Chapter 1021 Drinking Her Water

Bernard picked up his cup and took a sip. "It didn't go bankrupt. Before it could, I stepped in and acquired it."

"Really?" Virginia's face lit up with excitement. "Does that mean we can still get some? Bernard, when can you take me to the factory to have a look?"

While they were chatting, Christina kept her head down, playing on her phone without saying a word.

She hadn't experienced these past events and couldn't join the conversation. Besides playing on her phone, she couldn't think of anything else to do.

It seemed that Virginia brought up this topic intentionally to create a distance between Christina and them.

She was trying to make Christina understand that she and Bernard had grown up together and were a perfect match.

As she played on her phone, a message from Ruben popped up on the screen, and Christina clicked on it.

Ruben: [I heard you signed on for Curtis's new movie. Congratulations.]

Her first reaction was to wonder how Ruben knew, but then she remembered that Curtis had chosen her after seeing the Rojas Group's advertisement, so Ruben probably knew too.

Christina replied: [Thanks. I should thank you, Ruben. Without the ad you shot, I wouldn't have gotten this role.]

Ruben: [It was your own talent that got you the role, not me. Just don't forget about me when you become a big star, okay?]

Christina: [Ruben, don't joke with me. I don't even know if I can do it. If I mess up, it's all over.]

Ruben: [Don't worry, you'll do great. I believe in you.]

Christina was still very uneasy about acting, and she didn't know who to talk to about her concerns.

Chatting with Ruben for a bit made her feel much better.

What she didn't know was that while they were chatting, Bernard was sitting next to her, staring at her with a cold look.

"What are you talking about?" Bernard couldn't hold back any longer. He reached out and took her phone from her hand. Seeing their chat history, his face darkened even more.

Christina felt uneasy. She would rather talk to Ruben on Facebook than talk to Bernard, who was sitting right in front of her.

"Give me back my phone." Christina reached out to take her phone back, but he dodged her.

Bernard locked the phone and put it aside. "Don't look at your phone during meals. Eat properly."

"I haven't replied yet." Christina thought it would be impolite not to reply to Ruben, who had helped her, so she wanted to get her phone back to reply first.

But Bernard's face looked very grim, making her feel intimidated.

"Alright, I'll eat first then!" she said, deciding it was best not to push her luck with Bernard looking so grim. If she insisted, he might get angry again.

She decided to eat properly first to calm him down and then get her phone back to reply later.

She didn't mention the phone again, and Bernard's expression softened a bit.

Their actions were particularly glaring to Virginia!

She hadn't expected Bernard to care so much about Christina's every move. Had they become this close already?

She had spent over a decade trying to get Bernard to be close to her, but Christina had managed it in such a short time.

Damn it, what did Christina have that she didn't?

"Bernard, I heard there's a nice restaurant near your company. Do you have time tomorrow night? Let's go try it together." Virginia smiled as she joined the conversation.

Bernard looked at Christina beside him and then shook his head. "I have a meeting at the company tomorrow. I need to handle it."

"What about the day after tomorrow? I'm off for the next few days." Virginia pouted. "You know my schedule is always packed. It's rare for me to have some time off."

Bernard originally wanted to refuse, but he hesitated when he remembered that Virginia's father had once saved him.

Seeing Bernard not answering, Virginia smiled brightly and deliberately glanced at Christina. "Bernard, I knew you were the best. I'll message you then."

Listening to her 'husband' and another woman discussing their date, Christina felt very uncomfortable.

But she had no right to say anything at this moment.

Seeing Christina's expression change, Virginia felt very pleased.

She had made Christina and Bernard seem so close, but in the end, she, Virginia, was the winner.

Virginia glanced at the water glass Bernard had just drunk from and suddenly had an idea.

"What's with the food today? It seems a bit salty." Virginia showed a pained expression and reached for Bernard's glass, taking a sip.

Her actions made Christina's eyes widen.

Bernard had just drunk from that glass in front of both of them. She couldn't believe Virginia hadn't seen it.

Virginia had picked up Bernard's glass and taken a sip herself. What was she doing?

Christina bit her lip, lowered her head, and let out a cold laugh.

Virginia was quite shameless, sharing a glass with a married man!

Bernard noticed what Christina had seen. He had wanted to stop Virginia, but before he could, she had already drunk the water.

Seeing Virginia drink the water, Bernard's eyes darkened. He stopped his hand in mid-air and then withdrew it.

Virginia pretended to realize she had drunk from Bernard's glass and put on a surprised expression. "Oh, I'm sorry. I think I took the wrong glass."

She put the glass back and looked apologetic. "Bernard, I'm sorry. You won't blame me, will you?"

Virginia's words put Bernard in a difficult position. If he said anything to blame her, it would make him seem petty.

Not knowing what to say, Bernard chose to say nothing. He kept a grim face and continued eating.

Virginia didn't get any benefit, but at least she wasn't blamed. She was in a good mood and called the waiter to bring another set of utensils, continuing to eat lunch with them.

Throughout the meal, Bernard didn't touch that glass again. Instead, after finishing the meal, he picked up the glass in front of Christina.

"Uh? That's mine..."

Before Christina could finish her sentence, Bernard had already drunk all the water in the glass.

"Let's go home."

After drinking the water, Bernard stood up.

Virginia watched as Bernard deliberately avoided the glass she had drunk from and chose Christina's glass instead, feeling full of jealousy.

What had Christina done to make Bernard like her so much?

The three of them left together. Christina was about to get into their car when Virginia, who had been silent, spoke again. "Oh no! I don't know where my agent went. I can't reach him. The set is quite far from here, and I don't know how to get back!"
