Chapter 421 A Glass of Pomegranate Juice
"Come on, Ms. Galatea, try the pomegranate juice I made!"
Alice, all smiles, poured Katherine a glass and handed it over, eager for her to taste it.
Katherine looked at the red juice and smiled politely. "Thanks, but I can't drink anything cold right now."
Alice, not giving up, smiled back. "You're right! Cold drinks can upset our stomachs. My bad! I'll get you some room-temperature juice instead."
She signaled a servant to fetch the juice from the kitchen.
Just then, Sunny reached out. "Mom, I'll take the cold one. I love ice drinks!"
Alice‘s expression a bit off. What was Sunny up to now?
The juice had a lot of saffron. Who knew if it was safe for boys in large amounts?
Worried, Alice didn't want to risk it. Sunny was her hope for the Mitchell family's future!
"Sunny! Why are you fussing over juice? We have an important guest. You're old enough to start drinking a bit of alcohol with your dad and brother!"
Sunny wanted to drink alcohol but didn't dare.
He glanced at Bernard and knew the answer. "Mom, Bernard won't let me drink. I have homework later! Just give me the cold juice!"
Without Bernard's approval, Sunny wouldn't dare drink. Alice, feeling stuck, handed him the juice and whispered, "Don't drink too much cold stuff! You might get a stomach ache and delay your homework. Eat more food!"
Sunny felt annoyed. "Got it, got it!"
Katherine watched Alice's every move, understanding her intentions.
Soon, the servant brought the room-temperature juice. Alice poured some into a new glass for Katherine.
"Here, Ms. Galatea! This one's room temperature. Give it a try?"
Katherine squinted at the bright pomegranate juice, her expression unreadable.
Alice, uneasy about Katherine's silence, asked, "Ms. Galatea, don't you want to try it?"
Katherine stood up and took the juice with both hands. "How could I dislike it? Thanks for the effort!"
Alice felt relieved, a hint of triumph in her eyes. "No need to be so polite! I wasn't very nice to you earlier. Consider this juice my apology!"
Just as Katherine was about to drink, she paused at Alice's last words and put the glass down. "If Mrs. Alice Mitchell says it's an apology, then I dare not drink it!"
Seeing her goal so close, Alice stayed polite but was clearly anxious.
"Ms. Galatea, why wouldn't you drink it? If you don't, I'll think you haven't forgiven me!"
Katherine shook her head. "Of course, I forgive you!But it feels wrong for an elder to apologize to me. Accepting it would be disrespectful."
Alice cursed Katherine inwardly for being so dramatic but kept smiling warmly.
"Ms. Galatea, you're overthinking it! Let's just call it a simple offer of juice, okay?"
Katherine finally raised her glass. "Alright, if you put it that way, I'll drink it."
Alice nodded. "That's right! Go ahead, try it!"
Katherine brought the glass to her lips but paused again under Alice's eager gaze.
She looked at Scarlett, sitting diagonally across, smiling warmly. "Before I drink this juice, I want to thank Miss Mitchell!"
Scarlett, like her mother, was eagerly watching Katherine, hoping she'd drink it quickly.
Caught off guard, Scarlett laughed awkwardly. "Uh... Katherine, what do you want to thank me for?"
Alice frowned, hiding her impatience. Why was Katherine making such a fuss over a glass of juice?
The Mitchell family members watched Katherine, curious about what she had to say.
Bernard looked at Katherine, a bit confused.
As her brother, he knew about the grudges between Katherine and their half-sister Scarlett.
If Katherine could let bygones be bygones, he'd be grateful. But why was she suddenly thanking Scarlett?
Under everyone's gaze, Katherine spoke sincerely, "Thank you, Miss Mitchell, for showing me around this afternoon. You even left your child with the nanny to spend time with me."
Katherine's words put Scarlett in an awkward spot, making it hard for her to smile or not.
Wasn't Katherine implying Scarlett didn't care for her child even when she had the time?
Damn Katherine, setting her up like this?
Scarlett, not one to be outdone, smiled sweetly. "Katherine, you're too kind! You're my grandfather's savior and a special guest today. It's only right for me to set aside my matters to show you around. It's our family's way of hospitality!"
Katherine nodded and smiled, raising her glass. "Miss Mitchell, I toast to you, thanking you for your attention!"
Scarlett, not to be outdone, gracefully stood up with her glass of red wine. "No, Katherine, I should be the one to toast you. You're our honored guest, and we thank you for saving my grandfather!"
With that, Scarlett prepared to drink first, showing her 'sincerity' in front of everyone, hoping to prompt Katherine to drink the pomegranate juice.
