Chapter 542 Only the Wearer Knows Where the Shoe Pinches

Katherine waved her hand, "Alright, you don't need to say anything else. Get me a car for tomorrow morning, we'll head out at eight. And don't tell Sandra about this trip; I don't want her freaking out!"

Leander hesitated for a sec but didn't push back. He nodded, "Yes, Mrs. Melville!"

"Okay, you can go now," Katherine said.

"Yes," he replied.

After Leander left, Katherine leaned back in her chair and rubbed her temples. Man, she was beat!

She could've had Frank set up tomorrow's trip, but Frank was out of the country for some research and hadn't come back yet.

Ambrosia wasn't in Janetrick these past few days either. Not worth dragging her back just for this.

So, Leander was the best bet. Having someone from the Melville family set up her trip to the Mitchell family's Summer Villa would also show the Melville family's stance. It'd make the talks more legit. After all, Alex was Charles's legal guardian, not her.

Charles, that poor kid, was under Alice's watch. Who knew what kind of crap he was dealing with again? Hopefully, he's hanging in there.

Katherine gently stroked her belly, feeling like the baby inside was growing bit by bit. Maybe it was because she was gonna be a mom, her heart was all mushy, and she couldn't stand seeing kids suffer.

After chilling alone in the study for a bit, Katherine got up and walked out. She bumped into Nathan, who had just finished tutoring Fiona, and Fiona, who had come out to see him off.

Fiona, standing next to Nathan, looked totally different from her usual sassy self, all obedient and honest.

Nathan's eyes lit up when he saw her, "Katherine."

Katherine smiled and nodded, "Thanks for your hard work."

Nathan chuckled, "It's no biggie for me; I just sit and teach. Lots of folks would kill to work in such a nice place!"

Katherine kept her smile, "As long as you don't find Fiona a pain to teach."

Fiona, standing to the side, frowned, looking upset like Katherine had just trashed her in front of her 'idol'!

Nathan, with his good nature and patience, shook his head, "Fiona's basics are a bit shaky, but she's super eager to learn and making good progress."

Hearing her senior praise her, Fiona immediately forgot her beef with Katherine and blushed.

Katherine glanced at the smug Fiona and smiled.

It was only because Nathan was teaching her; if it were someone else, she wouldn't have settled down to study!

"Katherine, I heard from Fiona that you were in the hospital a few days ago. How are you? All good now?" Nathan's eyes were filled with concern as he looked at Katherine, like he was checking if she was still unwell.

Katherine shook her head lightly, "I'm good now. Thanks for asking. It's getting late; be careful on your way home. Fiona, have Anton get a car to take Nathan home."

Fiona arrogantly raised her chin, "I know! I would've done it even if you didn't say so!"

Katherine nodded, "That's good!" She turned and walked towards her room, planning to wash up and crash since there was nothing else to do.

"Katherine, I gotta tell you something!" Nathan suddenly called out to her back.

Katherine stopped and turned around.

Fiona was stunned, looking at her 'idol' and then at Katherine with a guarded expression.

Seeing that Katherine didn't respond, Nathan cautiously asked, "Is that cool?"

Katherine thought for a few seconds and then nodded, "Sure. Let's chat in the yard; it's stuffy in here, and we could use some fresh air."

Nathan nodded eagerly, "Okay!"

Then Katherine turned and walked downstairs with the two of them.

At the door, Nathan turned to Fiona and said, "Fiona, you can see me off here. Don't follow us; I need to talk to Katherine alone."

Even though Fiona was bummed, she didn't dare to argue with him and obediently nodded, "Alright!"

She pouted and watched as Nathan and Katherine walked out the door, then quickly ran to the floor-to-ceiling window to spy on them.

Fiona had heard at school that Nathan had a crush on Katherine. At first, she was pretty upset, but later, she figured since Katherine was already married to her brother, she wouldn't compete with her, so she didn't take Nathan's crush on Katherine seriously.

Now, it seemed that Nathan still hadn't let go of Katherine and seemed pretty hung up!

If it were anyone else, she would have tattled to her brother, but because it was Nathan, she was afraid her brother would send someone to deal with Nathan, so she decided to let it slide.

The Melville Manor's yard was huge and filled with all kinds of flowers and trees, looking beautiful under the moonlight.

Katherine looked up at the already-risen moon, lost in thought.

"It's a full moon!" Nathan also looked up and murmured.

Katherine snapped out of it and looked at him, "I almost forgot you were here. What do you want to say?"

Nathan frowned and hesitated before speaking, "I wanna ask you something."

Katherine nodded, "Sure, what is it? Go ahead."

Nathan looked at her with a hint of reluctance, "That guy, Fiona's brother, isn't he treating you well?"

Katherine's expression paused, "Why do you ask that?"

Nathan said, "Fiona mentioned that her brother has been on a business trip for several days and hasn't come back yet. Katherine, you were in the hospital these past few days, and as your husband, he was on a business trip. I think if a husband truly loves his wife, he shouldn't be away at such a time!"

Katherine was silent for a while, then smiled, "Thanks for your concern, but he's treating me quite well."

Nathan looked worried and said, "Katherine, the Melville family's good conditions, but if you don't feel love and happiness here, no amount of material wealth is worth staying for. You'll regret it later."

Katherine raised an eyebrow, "So, you think I'm staying here because of the Melville family's material conditions?"

Realizing he had misspoken, Nathan quickly said, "No, I just think you and Fiona's brother aren't a good match. He's nearly ten years older than you. you guys have nothing in common, different values, and he doesn't care about you! Why bother?"

Katherine smiled faintly, "Relationships are personal; only the person in it knows how it feels. I know what I'm doing, but thanks for the heads-up."
