Chapter 423 The Gentle Alex

"Katherine, what are you talking about? My mom made that juice for you out of kindness. If you don't want it, fine, but why badmouth her?"

Scarlett quickly played dumb.

Katherine straightened up and laughed. "If your mom was so kind, why did you run to the bathroom to spit it out?"

Scarlett denied it. "I didn't spit it out. I just went to the bathroom!"

Katherine knew she wouldn't admit it. "Really? How about I suggest to your grandparents that they test the pomegranate juice?"

Scarlett panicked. "Katherine, stop! This is my house, and everyone here is my family. No one will believe you!"

Katherine smiled. "Wanna bet?"

Feeling guilty, Scarlett changed the subject. "Katherine, what do you want? Isn't taking Alex enough? Why are you trying to get close to my family?"

Katherine walked towards her casually. "First off, Alex was never yours, so I didn't steal him. And your family invited me, so I came."

Scarlett's eyes widened. "Alex is mine! If you hadn't shown up, he would have married me! You're just a homewrecker!"

Katherine scoffed. "I don't know how to be a homewrecker, nor would I want to be. Alice is the expert at that. She not only wrecked a home but also climbed up, didn't she?"

"You... bullshit!" Scarlett frowned, wondering how Katherine knew about her mom's past.

Just then, the servants outside started talking.

"Mr. Melville is here!"

Both girls looked towards the window and saw Alex driving into the yard. He got out of the car and walked towards the house.

Scarlett ran off to greet Alex, leaving Katherine to return to her seat.

As soon as he walked in, Scarlett greeted him excitedly. "Alex, you're here! Join us for dinner!"

Alex glanced at her before walking into the dining room, his eyes locking onto Katherine.

He walked over, nodded to the elders, and stood by Katherine's chair. He wiped a bit of oil from her mouth. "Had enough fun? It's time to go home."

Scarlett, feeling jealous, thought the woman being cared for by Alex should be her, not Katherine.

Katherine, used to Alex's care, didn't react. "I haven't finished eating yet. Can we leave after I finish?"

Alex frowned, not wanting to stay. "Eat at home?"

Vincent, sensing Alex was there to take someone away, scolded, "Alex, what's the rush? Didn't you hear Katherine say she wants to finish eating first?"

Alex's brow furrowed, and he glanced at Vincent. Out of respect for the elder, he held back.

Bernard, also respecting Katherine, spoke more politely to Alex, "Katherine hasn't finished eating. Let her finish, and you can sit and eat something too."

At Bernard's signal, the servants quickly brought over a chair.

Alex sat down but waved away the servants bringing tableware, indicating it wasn't necessary. He didn't eat but was willing to wait for Katherine to finish.

The Melvilles and the Mitchells didn't get along, and it was clear the Mitchells didn't welcome Alex. He didn't want to be there either; he was only there for Katherine.

Seeing the servants dismissed, Scarlett walked over and set a pair of utensils on the table. "Alex, you should eat something. You must be tired after a long day at work."

Alex glanced at her hand holding the utensils. "Thanks, but no."

At that moment, Katherine picked up a fried shrimp and fed it to Alex. "Try this. Their chef is pretty good."

Alex's cold demeanor immediately softened. He opened his mouth to eat and patted her head affectionately. "Alright, you eat. We'll go home when you're done."

Katherine nodded. "Okay!"

Scarlett's hand, holding the utensils, froze in place, her face turning pale.

Everyone at the table could see the difference between love and indifference.

Scarlett had always been obsessed with marrying Alex. Despite the historical feud between the two families, the Mitchells also felt Alex wasn't a good match. He was always cold, like an ancient iceberg, devoid of romance and tenderness.

Any girl who married him would essentially be in a loveless marriage.

Now everyone understood: Alex wasn't incapable of being gentle; he just hadn't met the right person.

Seeing Scarlett still standing there, Bernard frowned. He thought Scarlett could read the room. Now, he felt she had no sense of timing.

"Scarlett, why are you still standing there? Go back to your seat and eat."

Hearing Bernard's reprimand, Scarlett reluctantly clenched the utensils and returned to her seat.

Alice was shocked to see her prospective son-in-law being so tender and obedient to Katherine. She had doubted Scarlett's descriptions before, thinking Scarlett was exaggerating out of jealousy.

Seeing it with her own eyes today, she realized how impressive Katherine was. She had managed to turn Alex, a cold iron, into someone as gentle as water!

"Bernard, can I skip my homework today? I'll make it up tomorrow," Sunny suddenly asked Bernard.

Bernard, while calmly picking up food, sternly refused. "No. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today ."

Sunny, feeling helpless, put down his utensils and weakly stood up to go upstairs to continue his homework. However, he hadn't taken more than half a step when he suddenly collapsed, taking the chair down with him, making a loud noise!

"Sunny! What's wrong with you?"
