, how are you feeling? Is anything still bothering you?"

Katherine shook her head, still staring at the ceiling. "I'm fine, nothing's wrong."

The more she acted like this, the more Bernard felt something was off. He reached out and gently ruffled her hair. "Katherine, I've had Billy arrange for you to stay in the hospital until the baby comes. I'll be here with you, so don't worry."

Katherine seemed to snap out of it a bit and looked at Bernard. "You don't have to do this. Focus on your work. I'll be fine here. Don't worry, I've calmed down. I won't do anything to risk the baby."

Hearing this, Bernard felt a bit more at ease. "Katherine, it's good you're thinking that way. Some things have happened, and we can't change them. The most important thing is to live well and protect those who are still with us, like your baby."

Katherine smiled. "Of course! I'll definitely protect my baby! As for Alex, he's not important anymore. Whether he's dead or alive, what does it matter? When he was alive, he only caused trouble for me and the baby. It's better that he's gone! Now, I don't have to worry about anyone trying to take my baby away, right?"

Bernard frowned. "Alright, since you understand this, don't think about it anymore. Get some rest."

Sunny wiped her tears with her arm and muttered unhappily, "Even if you broke up, you shouldn't say such cruel things! Alex was so good to you. How can you think his death is a good thing?"

Hearing this, Bernard shot her a cold look and sternly said, "You, get out!"

Feeling quite hurt and dissatisfied, Sunny angrily walked out.

Watching him leave, Bernard gently said, "Katherine, don't mind him. She doesn't understand anything."

Katherine nodded. "Brother, I suddenly want some cream puffs."

"Sure thing, I'll get someone to grab them for you right away." Bernard nodded, not thinking much of it at first. Then, it hit him, and he looked at Katherine in shock. "Wait, what did you just call me?"

Katherine looked at him calmly and repeated, "Brother."

Bernard was overwhelmed, his hands shaking. "Katherine, say it again. I need to hear it clearly!"

Katherine frowned a bit but obliged. "Brother, I want some cream puffs."

Bernard's eyes welled up with emotion. "Okay, I'll get them for you right away!"

Katherine nodded. "And I'm a bit thirsty too. Can I get some water?"

Bernard jumped up. "Of course, I'll get you some water right now!"

He looked around and realized the room was empty. Since they had just moved in, there was no water yet.

Bernard instinctively turned to ask Billy to fetch some water, but then remembered Billy was still handling the admission paperwork. "Katherine, hang tight! There's no water here. I'll have Sunny get some for you."

Katherine nodded obediently.

Bernard took the water jug outside the room, intending to ask Sunny to fetch some water. But Sunny was nowhere to be found!

Katherine was still thirsty.

Bernard glanced back at Katherine lying on the bed, feeling a bit uneasy. But remembering what she had just said, he felt she might have truly come to terms with things and wouldn't do anything rash.

So, he closed the door and quickly headed to the hospital's water room to get some water.

Just as he reached the water room door, Bernard ran into a familiar face!

"Mr. Bernard Mitchell, which room is Katherine in?"

Sophia was checking each room in the corridor. Seeing Bernard, she quickly ran over to ask.

Seeing this troublesome woman, Bernard warily said, "How did you know she was in the hospital?"

Sophia smiled and explained, "Didn't I visit Katherine this afternoon? After you kicked me out, I still thought I should talk to her about Alex. So, I went to your house again in the evening. But before I could knock, I saw your car speeding out! Then I asked your butler, and he told me Katherine wasn't home and had gone to the hospital. I figured she'd be brought to the nearest hospital, so I came to check! How is she now? Is Katherine okay?"

Hearing her words, Bernard narrowed his eyes and sneered, "Cut the act."

Sophia looked innocent. "Mr. Bernard Mitchell, what do you mean by 'cut the act'? What am I pretending?"

Bernard said coldly, "You don't know why Katherine was suddenly stressed and brought to the hospital? Didn't you come to our house this afternoon to stress her out? I've already asked the servants! They said Katherine found out about Alex from a flyer that blew into the yard. Sophia, do you think I'm an idiot? No one would ever distribute flyers near the Mitchell family estate unless they had a hidden agenda. And the Melville family wouldn't print flyers to publicize this incident! Who else could have made those flyers but you?"
